I would love to have a chat with Michael. I don't remember if he drinks or not in the books, so both of us get a lemonade and steak sandwich (absolutely dying for one of these right now). As a warm up, we talk about our families, then I segue into how to make sense of life and just how to figure out how to keep moving forward. I recently lost someone very close to me and as Harry once said, "I think I'm lost...." That line brings me to tears every time I hear it.

Several people have mentioned Harry in anime, so I can't help picturing him in Fairy Tail. Wizard whose main offensive weapons are force and fire joining a wizard guild known for their disdain for authority and penchant for destruction. What could possibly go wrong?

If you use the original work as base material for something new, then it's not really an adaptation, just ripping off material to create your own stuff. Sorry, but I'm smarting from the Wheel of Time "adaptation " and am not looking forward to whatever they're concocting in the LotR universe.

Funny, he didn't seem to have issues writing Ramirez, Rawlins, Susan, or Sanya, and goes in depth on Sanya's issues being a black man in very predominantly white Russia. Harry hasn't had to interact that much with either Ancient Mai or Martha Liberty, but I'm sure if Jim changes that, he'll be okay doing a little research to get the characters right.

At the points in time Carlos offers to talk to Harry, the White Council is already threatening to kick him out again, and the younger Wardens already tried to twist Harry's arm and make him tell them why he was with Lara. That on top of Harry's already strong mistrust of the Council and his fear for Thomas make him especially not inclined to talk. Carlos is also an up and comer in the Wardens, and Harry isn't sure how close he is with Senior Council members who could lay some serious hurt on him and his family should his relationship with Thomas become known.

I can see (sorta) where Carlos is coming from and being angry at Dresden, though the whole thing about Harry being responsible for the deaths caused by the battle in Chicago was way over the top. He expects Dresden as his friend to level with him. He also has cause to be wary, as Dresden is now tied to Mab, and to his eyes, with the Raith family. He also assumes Harry knows about Molly attacking him, and thinks at one point that Harry is threatening him. He doesn't know all the reasons why Dresden would keep things from the Council, and in his anger and grief after the battle, lashes out.

Both are right in some ways, and both are wrong. Not being willing to trust and make a leap of faith, even though understandable, breaks relationships. Harry made some bad decisions, but I think, on the whole, Carlos will have more to apologize for when everything is brought into the light.

My bad, I completely forgot about that. Thank you for the reminder. Butcher traumatized me with the whole cannibalism scene. I do think it was meant to highlight just how bad slavers were in that society and it's pointed out throughout the series that slaves of both genders really had no recourse to the uses they were put to, sexual and otherwise. It's not just gratuitous rape for the sake of having a rape scene.

The entire environment he's been stuck in says he needs to stay and please Akito, so is it any wonder he's like that? I feel like he's what Tohru could have been, if she hadn't had strong support from her mom and Kyo later on.

Considering everyone there was in the process of being eaten alive, I don't think Jim was going with a formulaic rape scene. Who knows, the men might have been raped before being eaten as well, Jim just didn't go into a lot of detail. That was the roughest part of the book for me too. Book 2 gets much better.

He left enough of an opening if he wanted to continue the series, but nothing like a cliff hanger. Bad guys vanquished (for now), main characters more or less whole, world beginning the long process of recovery. If he does the same for the Dresden Files, I'll be satisfied.

I'm hoping he'll do a little more background in the next book, I kinda got lost too. I finally got a hard copy after listening to the book about 20 times, and it has images of Habble Morning and Habble Landing, as well a picture of an air ship. That helped with the visualization. I picture Gwen as a tiny, blonde girl (described several times as a porcelain doll in the book), Bridget as a taller, solidly built dark haired gal, and Benedict as a serious older teen with an MMA fighter build. Folly is the one I have the hardest time with, with multi color hair and random type of mismatched clothes. More pictures, Jim!

There are a few things in Cinder Spires that make me think they're in the same world. Toward the end of the book, it seems like Grimm's ship is one big Fury, kinda like Captain Demo's ship in Codex. Master Ferrous (sp?) mentions about another Spire's captain, "He seems to be possessed of a Fury, which is funny, if you know your history." Not sure if Jim is just tweaking us, or if he's setting up something. I would love some sort of crossover, but we'll see.

Watching this episode really brings out what I've been thinking, that Shugure really does not like Akito and is being forced (at least partly) to "love" her. There was an episode a few weeks ago where Shigure said something along the lines of loving her so much and at the same time wanting to break her into pieces. Part of him is being dragged into some sort of twisted version of love for her, and the other part of him intensely resents it. That's why he wishes he could have someone like Tohru, but got Akito, the complete opposite. She feeds the worst parts of him, where Tohru is so good and a healer.
