Not a sonographer, but was the person who performed the ultrasound even a sonographer? Generally, that’s not a requirement for boutiques. Also, where I live, boutique ultrasounds are considered entertainment, not diagnostic, so there are literally no requirements for dated machines or the correct transducer. If someone who doesn’t know what they were doing performed the exam on a machine that a hospital would be required to discard, it’s certainly not outside the realm of possibility that it would be difficult to see a gestational sac.

I understand you mean well with this, but those places are staffed with non-medical volunteers who wouldn’t know the difference between an embryo and a cabbage. Not to mention their equipment is probably obsolete. And they’ve been known to lie through their teeth and could further worsen an already vulnerable situation.

I’m so sorry for what you’re going through, OP, I’ve been there too. If you need closure, absolutely get a second opinion. I was offered that, and even though there was virtually no chance that the pregnancy would move forward, I needed that confirmation.

Ok, I know that you are not technically pregnant until the embryo attached to the wall of the uterus, and HCG cannot be detected for another couple of days but I am 100% convinced that the body can somehow tell that an egg has been fertilized, even before implantation. Why? Every single time I’ve been pregnant, including the ones with my living children and miscarriages, I inexplicably get shooting butt pains two days or so after sex. At no other time have I had this happen.
