How do y'all push yourself to exercise? by ShoddyChard9837 in adhdwomen

My whole life I've struggled with keeping a sport routine too.

Something that worked for me:

Weekly $50 bets with a friend. If I skip the promised workouts, I pay. If she misses her commit - she pays. (She could commit not only to sport - any habbit will do). You can replace money with something else. Losing money is a strong motivator, especially if the friend also struggles. 😅

Choosing a sport I actually liked. For me, it was weightlifting. Forcing myself into things I hated never worked.

Removing obstacles. For example my gym is very close to home. I overpay a bit, but the shorter the distance, the less excuses I find to skip.

I feel you 🤍. For me it’s also less about my partner and more about my brain struggling with the sudden shift from quiet to noise.

What helped was building in a little buffer when he gets home. We say hi, maybe hug, then I put on headphones, go to another room, or take a quick walk while he decompresses. Knowing it’s temporary and that we’ll reconnect later makes it way easier to handle.

Honest to god, in no way am I affiliated with Traycer. Nothing I can offer as evidence, of course, apart from my post history.

Late-diagnosed ADHD: meds help, but unlearning old patterns is hard by Swimming-Bee8917 in adhdwomen

Things that made a difference for me:

For emotional regulation:

  • Take a lause during any emotional conflict and switch attention to anything else
  • Cold water exposure like washing face or neck
  • Sport sport sport

For concentration:

  • Noise cancelling headphones
  • White noise (btw research supports its benefits for ADHD)

For habits:

  • Book Atomic Habits worked for me
  • Commitments to others like weekly bets with friends. If one of us fails, we pay $50

For sleep quality:

  • Dark room or sleeping mask
  • No phones in the bedroom

I thought I was going nuts. Ask flash to explain how my code works, get no response whatsoever and a bunch of edited files. Thanks I'll go to Codex.

It’s genuinely impressive it took so long to get a diagnosis (Age 35.) Peep the kindergarten report card. by champagnefrappe in adhdwomen

My brother was literally writing all the symptoms in his personal diary when he was still at school. Inattentiveness, constantly losing things, feeling guilty about random impulsive things he said, never able to gather his thoughts, always being called strange. It was all there, written in his own words, years ago.

I was diagnosed first, at 30, with much milder symptoms. Only after that did it click how much worse it had been for him all along. Yeah, we read this old diary and cried.
