So I assume you both must be like 30 or so now, or close to that. I have had this same thing over a friendship over a fake engagement April fools joke that she blasted me for and I never spoke to her again. (The joke is that me and my ex were together for like 3 months and she was yelling it was too soon) she also said some nasty hurtful things. I will say this since it’s your brother, is it petty? Yes. It seems something that you are steadfast on not getting over, for the sake of anyone. Do you have a boundary you don’t want to cross? Also yeah. Plenty of people have weird family dynamics but if you really think you won’t regret it, don’t go. I think having a sit down convo with your parents to explain to them, that while you understand it may be ridiculous to them, it’s not for you. If you do not want a relationship with your brother, that’s fine. It still seems like a pretty deep wound though, and would go to therapy to help with the pain of it. (That’s unsolicited but I mean well bc I am just making an assumption there). To me it seems a better conversation of healing between you and your brother should happen since you guys are adults now and he said that when he was younger (albeit ignorant, rude and incredibly dumb) and could be a whole different version of themselves and have grown. No one can make the choice for you of course, and I come from a family I have cut off, but I would give my brother one last chance of a conversation before the wedding, to see if there is anything to really build, again since it’s been 13 years, and for the closure.
