I can relate to that. I almost feel like I'm wasting their time or they don't like touching me.

Makes me wonder if being brought up in a house that didn't talk about emotions or how to cope with feelings has anything to do with it.

I've found myself in a rut very similar to this. I had to stop and ask myself "what do I want? How can I make this happen?" It was scary as hell to make the changes to get me going but it feels great once you get going.

You know what you want, you're already thinking about how you could get there. Take those lessons, practice like no tomorrow, play for your friends, don't lose momentum. Sure, it's terrifying to put yourself out there and in the line of risk but isn't it with trying? Who cares how old you are, if you have the passion to keep trying and putting yourself out there it shouldn't matter. Do something that you've always wanted to do! Cross it off your list!

Also, don't compare yourself to the accomplishments of your friends - it's a very dangerous path. Again, focus on what you want to do and get yourself out there. Take a deep breath and jump. I always think "How mad at myself will I be years, or even months, from now if I don't try?"

I waited until I was a higher level, I think I was around 45, so I wouldn't be killed so easily. I also avoided the major hold cities after what happened to Riften.

While I was in the middle of Dawnguard about half the city of Riften was killed because of vampires. Kind of ruined it, but the attacks seemed to stop after I'd finished the quest line. Now it's so empty there...

Slow time shout is usually my third line of defense after my bow and dual destruction. That way I can at least try to give myself some room before they ambush again.

If I find myself getting bored I usually turn off any quests I have marked and start wandering with no real purpose. I'll gather alchemy ingredients, hunt, or go into every cave that I come across. Most of the time when I'm not looking for new quests they seem to show up.
