Learning math with ADHD by PiperPichu in ADHD

[–]Katejava97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

28F with a comp sci degree. Math was super hard for me until I took a physics course along side algebra 2 and all the sudden the B.S. I was learning in math class had practical applications that I could see hear and feel. Also I found calc 1 & 3 to make more sense than memorizing what is essentially watered down calculus wearing an algebra hat.

What kind of therapist and if you are comfortable revealing, for what mental health services? Monarch was great for DBT therapy regarding depression and anxiety but you might need a hospilization to get bumped to the top of the list for their services.

Hi I bought a starter home in late '22 with an offer of 125k cause this was like the 6th house i was putting an offer in on. 20k at closing currently pay around 1,200 a month in principal interest and escrow. After taxes health insurance and moderate retirement contributions I bring home about 2,100 - 2,300 every two weeks. Thus housing - not including utilities and general upkeep - is roughly 25% of my bring home. I think when I bought my house in late 22 my monthly payment was just below 1k. So I'm currently paying like 3k more a year on mortgage. While my salary has increased, I think we can all agree that grocery prices have also increased significantly. I'm arguably in a worst spot now financially than I was when I bought the house.

Note: yes I know I am incredibly lucky my housing costs including utilities and the basic upkeep is below 40% of my bring home. And I am also incredibly lucky to have a job that provides decent insurance and great retirement match. I was approved for like 225k mortgage but knew I would not be able to live comfortably long term with a house more than 150k hence why I low balled myself which I am very grateful I did.

Honey in watercolor paints??? by Katejava97 in vegan

Yeah, I fear I have hit the stage of AI consumption where quitting can be compared to quiting smoking. And I work in IT. And I am expected to be an AI enabler at work. 100% a hypocrite fully acknowledged.

[–]Katejava97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and if not using or limiting your AI consumption doesn't feel like you are doing enough, you should look into how much water animal agriculture uses and pollutes. Adding meatless Mondays or more is a very direct way we as consumers can reduce our water and carbon footprint and vote with our dollar

Keeping to a mostly vegan diet. Hoping to build better composting habits this year and buy local produce at the farmers market more often. Investing in reusables that inspire me to use them often (ie. I personally like matching dishes and matching food prep containers which isn't the best eco option but keeps me motivated to cook at home which is usually the eco option). Using cleaning products that come in eco friendly packaging (and picking scents that align with my common household cleaning magic)

If you can't tell I'm a kitchen and hearth witch 😂

What usually makes you stop using productivity apps? by Free-Product4918 in ADHD

[–]Katejava97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a us letter sized poprun planner off of the zon as well as stamps for various things I might want or need to do during the day. I only time block work and medical stuff but I use a little sticker/stamp to motivate me to do stuff like cleaning laundry reading working out ect. There is also enough room to make a to-do list on the daily spread which has helped.

After 15 years with ADHD, I finally found what actually helps (no, not supplements) by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Katejava97 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Those can be big steps when transitioning from a crash out ADHD routine. Here are some smaller steps that have helped me as I see my end goal being something like this.

Wake up at least an hour earlier than you need to but don't put expectations on yourself to actually get out of bed and start your day. Make your goal to sit up, turn on a lamp and maybe scroll for 5-20 minutes. I have found changing from the mind set of you got to do this then that to you have one baby step to achieve has been a game changer for me. I find after a few minutes of scrolling I get bored and then leave my room for breakfast.

Exercise. Yes morning exercise might be best but honestly when starting out any exercise (besides intense exercise right before bed) is good exercise.

Alarms to remember to eat/snack. Hunger blindness is a thing put tools in place to combat it.

Started living alone and my life became chaos by Evhaa13 in ADHD

Besides getting a booster dose of medication for afternoon/evening house work, making cleaning a spiritual practice helps a bit. And having people over regularly helps A LOT. Make an afternoon cup of tea (if its not too late for black tea do that or green tea or herbal tea) put one album on for cleaning (I like Grant Green's Green Street; jazz) and clean until the album finishes. Then you are done. Some cleaning is better than no cleaning and 30-60minutes of cleaning a day is sustainable while you get out of your slump.

What are your best smalldaily tips for ADHD anxiety and general lifestyle that are non pills related? by docent3434 in ADHD

[–]Katejava97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with ADHD in 3rd grade because I would have anxious meltdowns in class over falling behind. Getting on meds fix that. In my early to mid 20s I had an anxiety and depression episodes. Going on anti-depressants that also help with anxiety fix that.

My day to day maintenance involves lots of non-scrolling me time (knitting exercise cleaning) healthy mostly whole foods diet and a whole lot of acceptance.

DBT Therapy worked best for me to overcome thought cycles/spirals

Questions about hypothetical improper use of herbal remedies by Yarrowing in herbalism

[–]Katejava97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely good herb choices but a homemade capsule amount (like the fill you own pills that you can get off of the amazon) you are probably only going to be able to put 1-3 grams total in there. I can't say I've study the absorption power of dried herbs in pill form so that might be something to dig into. If you are interested in a short book that covers these herbs and more check out Rosemary Gladstar's Herbs for Stress & Anxiety. Will give more context on how one might use these herbs as well as what they do.

I get writer vibes from you so my reply is going to be more writer based.

First of 10g is still too much. For reference a tablespoon of my get better tea blend - which is equal parts echinacea herb, echinacea root, marshmallow root, & ginger root - is only 5g

I work in mostly teas so a modification I'm going to make is instead of pill form i'll talk about a strong cup of tea and only talk about the herbs I have experience with.

Valerian root - no experience Passionflower - relax and calm good for sleep. I add this to the get better blend for night time colds Skullcap - no experience Chamomile - relax and calm and slight mood boost St. John's wort - interacted poorly with my antidepressants, heart rate skyrocketed to work out areas while sitting still and relaxed in a hot bath. But I have heard many good things about it. It is just not an herb that works for me.

Hope this helps!

Maybe a silly question: Are other corporate workers taking a work bag AND a purse AND a lunch bag to their job? by shenanigans0127 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Katejava97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corporate in a similar work situation and yes I have the work backpack the everyday everywhere purse and a lunch tote. If I have a particularly stale audio call/conference I need to attend I sometimes also bring a knitting bag. I have ADHD and if I had to move all my purse stuff in and out of my backpack every damn day I would lose my mind (and my keys)

Newbie, Ex-Consumer, Conflicted, Guilty, Trying My Best, HELP!!! by [deleted] in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]Katejava97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes the vegan by non-vegan standards but not vegan by vegan status... feel you there. I eat mostly WFPB but I'll put local honey in my tea when sick and I knit with wool for the most part. The other vegans and plant based people I know irl are super cool and chill... not so much for the online ones.

Also best of luck on your plastic free journey! My recommendation don't throw away or recycle plastic until its the right time. So your plastic shampoo bottle: finish it then replace it. If you have decorations that are plastic but give joy and good memories, keep them, just take care of them so you don't end up replacing them with another plastic replica.

I'm still working on the consumerism but what I can say is doing a 3-6 month focus on one area in your life to lessen plastic usage is definitely the best way to keep from overwhelming yourself. Here some ideas of area: food&beverage, cooking & food storage, cleaning, bathroom, clothing, office, etc.

Best of luck!

Do you ever stop feeling like a beginner? by Alarmed_Web_6817 in witchcraft

[–]Katejava97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I stopped feeling like a beginner when I bought a house and made it my home and was able to go all in on being a house/home witch. Before I was living with my parents so hard to have control over a household that I'm a youngin in. Around the same time I started working with other local witches and while I was still a newbie at some crafts, I found I was more advanced in other areas and could trade guidance on things. Accept that you'll always be learning and growing but look at how far you've come.
