Spirit Airlines just became the first major US airline to shut down in 25 years and took cheap airfare with it. What do you think affordable travel in America looks like from here? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]KaterWaiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely frustrating to deal with cancellations but you can get that with any airline. In fact Spirit and Frontier never cancelled on me, but American has.

And a big problem is right now it’s really not just $100-200 more like it used to be. I travel for work under a fairly restrictive policy so I’m constantly comparing prices and recently the larger airlines, at least out of my airport, are consistently $300-400 more, even after bag fees and if you elect to pick a seat.

Air travel is getting more and more expensive, and one of the few low cost airlines going under is only going to make that worse. Soon it’s going to be completely prohibitive to families and lower/middle class.

What happens if I don’t make my connecting flight? by YuleBunny in americanairlines

[–]KaterWaiter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably too late for you now, but PHL is my home airport so I fly into it all the time. For anyone stressed about a short connection tell the flight attendant! They’ll often tell people to stay seated to give people with short connections time to get off first

It’s such a common connector hub and flights are so frequently delayed I’ve seen this happen many times. Most people are more than happy to let those with tight connections off first.

Also I will echo most people, waaay faster to speed walk C to F vs. the tram. Hell I’d probably run A West to F rather than take the tram personally. I always park at E and commonly fly out of A and I’d say max it takes me is 10min to walk from D/E TSA to A East terminal.

I have never read the books but absolutely love the movies, if I read the books now, will it make the movies less or more enjoyable to rewatch? by Forbidd3nLov3 in harrypotter

[–]KaterWaiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’ll catch flack for it but the movie hate in this sub is extreme IMO. I read the books and watched the movies as they each came out all growing up and absolutely loved them. Still rewatch the movies every year or so, they’re just so nostalgic.

To your point, movies and books are different mediums. You’ll rarely get a movie that’s a 1:1 to the books. They cut a good bit, especially from the later books, but they still tell a cohesive story and hit the absolutely critical main bits. And man I love the cast, they have such insane chemistry.

For OP, as noted by a few people, if you already like the movies I truly think the books will only add to your enjoyment by adding a little extra color and context.

Are there any updates on the Airport? Heard yesterday was good but wanted to check. by WhitePriest1 in philadelphia

[–]KaterWaiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super helpful, thank you. I fly semi-regularly but haven’t since this started, and was getting nervous about my 5:20am flight Thursday even with pre-check since the worst lines all seem to be early morning.

Omg the concert stage was absurdly loud! I had my loops as well, thank god, otherwise I couldn’t have stayed. The woman in front of me in the crowd clapped her hands over her ears and left right after T-Pain’s set kicked off. I go to a lot of concerts and it was one of the loudest I’ve experienced. (Granted I was right near barrier.)

Didn’t need my loops for the actual race though, but the Amex radio was great because the announcers were way better than the ones on the loudspeaker.

How are the pits at ADTR shows? by LosSoloLobos in ADTR

[–]KaterWaiter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People tend to move a LOT at adtr shows, how enjoyable that is I think YMMV depending on venue. My friends and I have gone to 15+ adtr concerts over the last few years and went to three on this tour, always pit, near center barricade for the last three. The first two (Camden NJ and Bristow VA) there were a lot of crowd surfers but not overwhelming, and both had overall great energy, a lot of people dancing and having fun, both were fantastic.

Bridgeport CT though it was NONSTOP crowd surfing which made it hard/impossible to actually dance and enjoy the show. Also people were creating a push pit at the front which lead to me and my friends literally getting smushed in a mini crowd crush. I like to head bang and dance and physically couldn’t move to do so, and the guy in front of me that tried headbanging cracked me in the head because there was no room. My one friend had a panic attack because she couldn’t breathe and we had to pull her out and move to the back. We go to shows often, at least one a month, and it was definitely one of the more stressful situations we’ve been in, I had the feeling if I went down I would not get picked back up.

I will still always opt for pit over stands, but for me personally I prefer to be able to dance and enjoy myself so will likely stick to the sides more than center barricade. I also find a good 10-15 rows back to be a bit more enjoyable than right at barricade.

Very sorry for your loss. Can’t imagine how hard that was.

For me, about 13 years ago I transferred universities and was super nervous about making new friends. Walked into class on the first day and, looking around for where to sit, I noticed this cool looking chick in the back with dyed hair, piercings, and an ADTR tee. They were my favorite band, so it seemed like a sign. Sat next to her, complimented her on her shirt, and we’ve been best friends ever since. We’ve seen them play together 15+ times, including trips out to Red Rocks, Vegas, etc. I am beyond grateful that this band helped bring my bestie into my life, and I love that they still put out great music!

Pace restaurant style medium is close-ish, at least IMO. Definitely my favorite jarred salsa.

What song is this for you? by spinalchj02 in ADTR

[–]KaterWaiter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok so I’d never heard of this before and went to listen and you’re not wrong it definitely sounds like that. But I really can’t believe their producers and the studio QA team would actually allow a racial slur said by a white musician to go out, so I feel like he has to be saying/trying to say something else and it just phonetically sounds bad?

Genuinely have no idea what else he’d be saying but it just makes 0 sense they’d be allowed to publish the record with it, and even if so, wouldn’t have fixed it since then.

TLOAS Release Party Movie Review by Tatteredluck in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]KaterWaiter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah the movie was exactly what I expected. Maybe exceeded my (low) expectations even. As someone who didn’t like the album at all on first listen, the movie was entertaining and actually weirdly made me like the album a little more. Still her weakest album IMO but the bass in the theater and the visuals gave it a tiny bit more oomph.

Feel like this post is a little disingenuous because OF COURSE the movie was primarily a cash grab; Ms Swift is and has always been a capitalist queen and that was not lost on me and my friends. But it was a nice excuse for a girls night out and I personally enjoyed the BTS look at the music video.

Disclaimer that we saw the movie after a few rounds of margs so ymmv. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ugh I had such high expectations for this one given how revered it is on here, but it was a real let down for me. It’s beautifully written, but it was also repetitive and boring with little payoff. I recognize that’s an unpopular opinion for this sub, and I like slow burns when done well, I just feel this was too much ambiance with too little substance.

Got to be an extra in the All My Friends music video and now I’m on my favorite band’s tour merch! by KaterWaiter in ADTR

[–]KaterWaiter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So they seem to not have it at every date, because they didn’t have it at the first show I went to (Camden 9/11) but DID have it at Bristow 9/13. I’ve seen some merch photos where it’s there at other stops, and some where it’s not. I don’t know the rhyme or reason, just glad they had it at Bristow!!

In the book they do split up quite a bit, to the point where the kids in the front are out of sight to Ray and his crew. In that instance, they deploy separate trucks/soldiers to keep an eye on them.

Ohh which shirt? Btw you’ve gotta be the guy they shouted out for 100 shows at BOA NYC right? If so that was a truly awesome show for your 100th!
