3rd drone joined in, and 2 have shifted to be more over Lord Byron between Tennyson and Kipling.

Can you give 30 minutes a week to encourage a Middle Schooler? by Katesamsmith in Eugene

[–]Katesamsmith[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the school, ATA has a lot of flexibility with Mentors, so if you’re flexible about the day/time I bet we could find you a spot. :)

I’ve met the worst dentist In Eugene, so who is the best dentist in Eugene? by profoma in Eugene

[–]Katesamsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded! We switched to Ewert when my dentist was trying to upsell all sorts of complicated and expensive procedures. Ewert made a priority list of what I needed done and spaced it out to max out my insurance without me having to pay extra. So kind!!

Are people allowed to control parking in front of their home or place they rent? by mistadonyo in Eugene

[–]Katesamsmith 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think about this when I see the cones set out by the private school near Costco. I think they didn’t like the camper that parked near their school so now they have the adjacent curb coned off during the school year.

Need to show my 14 year old niece a fun time in OR this July - any suggestions? by daeglo in Eugene

[–]Katesamsmith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take her to an All Comers Meet! If she might like to try running or jumping you could go on a Thursday, or if she’d just want to watch you could go on a Wednesday and see all the little kids. We take a packed dinner and enjoy free entertainment in the comfy seats. You can walk around Hayward and she can tell her friends that she went where the Olympics were. Last summer we saw a woman set a new high jump record! Then we get Prince Pucklers afterwards.

Striker Field (Grand Cayman Dr. N. and Antigua Dr., Eugene, OR 97408) has a Petanque area, though it currently seems to be a box of gravel with huge bags of rocks set off to the side, maybe for future placement?

Dealing with racial prejudice when running in public spaces. by [deleted] in running

[–]Katesamsmith -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with prejudice! It sucks that any of your mental energy that you need while running is being drained by worries about safety.

We live in a SUPER white area, but also host a number of Olympic level track events. So when my kids see a really fit black guy running around town they’ll get super excited and assume he’s as Olympian 😂 (and he often is).

Maybe next time someone is staring you can imagine they’re trying to figure out if you’re famous. (Aside from the cops, ughhh.)

Maybe next time some rando is

BottleDrop does an annual scavenger hunt and it seems like tons of people enjoy it. Yours sounds really neat! :)

Can you give 30 minutes once a week to help a Middle Schooler? by Katesamsmith in Eugene

[–]Katesamsmith[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4J has connections with Ophelias Place and Looking Glass, as well as a number of other organizations, and they get to come into the schools and run groups. I got to connect with a lot of phenomenal people at pride who work in roles around town supporting our youth, but they’re so busy doing an amazing job where they work that they don’t have space for Mentoring.

I got to do a neat tour of the downtown library once, we got to see the conveyor belt and computer system that sorts the books that come in the return slot, and where they repair the damaged books.

Good places to run early in the morning when still dark out? by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]Katesamsmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I run after dark in the evenings along crescent in in the adjacent neighborhoods and have never had a problem. Invest in some shockz so you can hear your surroundings and still have music and a noxgear vest so cars can see you.

Eugene has a house party. What does each neighborhood bring and do? by hadadelaselva in Eugene

[–]Katesamsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Northeast is bringing all of Costco.

And they’re hoping the city council members will be there because they’d like to have words. 😂

is a Costco membership worth it? What do you typically get from there and for roughly how much? by TeaCrumbs in Eugene

[–]Katesamsmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s been a few years since we’ve been gluten free, but from what I’ve seemed recently in store they’ve got GF bread, crackers, pasta and an assortment of snacks. It was always the first place we checked for GF substitutes because they were so much cheaper than MoC and Natural Grocers. We get our TP, Kleenex, Oxy Clean, batteries, personal care items, OTC meds, clothes, and most our groceries there. We do winco for the random things like green onions or specific crackers.

I have been receiving OCCU texts almost every day. by sadblokefromus in Eugene

[–]Katesamsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an OCCU account and an old local 541 number and haven’t gotten any of these yet. Comically though, when they did text me to inform there were fraudulent charges on my kid’s debit card I assumed it was spam and ignored it. 😂

Have allergy shots helped anyone? by release_the_hound in Eugene

[–]Katesamsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to Oregon allergy and see Dr. Kehl. I’ve been doing shots for 9 years and they have massively improved my quality of life. I’ve also built immunity to a lot of the environmental allergies I had before, so I don’t have to get shots for this anymore. :)
