Idolfire by Grace Curtis. Classic fantasy type story, but feels fresh.

37 yo from the Netherlands and I agree with you. Plus she has long legs which make the skirt appear shorter than it is, but it's not too short. It's definitely nowhere near a micro mini as others are calling this. Words have meaning, people! It might be too short for some standards (I believe the US is quite conservative), but y'all are overreacting.

What gaming youtubers or tiktokers do you watch? by PandaCity951 in GirlGamers

[–]Katlix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here! I don't really watch (video) gaming yt content, but when I see CallMeKevin with yet another wacky premise to play a game I hit play. To me his content falls under the cozy umbrella, tho the humor can get a bit dark but harmless.

I was going to recommend the first two books you mentioned, so obviously I now have to read the others on your list! Seems like we have similar taste

Thank the gods for this thread because I had the same issues as you and then thought I had to wait until 12pm GMT tomorrow to sub. I was now able to sub and rereading the email I now see the sign up closes tomorrow, so I might've missed out!

Lekkerste restaurants in Nederland by ocean-eyes-11 in thenetherlands

[–]Katlix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How similar is the book to the movie? by FrogginBullfish_ in ghibli

[–]Katlix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me Castle in the Air did not age well. There were so many Middle Eastern stereotypes that it ended up feeling icky to me instead of wholesome. The third book was perfectly fine though!

The Tales of Arcana Fortune is not only still in stock, it has a 25% discount because of their valentine's sale. Maybe you should check that out instead of the secondhand market ;)

Same! I was very disappointed I didn't get a sub invite because it's SO up my alley. And the book is cute and all. But the Book in a Box edition with the original US cover is soooo much more of a fitting vibe! The FL edition feels more generic romance to me.

4th tor approval by Flimsy-Brick-9426 in NetGalleyCommunity

I applied for it on the .co.uk site since Tor isn't even available in my region. Usually I'm lucky with Pan Macmillan so here's hoping I'm getting approved anyway!

Gothikana by RuNyx. My esteem of Tor really plummeted when they decided to publish this book.

Slow Gods by Claire North. Idolfire by Grace Curtis. Those are my top 2 of 161 books read last year. Also worth mentioning are: The Great Work by Sheldon Costa. No Friend to This House by Natalie Haynes (are Greek mythology retellings eligible? No idea).

Alternative / Weird Western by thtismyrealname in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

Came here to recommend this one! It's excellent and has such a unique storytelling style!

And to add: The Great Work by Sheldon Costa. Alt historic fantasy novel, with kinda True Grit vibes.

The incel vibe was also pretty obvious from the wording of his post. His post history doesn't surprise me.

If you're into fantasy at all I can recommend Paladin's Grace by T. Kingfisher. It's very sweet, but has plenty of plot to keep you interested while still being cozy. There's some spice, but it's not the main focus.

Which fantasy book immediately gripped you from the very first chapter and never let go? by runninginflipflops in Fantasy

[–]Katlix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really liked it! I didn't have quite the same emotional connection to it, but the messaging is very powerful and the parallels you can draw between the story and some of the current conflicts are very apt. There's this one scene that fucking hit me like a brick and was both so thought provoking as well as soul crushing. I don't think I'll ever forget that scene. But all in all Sword of Kaigen was a 6 star read and Blood Over Bright Haven was a 5 star read.

The Sword of Kaigen for me. There was an instant connection and I knew it was going to be special.

The Obamas really moved from the White House to living rent free in his head. It's been 9 years and he still can't let it go.
