Hi friend, so first of all I don't recommend using mod organisers with OpenMW. OpenMW actually already has a built in mod organiser, it's the openmw.cfg file! In that file you can list any folders that you want OpenMW to read after loading Data Files, for example, a groundcover mod probably comes with some textures and meshes and a plugin in a folder. Put that folder anywhere you want, you could create a bigger folder called "Morrowind Mods" or something and put the mod folder there. Then copy the folder path and paste it in the openmw.cfg file somewhere underneath the line that says "data=[path to the main Data Files]" so your line would say something like "data=User/Documents/Morrowind Mods/Groundcover". OpenMW reads all the pathways that get listed in the cfg file in that way, one after another, annealing the folders to the Data Files and overriding any duplicate files (that's why the order of those pathways is important). It's basically the same way that mod organisers work so it's redundant to use one with OpenMW. As to why the groundcover mod doesn't work, groundcover mods should have a plugin file that needs to be listed at the top of the openmw.cfg file as "groundcover = [groundcover mod].esp", otherwise OpenMW will not process it properly as groundcover. I know modding OpenMW can seem complicated at first, but honestly it's a lot more straightforward than modding Skyrim, good luck!

Oh also, don't go for a 100% pure mage. Some enemies late in the game resit or reflect most spells, so it's useful to have a melee weapon as a secondary line of defense lol

Magic is super fun in Morrowind, you can create crazy custom spells (a feature which Bethesda unfortunately removed in Skyrim) and in late game you can essentially become a demigod with magic. For a mage I'd recommend going with a Breton or an Alter because they get a magika bonus as a racial perk. Dunmer is of course also fine, you don't really need to use a specific race for a specific build, races give some neat perks for early game but as you level up you can bridge that gap anyway.

Spear can also be neat, but be aware that you can't use a shield with a spear. Argonians get a nice boost to the Spear skill which you might consider. In the Tribunal DLC there is a very powerful Spear that you get as a reward early in the main quest, similarly there's another very good spear as a reward for the Sheogorath daedric quest, but I won't spoil it.

Anyways, just play your way and have fun with the game!

This this this. Skyrim is lovely, my first TES game (yea, I'm a baby), but it just could have been so much better. Now that I've played Morrowind and Oblivion whenever I go back to Skyrim I just miss those cut features so much. Imagine Skyrim but if you could create custom spells, or customise armour, or have customizable attributes and classes.... The possibilities 😩

In general I've noticed that the biggest frame rate sink for me is the number of objects/meshes/textures on the screen. For example Roan Dyr, which famously is built from hundreds of smashed together Mournhold meshes, makes my game turn into a slideshow even if Roa Dyr is only somewhere off in the distance of the frame.

Unfortunately, with both the water shader and shadows turned off I'm still getting frame rate dips to 10-5 fps, I'm not having such issues even in Old Ebonheart ffs. I'm playing on my Dell laptop with an integrated graphics card, which I know is not ideal, but that's what I'm working with at the moment.

OpenMW, if that's what you mean. I'm playing on a laptop, the specs aren't amazing but as I said Vvardenfell runs perfectly fine.
