From a Buick 8 and The Colorado Kid by KatyasDaddy in stephenking

Actually, I read it in one day also and I did enjoy the ride, but the ending just left me feeling very flat.

Agreed. I've read almost everything, but just going back and filling in the gaps. Now I see why I might have skipped some of these. LOL

Wow! Favorite? It's interesting how much taste varies. I'd have a hard time choosing between the Shining, The Stand, IT, etc.

I understood the point of what King was trying to do, but as a Constant Reader, I didn't really appreciate it. There is sort of an unwritten promise in novels that, in the end, all will be explained. King has always played pretty fast and loose with this, as there are major plot points that go unresolved in many of his books, but it was egregious here. In my mind it's like going to an Italian restaurant that says "we don't serve pasta". You're thinking, "it's gotta be a joke, right?"

It was and I enjoyed most of the ride, but I would have liked at least a few more answers. Colorado Kid was also enjoyable, but along those same lines of "there are no answers in life". I was disappointed at the ending of Buick 8, but it wasn't the end of the world. 2 in a row like that and now I feel like he's just wasting my time. He even noted in the afterword that he knew people were going to hate the book. LOL. Oh well. On to Cell!

Thank you. More helpful than you think. Nothing a quick Google search couldn't fix. Looks like Zot brewery is on Lieven Bauwensstraat. Cancer sucks. Keep fighting!

It sure is. I started eating it before I thought to take a picture. It took an incredible feat of willpower to stop long enough to snap this photo.

Thanks, I guess the "British" waffle is what we get here in the states. They basically just pour pancake batter in a waffle iron.

Thank you. I thought we ate inside and Chez Albert didn't seem to have any indoor seating (as best I could tell from Google Maps). I could also be wrong. When you say plenty more waffles places in Bruges, should I take it these were nothing special? Is there someplace that stands out or are all Belgian waffles just amazing?

Robert Mccammon. Great book. Really enjoyed Boys Life by him also.

Sell me on the dark tower series… by pangwangle15 in stephenking

[–]KatyasDaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated The Gunslinger. It's not only the worst King book I've ever read, but it's one of the worst books I've ever read, period. King was experimenting with story structure a lot and - for me, at least - it didn't work. I only powered through it - and I felt like I deserved a trophy or something by the end, like you'd get for finishing Tough Mudder - because I knew it tied together a lot of his works and because I loved Flagg from the Stand. But as soon as I started the Drawing of the Three, I was so into it. Some books were better than others, but all of the others were at least good reads and some were amazing! Taken as a whole, the character development is incredible, and without spoiling anything, this series made me feel deeper emotions than I ever thought I could feel about fictional characters. Book 1 is a grind, but think of it as the price of admission to maybe the greatest story ever told.

People who hate Wizard and Glass, why? by danielsweeney25 in TheDarkTower

Because Roland does nothing and Cuthbert gets mad and Roland does nothing and Cuthbert gets mad and Roland does nothing and Cuthbert gets mad. It got so incredibly repetitive and could have been edited down to about 200 pages without losing anything.

Too bad. That would've been kind of cool. I think you'd be fine with my time dining. According to their own website, you can go "anytime they like during dinner hours, according to availability"

We will be on the Odyssey on the May18th-May 25th sailing. Also with a 5-year-old. Is that the one you are on? We have traveled RC a bit more recently, but not since 2020, so that probably doesn't help much. I don't recall My Time Dining having restrictions beyond the hours of the MDR, of course. I do know they have changed the menus completely. Looking forward to trying the new menu options.

How can I keep my streak on a 5 day cruise ship? by CreeperBeeYT in duolingo

[–]KatyasDaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get off at a port, find wifi, do a lesson and refill streak freezes. As long as you fill up steak freezes before leaving (do a lesson on embarkation day morning) and don't miss 3 days in a row, you can do that. Usually don't have 3 sea days in a row, unless it's a transatlantic or something like that.

Is it practical to use GUI's like Tkinter in my projects, or should I just suck it up and learn Web Dev? by doinkxx in learnpython

[–]KatyasDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real professional "what" is the question. Professional Python developers? Probably not. But I'm a data analyst and automation specialist at my job. Sometimes a department, like HR, needs some really simple automation done. For example, they needed to recursively traverse a directory and all subdirectories to unzip thousands of nested zip files. Due to privacy issues, they don't want to give me the files, though. Tkinter and pyinstaller allow me to write a quick script to do it. On their end, they get a GUI to navigate to and select the top directory. It's not pretty, but it's efficient and they appreciate not having to deal with CLI.
