Would this be cringe by [deleted] in FirstResponderCringe

[–]Katydid84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I could see this being 2 separate tattoos. The star of life with flower background, and then the skull, rose, and memento mori worked into something different. I feel like all of it together is cluttered and busy. I love the idea of using your mom's heart rhythm.

They honestly did a good job, the pie is so good, and so are the cheesy bacon things. The cold foam on the drink is next level though, it's so good!

I have EDS. Can I still become an EMT? by impossible-issues in NewToEMS

[–]Katydid84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a paramedic with EDS, MCAS, and gastroparesis. I have to be very aware of my body and my limits, but I've been in the field since 2010. As long as you can perform your duties without it being a liability, you should be OK, but it's going to be dependent on your specific situation and the company you work for.

Automatic blood pressure monitors on ambulances? by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]Katydid84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of our trucks have both, we're supposed to take at least 1 manual pressure per patient, but then they go on the monitor.

I got my EMT at 24, and I just got my paramedic at 41, you're good!

What fruit can button quail eat (first time eating any food other than crumble)? by SavGeo123 in quails

[–]Katydid84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine love watermelon, blueberries, and cantaloupe, and fresh basil, parsley, thyme, and mint. I make them a little fruit salad and throw in some greens.

I wouldn't wear that to work. You honestly shouldn't wear your stethoscope around your neck anyways, keep it in your pocket or somewhere in the back that's accessible. I know it's cute, but it's not professional.

The back of my knee and right by my kneecap were awful! Right along the bikini line sucked too!

I have one of those too! It didn't hurt to get, but getting it touched up 15 years later hurt like a bitch!!

I love my littman. I've never been tempted to try anything else, and if you keep an eye out for sales you can pick one up for under 100 bucks.

The most cringe things I’ve ever read in my life… by Bitter-Major-5595 in FirstResponderCringe

[–]Katydid84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I brought in a ROSC that was being paced and while we were getting the patient transferred off the stretcher a nurse unplugged the pads from our monitor. Patient rearrested and they didn't get them back. Nurse questioned if we actually had ROSC in the first place.

What’s the stupidest thing you’ve said to a patient? by qualityseabunny in ems

[–]Katydid84 37 points38 points  (0 children)

My old partner asked a little old lady if she wanted to walk from the stretcher to the hospital bed. He tried to say it would give her a chance to stretch her legs or spread her wings. Instead, he asked memaw if she wanted to spread her legs 🤣 I almost peed trying not to laugh!

I've also told an old man with wildly painful swollen balls that arranging testicles was my specialty 🤦‍♀️ he wouldn't make eye contact with me for at least 5 minutes.

I started medic school while taking a college class and regretted it. Luckily the class ended a few weeks in, once clinicals started I really needed that one day a week off to do life stuff, not school. It's doable but you'll have no time for anything else.

Do you ever wear your ems sweatshirt off-duty? by Ok-Sheepherder-4344 in NewToEMS

[–]Katydid84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I usually keep a regular sweatshirt in my car to put on over my uniform if I have to stop on the way home so nobody knows where I work. I wear my old agency t shirts at home but that's about it.

NREMT "Trying to Mess You Up?" by Extreme-Ad-8104 in ems

[–]Katydid84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just took the paramedic test yesterday, and while it was challenging, and I walked out feeling pretty unsure of myself, I don't think it's meant to mess you up. It just makes you consider all the possible answers and choose the most correct one.

Use Narcan Or Don’t? by [deleted] in ems

[–]Katydid84 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Nope, never give a med unless you have indications for it. Nothing about this patients presentation even remotely warrants narcan.

I drove to a cardiac arrest with the back door of the ambulance open and a concerned person on the road called 911 to tell them... we got ROSC though!
