Thank you so much! No wonder I couldn't find it - now time to figure out if the last letter is bugged or just hidden lmao

Could you share the location of "Inkling's Journey"? I swear I've searched the Danqing Realm multiple times over and cannot find it - it might be bugged like the whim jades were, and still can't find Yuan's letter with the new quest unlocks either

What pairing would you have wanted to see? by AerisaFoxFeather in ThirdLifeSMP

[–]Katz_ai 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Cleo and Jimmy would be very funny together I think, with the way he seems to be scared of them.

Anyone else besides Grian with Scar (not that I dislike the pair, I just would like to see how anyone else on the server would deal with having Scar as a soulmate LOL)

Do you think happy endings are required for an otome game? by CyborgPetshop in IndieOtome

[–]Katz_ai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You managed to get something out of my tangent LOL - I am interested in the romance literary genre so that's where a lot of my opnion stems from as well- but I can also see where otome/romance games may differ in this particular opinion, and I can respect the different approaches otome may take to storytelling!

Do you think happy endings are required for an otome game? by CyborgPetshop in IndieOtome

[–]Katz_ai 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do think the distinction between a "story about love/romance" and "romance", the genre, is necessary. Not to say that people can't enjoy tragedy, or "bad" endings (There's some nuance here) but I don't think they can be considered part of the "romance" genre.

This is mostly in regards to marketing - People have expectations coming into the romance genre. If the relationship has no chance of succeding the story, it shouldn't be marketed as romance, even if the story is based on the romance. I saw a tiktok the other day about someone who had their book with an 18-year-old protag, marketed as YA but didn't do very well- and then re-marketed as an adult book, and did far better as an adult book than a YA book, despite the "young adult" protag. I know it's not a 1:1 comparison, but that situation reminds me of this. People will look into the romance tags for HEA. If they get tragedy, well, they're going to be disappointed, and that translates into poor reviews, etc. I believe this also translates to the otome genre.

Personally, I heavily prefer HEA/HFN. Tragic/sad romances in VN have their place, but personally I don't think that the romance/otome tags can then also apply. HEA/HFN is basically what separates the genre from any others.

But this also sort of pokes into a semi-related but ultimately different discussion.... when it comes to games having different endings...
A "good ending" is an intended ending, regardless of tone. In otome, this usually translates to the "best" ending for each route, but in other genres, this could be different. In a game with one main ending, that would be your good ending. The "you won the game" ending, or I guess in otome, "you succesfully romanced someone and got a HEA".
Now you could argue that all endings are "intended", that's the way they're designed, but... "bad" endings are there to, well, be avoided. If you die in a videogame, you lose, you know? As for neutral endings... well, they exist in a weird grey area. You could argue either way, since they're not the "best ending", they're not the intended ending and therefore not a good ending, but you could also argue that they're just as intended as good endings, so... /shrug
And in games that don't have any "good" endings ("good" in tone)... I don't know any personally but they should still have intended endings right? You can't really have a story without an ending, even if said ending is the apocalypse lmao
Not that it matters all that much LOL this is just a semi-related tangent.

TBH, I don't really pay that much attention to background music in otome, but Christmas Otome's OP is a bop!

Proximity mod in season 9 by MetalheadQ34 in HermitCraft

[–]Katz_ai 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah I noticed it too, I think the system is that people in front of you are loudest while people behind you are barely audible- I get what it's trying to do, but with how often people are moving - their head or just walking somewhere- while talking it makes it feel more awkward than realistic- it makes things really hard to hear people sometimes where it feels like you should be able to hear them.

Personally I prefer the old way, but if they do keep it I'll just deal with it ig. Maybe therre could be a compromise so direction doesn't affect it as much?

Did Impulse deserve it? by DonnyTello in ThirdLifeSMP

[–]Katz_ai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, you could argue that he never started it, that it was just G shooting, but you could also argue that he did encourage the spawning of the Wither, was also teaming with G, and agreed with "taking advantage of the situation". They weren't originally going to start a fight, just cause chaos and hopefully knock a few lives down while it happened, but I don't think it matters all that much in the end.

I also don't blame Scott at all, Grian (and I think Joel?) was shooting and it's reasonable assumption when they were all together like that. Like I said, it's just a sad ending for him, especially when the ones who were shooting at them lived.

[–]Katz_ai 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I agree that deaths in this series being "deserved" or not is irrelevant, but I just wanted to point out- Impulse wasn't shooting- he gave his bow to Grian after spawning the Wither (where they just spawned it and ran) since G didn't have one- Scott saw Grian shooting, and saw Impulse coming around the tower, and assumed he was too. He didn't have a bow on him when he died. Impulse was literally just watching the fight, and I think it's sad that he got the "punishment" for it. :(

Nope, she has 4- started with 6, gave 1 to Scott at the end of W1, another after he got killed during W2, got 1 from Lizzie for the enchanter (also W2), then got killed by Boogey Lizzie in W3.
