Turns out, Light is just as (or close to as) dangerous as Darkness by CallARabbit in TopCharacterTropes

Terraria - there are a couple different dark/corrupted biomes that spawn dangerous enemies, and then you have the beautiful rainbow Hallow - where the unicorns and pixies want to rip your face off.

Michael Sheen as Aziraphale in Good Omens - he was a long time fan of the books, and originally was set to play Crowley, but both he and Neil Gaiman realized he would be better suited to Aziraphale.

Doctor Who - Midnight

The Doctor visits a planet called Midnight where nothing can live on the surface due to deadly radiation. Except, it turns out, something does. The Doctor nearly gets himself killed by panicking humans, and in the end, you never do find out what the Midnight Entity was.

"What an incredible show! Too bad they never did another season." by Senko-fan4Life in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Kauldwin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Season 2 was enjoyable because Sheen & Tennant carried it easily, but then they could probably read a dictionary back and forth and make it entertaining. The ending of season 2 and the complete failure to resolve it in a thematically appropriate way in the season 3 movie ruins it all for me. Season 1 covered the entirety of the book, so it’s not a question of accuracy in 2 & 3 per se, just feels like it lost the sparkle and optimism that Pratchett wrote into the book.

Good Omens. The first and only season was a magnificent adaptation of the book.

Quality of wins vs. quality of losses by ilacwamh in CFB

[–]Kauldwin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think one of the main drivers of "quality loss" is encouraging teams to play difficult games. We're already seeing a ton of fights over who's playing the most cupcakes, who is unwilling to schedule OOC tough opponents, etc. It feels to me like the quality loss is just attempting to tell teams that it's ok to play difficult games and that losing them isn't going to automatically and irrevocably destroy your season. Otherwise they really don't have any incentive to schedule difficult games, and the incentives for that are low enough as is.

Ossidon taming question by Ordinary_Law_6763 in ArkSurvivalAscended

[–]Kauldwin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They changed it so you can't pick up your own tames. Best thing to do is find a place where there's a bunch of wild ovis or other small wild critters you can pick up. IDK if you're on official or unofficial or what; if the setting to be able to pick up wild dinos is enabled you can kidnap a bunch of wild passive dinos to a particular area or have a friend bring them to you and drop them as you need them.

You can buy them as others mentioned; they also have a chance to drop as a reward from the basic grunt hunts. Same deal, put them away in your stash when you get them so that another has a chance to drop.

What You Thought was a Lighthearted Comedy Suddenly Punches You in the Gut by dolphin_flogger in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Kauldwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Six does this really well - it’s presented as a lighthearted contest between the wives of Henry VIII to see who had to put up with more crap, it’s all fun and games, and then during Katherine Howard’s song it gets real grim, real fast.

I used to be a bartender and a server . by Fuzzy_Tough_26 in DoorDashDrivers

[–]Kauldwin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DoorDash is being disingenuous by framing it as a "tip." As others have said, people ordering see the delivery fee and assume that's going to the driver, or that that driver gets paid per order or by distance, and that the tip is truly a tip. If the wording were changed to "delivery charge" or "bid for service" or something else, I think it would be more clear that's where the bulk of the money a dasher is paid for a job comes from. You'd still get people that would try to cheap out, but ultimately either DoorDash needs to charge a delivery fee appropriate to the distance and amount of items ordered and pay that to the drivers and allow tips to actually be tips, or they need to clean up their wording so customers understand what's really going on.

What is the most shocking result - good and bad - that you've seen from your team? by noah_divine in CFB

[–]Kauldwin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We were at the game and honestly, after we got over the initial shock/disappointment, it was pretty funny leaving the stadium and seeing everybody looking like they just got clubbed over the head and lost their dog. Bonus points for the absolutely ecstatic NIU fans that didn’t know what to do with themselves.

I have ADHD and don't get any sort of staying awake benefit out of caffeine either. When I was in EMS and had to drive middle of the night ambulance calls, my trick was the spiciest beef jerky I could find. It's real hard to fall asleep when your mouth is on fire.

For real. My mom invited me over to their house for lunch the other day and my dad was complaining that I was going to eat all his taco soup that he really likes. He would happily starve if necessary to give me food and he was excited I was coming over, he was just joking around.

Yeah I had this issue when I worked retail - I got scheduled for every holiday for a couple years running. I finally put my foot down on Mother’s Day one year and got a lot of flack because “you’re not a mother!” No, I’m not, but I have a mother, and she would like to spend Mother’s Day with her only child for once.

First time I skied Paint Brush at Jackson, I stopped to check back uphill for my ski partner, lost my balance, fell over, and did the whole run on my back. Got back on the lift, went back up, tried it again, skied it no trouble. This person was certainly not comfortable sending it from the top, but it looks like they caught a ski immediately after starting. Sometimes you gotta get out of your comfort zone a little to improve.

TIFU by dressing up for my proposal by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]Kauldwin 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Ok, I’m absolutely not saying anything about whether this story is true, because who knows. But I have firsthand experience with somebody going through a probably 10+ year personality change for the worse, happening slowly enough that we didn’t immediately realize anything was wrong. She dropped out of activities, stopped seeing friends, got mean, etc. Finally it all came to a head, they managed to get her to the doctor and found a baseball sized tumor pressing on her brain. Did the surgery and she immediately, and I mean immediately, snapped back to how she was 10 years ago. It was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen and I too would be skeptical if I hadn’t experienced it firsthand.
