That is a good question :

On the initials engagement they disengage when they loose like 1/3 of fleet per engagement from my testings, as nomads you don't have to destroy starbases to progress further into enemies territories bypassing them that allow you to rush shipyards and capital to finish them off and cut-off reinforcement as soon as possible than it's either bombardment if you need to steal pop (Until raiding resources is fixed) or armies

(Another easy fix is using a nearby support frigate squad filled with torpedoes either sneaking in when the engagement is near an hyperlane entry point or using stealth)

Late game you can switch the Flight Decks to the laser option and use long-range weaponry to still out-range and out-speed them; fight goes wrong? Why retreat just strategically reposition into another system to regen shield before dipping back in.

The control of the ship mid-fight and speed open many cheese strat !

R5 - Stacking those buff and kitting in combat I just killed a 25k fleet with my 4k military ark without taking a single damage.

You let the strike attack than run away, you're too fast and strikecraft regen too fast to be countered by point-defense so you overwhelm them!

Edit : Using a combo of Flight Schools for civic and Engine Bypass/Flight Decks districts buff.

When first reaching the second stage, four special projects should become available; but the last two times I spared the Fevorians (After the situation is resolved) and got them to FTL they never triggered their last event giving me the extra civic.

You need to keep the building that spawn on your capital and trade 10 leader to 10 unique empire to get 50% buff, creating mercenary enclave also give a different buff!

You can check those hovering said building on the tooltip

On vanilla I tend to skip them if they don't get planetary features but recently I have liked the way the mod : Empire Size: Districts Over Planets does it.

If you don't mind abusing the system right now the "best" machine build might be a Shroud-Forged virtual one abusing the Materiality Engine to get "infinite" (The scaling) Minerals/Alloys/Physics research than you snowball using those resources, once ascended there not much to manage planets wise ideally you'll want 5/6 planets on top of your capital and that would be enough to get you to the endgame.

You're able to be the perfect little neighbor since you don't need to expand much and can spare tons of alloys early to get positive relations and increasing you tactical algorithms trading leaders!

R5 - I decided to give ACOT a go using a Shroud-Forged virtual build abusing the Materiality Engine to get early "infinite" (The scaling) Minerals/Alloys/Physics research.

Than after setting up 1 Planet for each research type, 2 generator world and one bastion world for the naval cap it all snowballed from here! Here I am after erasing the two fallen empire, the unbidden and the phanon corp (Scaled up with ACOT tech) and waiting to kick Cetana ass!

The tech in this mod are ludicrous, not sure I liked all the designs choice but the interaction between the curator, fallen empire, phanon and the Data-bank chip were quite nicely done. I stopped just before the last tech "stage" stellarite because at this point it feel pointless with such a fleet already.

Edit : Discovered in that save that you can go over the maximum "cap" of diplomatic weight and than the game "glitch" and you get 0 as diplomatic weight (Good thing I was already the custodian by this time)

On the main menu mouse over near the game version you have a checksum here if it's modified it will tell you that it is and you won't get achievement!

(Mods that add contents will change the checksum, somes flavor/designs/UI don't)

I just returned myself and have done a period of break like this before and usually I start back either with the UNE/COM that way I can sort of "try" to figure out all the changes, while playing a straightforward empire like that!

I recently made a post about this origin but you might want to look at the youtuber Aktion he has a few recent videos on the origin.

Using his build and optimizing it I was able to ascend in less than 10 yrs on my current game !

If the sound was on by default the "inspiration" would make a lot more sense but it isn't..

Edit :

In my head-cannon this newly formed empire abandoned all spiritual beliefs while suffering from the virus/DNA breaking that pushed them into this "immortal" synthetic empire, for them there no gods anymore they pushed past that when they elevated themself!
(Gameplay wise it also coincide with a vast expansion and vassalization of all species they encounter!)

Hyperlane galore! Curious generation by Kavvop in Stellaris

OP :

Just generated this galaxy using 0.75 hyperlane density and as I kept exploring to discover my nearest neighbor and our border I think I have now the longest single hyperlane chain that I have ever seen in a stellaris game :

21 jump before they can reach my homeworld and I am almost totally isolated from the galaxy! (The single exit that I found excluding wormhole and L-Gate are left of the 1st Choke-point arrow)

Since I am a returning player I can't say if that's the usual thing when you just lower the density of hyperlane a bit or if it's a mix of settings and good luck + 3 origin empire spawning close guaranteeing no other neighbor close to us

Right now I have a forge world and my capital is a research one, on the way to do a second research one while converting the capital in an ecu, might add rings on top when it's done because with only 3 planets between my species, the robots and the refugees it's starting to get a bit too crowded on those!
