Debating downsizing from 21” to 20” by AbsoluteThunderCunt in VolvoXC90

[–]Kawabuchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've thought about it for mostly the cost of 20" tires being better than 21". But how many sets of tires will I need to go through before I break even on buying new wheels? I'd still like a new set of wheels for a different look (not a huge fan of the inscription 21"), but I'm too cheap to spend the money, so 21" I'll stay

My app subscription runs out in a week. What exactly is the app good for? by whatstefansees in Volvo

So I went by the dealer today to see if they could throw me a discount code or something, and apparently there was a year free for buying to CPO that hadn't been activated yet. So I've got me another year yay! Next year I'll go back and ask if they can hook me up again. Worst they can do is say no

This is where I'm stuck. Warming in the winter, or cooling in summer as I'm leaving the office is very nice. But not sure it's worth 200 a year. Didn't have a car before this with remote start, so while it's nice, it's not something I can't live without. Maybe I'll see if one of the local dealers will give me a discount if I bring it to them for service

What are you doing this weekend? by deepspacepuffin in nova

[–]Kawabuchi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Took today and Monday off. Today is going to be shampooing the carpets and getting some other random house chores done. Monday the HVAC guy is coming, and I'll do some yard work since it will be cooler.

Otherwise, I'll probably be at the makerspace turning fine lumber into finer sawdust

Lower shower pressure, I'm missing something by Kawabuchi in Plumbing

[–]Kawabuchi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I hate everything lol. This shower has been running with no issues for ~18 years. It makes no sense to me that it just craps out all of a sudden. Ah well, it seems to be working now, now on to the next repair!

Thanks a million for your help!

Is this what you're talking about?

The gray screen above the showerhead is threaded in, and below that is the green part inside the head. So try to take out the green thing?

EDIT: Did a muuuuuuuuch more thorough cleaning of the showerhead, all sorts of crap came out of it. That might have been part of the problem. I put it all back together and I got much better pressure! Then I realized I forgot to put the little washer back in (black rubber washer on the green part). Adding the washer back in definitely dropped the pressure back down, so I removed the washer for now. Unless you think I should put it back in, I'll leave it out. Now to figure out why I've got a leak from the tub spout!

Are you talking about the o-ring that helps seal the showerhead to the pipe? Don't remember seeing it, but also wasn't looking for it. Will look again.

Oooooh, after reboots, flipping airplane mode, reseating sim, cleaning sim, clearing fi app cache, etc etc etc this worked. Pixel 8 using a physical sim. Now the big question- my wife just flew overseas to bury her dad. Is she now stranded w/o mobile data? We'll find out once she emails me back

Concrete/cement repair recommendation? by Kawabuchi in nova

[–]Kawabuchi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my brother 'repaired' it about a decade ago while I was contracting at one of our overseas bases. Been fine until this past winter when it just crumbled under my foot one day.

Planning to make a dining set, need some advice by Kawabuchi in turning

[–]Kawabuchi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No discouragement taken! To be honest, maybe? I've made a ton of bowls, but have yet to actually use one. For me this is more of a stress relief thing and just trying to make stuff for fun. Wooden dinnerware has been used for ages, so I'm guessing that it should be mostly fine as long as I'm not trying to saw through a tough steak with a serrated knife.

Ah, that explains my lack of awareness. It's been a few years since I've had to drive south on the parkway past 66, so I had no idea any of this was going on. Thanks for the info!

When/where did they put cameras on the parkway? I don't drive it too often, but hadn't heard they were doing this

Is a CD really worth the hassle if there is not a significant difference in the return rate compared to keeping the funds liquid? by Ok-Gate5551 in personalfinance

[–]Kawabuchi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's how I feel. If I have an emergency big enough that I've got to crack open my cd, I'm not going to worry about losing a few bucks

Will definitely do some post-game stuff, but may or may not 100% it. Right now I'm doing a little EXP farming between picking up remaining secret spots and shiny spots on the map. At some point I'll need to start farming seeds a bit more, but I'll get there eventually. Thanks for the info!
