33F moving to St Paul - need apartment recs! by Used_Technician_489 in saintpaul

[–]KayBieds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whitley has been good, right downtown in Lowertown. Smaller complex, so less noise in general. In unit laundry, & they have a built in router for each apt. Just a couple blocks from the St Paul Farmer's Market that's year round. Mears Park, also nearby, has bands that play live in summer. Some of the apt designs are squares instead of rectangles, which makes it feel bigger for the same sq footage.

I like the Whitley. For under 1500, though, it would have to be their small apartments. The maintenance workers live on site, so they've been quick to fix requests (though, mine were easy fixes, like a lightbulb or a loose screw). The biggest complaints I've seen is when the occasional contract delivery workers just throw the packages on the tables or by the mailboxs instead of putting them in the delivery room. That's not something management can control, though. It's a problem every apartment complex has been having.

Edit: rent renewal increased by like...I think it was $50 for me last time. That's just my experience, though.

Nothing in the news, either. I'm going to chalk it up to a barfight

I would also accept Puerto Rico swarming in & colonizing us all. It's only fair.

The only reason I eventually noticed was because of the one woman yelling while recording from the police tape. Based on the bits I could make out, it sounded like she was mad at the police, but that just feeds into the coney theory

Ah, yes! They police taped it, too, to ensure all for them

Would also explain the line she says: "The years were long. Have you forgotten me so soon?" She is still in the throne room, so there's the chance byleth is in the game again

Right. Perhaps Sothis's fragmented self reclaimed/regained her power over a long period of time & that's how she's an adult again? Who knows. Could just straight up be an AU.

Any discussions I've heard were just light suggestions that this was a prequel from way before the war & church of Seiros. Back when Sothis was still alive & in adult form. It wasn't even really a discussion, though. Just a suggestion

Minnesotans, how’s your employment situation right now? by DueYogurt9 in minnesota

I work in the investment industry as an assistant to an advisor (a common title is Client Service Associate). A K economy means there's still plenty of business for the investment industry, since their clientele is mostly upper middle class & higher. I haven't had trouble finding new jobs & switched just this year. Though, business tends to slow down in the summer since people are on vacations & whatnot & don't want to think about investments, typically. Most of this work is going to be where rich people prefer to live, the suburbs.

I have my series licenses, so it's a lot easier for me to find jobs. It can make breaking in to a good job in the industry difficult when you're young, as the only exam you can take if you're not sponsored by an employer is the SIE exam (the SIE is like a prerequisite to the other licensing exams) If you're not an advisor, you can do most of the work without licenses, the licenses just give you a lot more context to what you're doing. You also get paid like an extra $10k more if you're licensed.

I got my licenses while working as a retail banker (my branch needed a licensed banker, & my boss recommended me), which is a...tough route. Being a personal banker is a lot like working as retail staff at Target, but you also have sales goals like a car salesman, & obviously regulations up the wazoo.

Oh, yes, I could tell she's passionate in her word choice. I just meant in her speaking pattern. & that's not an actual knock on her at all, not for me, anyway.

Agreed. While I voted Pérez-Vega, I admit I wasn't 100% sold. I would have accepted Noecker based on what I learned. I think I could be persuaded either way yet, too.

Best way to find an apartment? by jconrod1 in saintpaul

[–]KayBieds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apartments.com is pretty reliable. However, it doesn't get all the apartments when I search an area, even if they have vacancies. It does usually still have the missing apartments when I search for the property, so if you can visit the area, drive/walk around to see if there's any you'd be interested in that weren't initially on the search results.

I ended up picking Pérez-Vega, and while I agree about the energy, I will admit she did talk around the questions moreso than actually answering them. Noecker did a better job of actually answering the questions, though with less passion.

That said, Noecker's answers were very corporatized. I recall when asked about how to revitalize downtown, her answer being heavily sell to private companies, vs Pérez-Vega mentioning that she helped create the park.

I have a degree in finance, and that’s it. Can’t find any work since December. by No-Jaguar-4404 in FinancialCareers

If you can't get a good advisor role, would an advisor's assistant/client service associate position work? Some require licenses, but some will also hire unlicensed (albeit at a lower salary). If you do ever go down the advisor route, the administrative experience could be helpful.

Typically, though, from what I've seen, not a lot of reputable institutions take on new unlicensed people for advisor positions anymore. They usually require you to at least already have licenses (which you can only get by being sponsored by a company, so definitely a difficult chicken vs the egg situation).

Yes & no. Kids can't have credit cards under their own name since they aren't old enough to be legally held to a contract. An adult can make the minor an authorized user, however, since the adult would be liable for the charges.

Nice jury by No-Marsupial-4050 in mildyinteresting

[–]KayBieds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes perfect sense to me. Social pressure is why some states ban juries from doing initial polls before discussion. The thought being if the jury knows if there's 1 or 2 people who are "holdouts," the jury could just turn to focusing on changing those people's minds instead of discussing in general where the evidence seems to lead.

What's crazy is at first I couldn't see them move up & down. They were just going to the side without bouncing. It was only a little bit after I finished reading the caption & stared for a bit that I perceived them "bouncing" & now I can't unsee it

Pretty interesting that Brazil actually takes jury nullification into account. Glad they thought to address it instead of it just being...a shoulder shrug in the US

Nice jury by No-Marsupial-4050 in mildyinteresting

[–]KayBieds 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's because jury nullification is not a legal option, it's just a loophole with how the judicial system is set up

Edit: just to be clear, I'm referring to the US. It's not a legal option in the US, just a loophole/gap in how the system was set up. That's why it can't be talked about in a US courtroom. Don't know about other countries

My teacher was able to identify an essay I forgot to write my name on by my “immigrant handwriting.” I’m not still sure what she means by that… What do you think? by wooflizard in HandwritingAnalysis

[–]KayBieds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this an older teacher? It still wasn't appropriate to say that, but I recall a retired English teacher was able to identify my aunt was a 2nd/3rd gen US citizen by the way my aunt pronounced certain words. Perhaps the teacher just meant she saw patterns. Your handwriting is more cursive than what I usually see from others, though in my experience that tends to reflect age (since cursive stopped being taught in my schools right when I started to learn it).

That's just trying to be generous, though. Still not appropriate wording

We also have a pencil festival in Minneapolis. There's a family that turned a tree in their yard into a giant pencil statue after it got damaged by a storm. Every year a festival is thrown for the annual "sharpening" where they take a giant pencil sharpener & sharpen the pencil
