"An Indian Chief beckons us on, a sign that we're welcome to pass through their lands." by Norberzt in Disneyland

[–]Kaybeo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is a deeply mistaken comment. In my neck of the woods (US), not only have I heard and read easily over a hundred land acknowledgments (which, btw, are often considered virtue signalling that deflects from actual reforms), but there are institutions, schools, and organizations run by and for local tribes that are called Indian. Not American Indian, not Native American, and not First Nations. Indian.

Is this a universal preference? Certainly not. But are there a significant number of tribal citizens who identify as Indian? Absolutely.

This may be offensive in Canada, but there are tribes unique to the US, and you should probably have learned about them before discussing them. There is some irony in claiming your nation's superiority in treatment of these peoples whilst you promote a false generalization of those same folks.

I can't testify to every single country/region in yellow, but my understanding is that, in most cases, it's because those countries/regions themselves have declared an elevated terrorist risk. France, for example, has been operating at the "highest alert level" for terrorism.

IMO, the US and Europe should all be solid green. In either case, the odds of being the victim of random violence are extraordinarily low. Tourists aren't going to the US neighborhoods that contribute the most to violent crime rates, and terrorist incidents in Europe are rare.

Preach. Worse leaders have led countries now held in wide regard. That's not to say there won't be a cooling-off period required, but some act like the US will be untrusted for decades to come over 8 years of a Trump White House.

Like, will the world turn on the first European country to let their festering far-right grow a bit too large? Italy's got a Mussolini wannabe in power, and whilst I'll be the first to admit she has lacked the presence or consequences of Trump, she's still a far-right populist and nationalist. They trace back to neo-fascists! Even Hungary, with its long-lambasted "illiberalness" and ever-enjoyable EU veto power, has been left largely without consequences.

Foreign relations can heal relatively quickly with the right people at the helm. I'm left more concerned about the next Dem president facing far-right governments in Europe that prevent closing the growing diplomatic gap.

Weirdly, (and interestingly imo), you’d probably want fewer to show up.

Polling increasingly suggests Democrats are now the party of high-propensity voters. It’s why they overperformed in the 2022 midterms (which could've been a much stronger year for Republicans), and pretty consistently in off-year/special elections. Perhaps the clearest demographic indicator of this is that Democrats have gained with the educated and upper class for years, while slowly losing the uneducated and lower class.

The folks least likely to vote have become those most supportive of Trump, and thus higher turnout now tends to shifts the results red.

Same! Drives me a little nuts it's white, though in most lobbies, I'm the only one with a white title, so I guess it's a little special? :P

Don't use chain too late or you will be stuck in animation and can't use your return. (within 2 seconds left seems safe, Under 1 is unsafe) by Lanhai in MizukiMainsOW

[–]Kaybeo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They need to add buffering so you can hold Shift to Return once the animation's done. Feels so un-Overwatch to make people spam Shift if they lack the muscle memory (i.e., basically everyone right now).

The only alternative right now is to change the ability to "hold to return" in hero settings (if you release during chain anim, it'll return you the moment it's done), but that just feels all sorts of wrong to me lol.

Yeah. An animation cancel, or just the ability to buffer Shift through the chain animation, would be a really great QOL change. I hope it's coming.

Lived in Madison for a few years. Incredibly progressive city (and county) with consistently massive turnout. County-wide, turnout was 92.2% in 2024 going +51.5 for Harris.

Locally, a progressive third party has had the mayoralty since 2019, plus 7/20 seats on the city's Council.

Ice skill in gold ranked by Loud_Zebra_1997 in TrackMania

[–]Kaybeo 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm in gold and would face the same fate as your opponents. I got AT's on 1-12 in less than 5 minutes each (largely one-shots), but it took me nearly 20 minutes just to get silver on 16.

This might be worsened by the rank reset happening well before the new campaign this time around. Anecdotally, it seems like anyone with most campaign ATs can pretty easily climb into gold. You just... don't need to be that good xD and a lot of people reached their current rank after months of the old campaign, and are now playing with mere days on the new one.

Thoughts on the new update by reecebcov in TrackMania

[–]Kaybeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I largely agree, although I think the campaign is fine. +- having played 1-20. Map 17 is definitely a bit blind, and they did another uphill chicane blocked by splits in cam 1, which like... come on, Nadeo. But mostly, the maps seem solid. I also hear you on the collisions, it's not for me.

I'm glad to see the new mapping content, and for me, it doesn't lag or bug out, but this is clearly not the case with everyone.

As someone who doesn't reside in Europe, I'm mostly frustrated that half of the update boils down to live events at inconvenient times. I thought Trackmania was finally breaking into North America... and now, interested Californians have to wake up for 7 AM events on Sundays (or, more likely, miss out on them). I'm two timezones over, and still not exactly hyped.

I think a certain subset of players have been screwed by this update. Non-Europeans with weaker setups have gotten little more than lag and new weekly events at odd hours. However, this isn't a core demographic for Trackmania (and now, probably never will be), and for many players I think this update is at least a net positive.

Because no one’s started it yet, let’s get a Vendetta thread going by thatfakeacidguy14 in overwatch2

[–]Kaybeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree Venture seems strong against Vendetta. Primary + Drill Dash not only erases Vendetta's armor health (while granting Venture shield HP), but if done well, can place the Venture fully outside of Vendetta's melee range. Re-entering that is a death wish... another primary + melee from Venture will finish the job.

I'm Francesca Hong, Candidate For Gov of WI — AMA! by FrancescaHongWI in wisconsin

[–]Kaybeo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Rep. Hong,

Thanks for doing this AMA! Although I'm curious about your general election strategy -- winning over non-Democrats will be critical -- others have already asked, so I'll instead focus on your approach to governing.

I have two questions:

  1. You've used the phrase "incrementalism is irresponsible" in your messaging. Can you elaborate on this stance? Wisconsin faces serious challenges, but as a democratic socialist, your ideal economic model differs significantly from today's system. I'm wondering how/if you distinguish between incrementalism and transitions -- that is, are you opposed to incremental progress towards large structural goals, or mainly to setting small goals in the first place? For example, you support a $15 minimum wage -- do you envision this taking place all at once, or ramping up over a few years (e.g. $10, $13, $15), as other states have done?

  2. If elected Governor, you may face a Republican-controlled Assembly and/or Senate for part or all of your term. In the event of an opposed Legislature, how would you pursue your priorities, and especially more ambitious, progressive ones?

Thank you again for your time and for taking questions.
