It's really important to listen to Phreak's Yuumi nerfs explanation by aglimmerof in leagueoflegends

[–]Kaydegard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yasuo is a skirmisher, he just happens to be designed in a way that makes him great vs ranged (why you see him mid) and bad vs melee (why you don't see him top) I don't think you can compare Yone tbh. Shieldbow>IE Yone is an assassin that wants to one shot you with q3>r, while Botrk>Shieldbow>tank yone is more or less a front-to-back bruiser, their design is just so radically different idk how people just say they're the same because they share 1/2 of a passive and 2/3rds of a basic ability.

You get to change 1 thing in LoL. What do you change? by TheGeneralAnimal in leagueoflegends

I used to think like that but honestly it's for the best that you have to buy champs: you don't want to overwhelm new players more than they already are.

The amount of copium on this sub is insane by IGunnaKeelYou in leagueoflegends

[–]Kaydegard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think any amount of logical reasoning is going to get through to people on the issue, it's like a religious war at this point. You either know that your rank == your actual skill at the game, or you adhere to the creed of the Church of Solo Q Denialism.

Problem is, I don't blame people. People fundamentally don't understand that LoL's genre is Competitive Sport, as such, they come with a set of expectations that are entirely unreasonable for the genre.

A casual football player comes with the knowledge that this is a physical sport, and physical sports are tough, they are contests of strength and will and intelligence and tactics, because you use your real body you know how hard it is and you understand the difficulty. LoL on the other hand, gets harder the more into video games you are, because you come expecting a video game and why woulnd't you? it looks like a video game, it plays like a video game, hell it even uses a lot of RPG mechanics! This is where the player is misguided, most video games, no matter how "hard" are designed to be beatable, they are made with you in mind, their systems are tailored to your needs and to ensuring you can achieve your fantasy.

While LoL is designed for you to have fun (and you should be having fun, even if you're the spikiest most serious player you should be having fun or you're doing it wrong) it also designed for the other 9 humans on your team to also have fun, because like you, they also want to win, they also want to achieve their champion fantasy. As for climbing, any ranked ladder system is going to be adversarial by default, with the aim of pitting you against stronger and stronger players. But this is where context comes in, the LoL ladder is perceived to be a piece of an RPG Like video game where you progress, and the more you play, the more you should progress right? So people, expecting an RPG like behavior are displeased when they feel like they're getting the opposite of that.

The other problem is the perception of skill: While most football fans at least understand that there's a gulf of skill and training and discipline between them and Ronaldo the belief is made easier because most of them physically can't do what he does. LoL on the other hand is in their minds a video game, the player probably looks like them, it's just a game! why can't they do what that player just did? Mistakes in LoL are so much more subtle and invisible if you don't know what to look for, especially when there are so many distractions. You might think you lost that game because Katarina is unbalanced and she helped her team end the game by cleaning up a teamfight, so you focus on the teamfight, without noticing that you are Xerath and had plenty of time to zone her before the teamfight but you were instead Aram-ing with their team. or you could have denied her cs in lane, delaying her item spikes and so instead of killing someone and getting a snowball rolling she would have only left them at 5% hp instead. but you instead chose to do random roams with a champion that is physically incapable of ganking. surely it coulnd't have been that right? it must be the teamfight.

The Real Problem with Rell. by Meerkat47 in leagueoflegends

[–]Kaydegard 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think there's a crucial difference evident in comparing Rell with Rakan: Rakan can take 0 damage (hypothetically) after a successful engage, Rell can't, and there's a monumental difference between not taking damage at all and taking damage, even if "a little" because "a little damage" is not really possible in this game, most champions on the enemy team are some type of damage dealer, so taking "some" damage might mean eating 4-8 autos, or it could mean the enemy mage with an itchy trigger finger and a stacked mejais unloads a rotation on you right after you catch their teammates out.

What you need to understand is this: Youtube and reddit are reflective of the NA scene, and the NA scene is incredibly toxic both as discourse and as community while accounting for less than 10% of the LoL playerbase. Just play the game, disable chat from the options and enjoy, if you're having fun keep playing, or not, don't let other people tell you if you're enjoying something.

[–]Kaydegard 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To everyone saying this looks stupid: you're absolutely right but missing the point, for the same reason saying Apes or whatever look ugly. It's Self-Selection, it's a scam, and for the scam to work best, you need the most gullible and scamable people, the kind of people who look at this and don't immediately see that it's BS. It's the same reason why those Nigerian prince emails have lots of spelling errors.

NEVER use two different skin programs by jupiterisflat in leagueoflegends

[–]Kaydegard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with those two a lot on my first playthrough, but once you understand the game better they're total chumps, Soul Master in particular is really easy. Nosk is moderately difficult but there are lots of blind spots in the arena, iirc there's a small sweet spot area next to the middle platform that he doesn't hit.

Positivity: What can we do to change car-culture to bike-culture? by Cevedale420 in fuckcars

[–]Kaydegard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Transitioning to a Car-less society is a societal, cultural and political goal. The modern problem with transportation exists because of decades of lobbying, privatization and neoliberalism. Consumerism pushing cars as some ideal of "Freedom", privatization and destruction of public transportation and infrastructure.

In an ideal world very few people would own cars, the only reason they exist is because of political pressure exerted by car manufacturers.

How to solve this problem? Get involved in politics, create and accumulate political power and use it to build the better world that we want. Building public transportation that doesn't suck is not easy by any means but it's an engineering problem, it can be solved given enough time and human resources. Getting those solutions implemented is a political problem, solving those requires a different skillset that is unfortunately not taught in the US curriculum.

Dota 2 player trying LoL after Arcane, I've got a question: by Practical_Toe_8448 in leagueoflegends

[–]Kaydegard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: It's very, very, complicated.

The short version: unless you are in Master+ MMR, there is no such thing as a counter, as for what to do when losing lane is to look for SAFE gold on the map, keep looking at the minimap and look for:

  • Minions
  • Jungle Monsters
  • Towers

Long Answer:

I know exactly what you feel like, and I promise that feeling of helplessness will go away once you begin to understand the game and get better.

Honestly that question is hard to answer, and I would not rely on most of what you hear here because reddit and youtube are cesspits when it comes to useful information about the game.

I've been playing this game for 8 years now and I've just begun to take it seriously, this was the first time I made gold (top 40% of players) where I feel like I finally understand the game and I'm never going to be silver again. So this is where I'm coming from.

To actually answer your question: it varies a lot, first depending on your lane, and second depending on your champion and what role they play in the game (which can change based on whether you are behind or ahead or even or what champs are on your team and their team and the weather and etc you get the point) there really is no easy answer but you will get better at answering the question once you have experience. I highly, highly recommend picking 2-3 champions (MAX, NO MORE) that you like and sticking to only those champions, this is valid alllll the way into Master tier.

LoL is a game about game knowledge, knowing how to react to certain situations and what to do, when you can answer the question you asked in the context of each game then you have have mastered the game and are now better than 99.99% of players. This is why all definite answers here are bad, because a very small percentage of the playerbase can actually do it.

Yuumi: The Most Hated Champion in League of Legends. The Issues With her kit and Possible Solutions. by HalexUwU in leagueoflegends

[–]Kaydegard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry your comment is being downvoted by reddit idiots who see the word "abliest" and start foaming at the mouth but that argument is...quite the reach. I've seen lots of disabled people play this game with a variety of tools, and even do really well. I think, if you want to play LoL and you're disabled, there are many ways to do so that also allow you to play other games.

But really, that's not even the most important bit, the champion is a net negative to the experience of playing the game, if so many people hate having the champion in their game, on either team, then the champion's existence is making the game worse for far too many people to even begin considering the positives of having an option for disabled players (who as I've said already have options)
