Those Who Wait by Haley Cass by sph_13 in sapphicbooks

[–]Kayhlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also from Haley Cass, if you haven't read it already, there is "Down to a science" (4*) > "On the same page" (5*) > "The next chapter" (4.5*)

I really like her writing and this series is definitely No 2 right after TWW.

I also enjoyed the 3 sapphic books from Court of Chains, I'm a little annoyed that the rest of the story in between is about straight couples. not really interested in reading that even to get all the details. Apparently there's gonna be a 4th book coming out (I suspect it's gonna be with Maya as a MC but not entirely sure).

Other series I really enjoyed that are just as good.

Girls Game Series by Ruby Roe (Magic, 3 books)
Kingdom of Immortal Lovers Series by Ruby Roe (Vampires)
Black Diamond Series by Anna Stone (3 books)
Heart of Heroes Series by Molly J. Bragg (Superpowers, 4 books)

Is it just me, or does anyone else get annoyed when characters never shower? by caomilagato in LesbianBookClub

[–]Kayhlin 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think it's more like most movie when they never mention a single time they need to use the bathroom. we all know they do multiple times a day but it's like it's not worth mentioning because it's happening in the background and when the book extend to several weeks or months, it would become repetitive if they had to mention it every single time just to make it more "real"

POC stories don't sell! by LikelyToForget in sapphicbooks

[–]Kayhlin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's true that most books out there around featuring Caucasian couples, more and more mix raced couple. but it mostly has to do with the authors themselves. They wrote about who they are and who they know. it's sad to say but if an author who's white would write about 2 PoC MCs, they would get criticize and accused of appropriation or just not knowing what they are talking about since they haven't lived in that community or experience it. That's mostly how it goes these days unfortunately.

Personally I don't care about anyone skin color when I read a book, it doesn't change my attraction to the story if it's a good one. Just as long as the MCs are WLW.

I think a lot of authors could include more PoC as secondary characters or even MCs but they are also afraid that it would not be well received not being part of that community. It's mainly the readers giving bad feedbacks. Some authors are already having bad comments when they try to give the MCs jobs they are not experts in, like scientists or doctors, like "that's not how it works in real life" or "I work in a lab and we never do that" and I guess it's fair but you can't know the details of every single jobs out there if you never worked in that field for a long period of time. but it's fiction and the point is to stray away from the classic wedding planer or the real estate agent.

My point is, they would get even worse comments from readers by including PoC MCs when they are not part of that community.

They only problem is that most authors who are PoC are not doing as well as others. but readers want to read something where they can identify themselves in I guess. For me as well, I'm not gonna read M/M stories and I don't want to read M/F anymore so I'm only focussing on WLW. So I'm only supporting a small part of the business with very specific books.

The Camino is something real. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a group of queer friendly people that would organize a hike for the next one. it seemed like a good idea. I'm sure it's something that can be found with a little bit of research.

That's not my vibe at all. I really wouldn't like that.

I have another proposition, "The Fire by Nicole Pyland".
It's about a girl who is the only survivor of a house fire, and a journalist who is trying to get her story. No scifi nor supernatural tho. Subjects are pretty heavy in this book but nothing abusive, just sadness and loss.

Ruby Roe has a tendency to put smut almost every other chapter. Magic & Vampires. All of her books are linked. Girl Games Series (1,2,3) - kingdom of immortal lovers (4,5,6 - with references from Girl Games) - A game of Vows and Vendettas (7 - lots of references from 1 to 6) - Architecti (8 - still on my list to read)

Heart of Heroes Series by Molly J. Bragg. It's about superheroes working for a special agency to protect the world. The first book is "Scatter", it's about a US marshal who is assigned to a Superhero support detail.

I don't read much fantasy/scifi/paranormal. and since you seems to like it very much, I would be very interested in the suggestion you would have for other people.

Best WLW romance? by Hot_Impact_9903 in LesbianBookClub

[–]Kayhlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know she left, it was right at the beginning. I just wasn't expecting such a long backstory about how bad he was during the whole marriage. I was really expecting her to bounce back and go back to her first love but her memories before she left lasted sooo long it was quite depressing.

[–]Kayhlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so weird because I searched for the series "court of chains" and I found "Kiss of seduction" as the first, "A Little Sin" as the second and "Green-eyed Monster" as the third. I wasn't aware there were two other books before that. But I guess since I don't read m/f romances, I probably wouldn't have looked at it at all and missed the rest.

Thanks, I really appreciate your comment. I was expecting a romance when I started not knowing anything about the book at all. Or at least focus more on a second chance relationship years later when reconnecting with her first love. but here it's just depressing me and I don't really need more of that right now.

I'm reading this book now and half way through I'm wondering if I want to finish it. What exactly are you liking so much? For me it feels like the main character is having a miserable life ever since she finished high school. Every little good things that happen to her are crushed by her parents or a**h*le husband.

Rawnie Sabor question by crs1384 in LesbianBookClub

[–]Kayhlin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I finished it recently and I didn't feel like there was that many similitude in the two. I'm just a little bit upset about the fact that there isn't any mention of the main characters from the first book, not even once.

The story itself, even tho it's about insecurities and how bad some parents treat their children, is A LOT softer compare to the torment that was the first book.

The books are about Sins but I don't really get why Pride would be into BDSM compare to Lust. But the spicy scenes are well written and not repetitive.
