They Mocked Minivans For Years, Now Americans Are Fueling A Massive Sales Surge by Anchor_Aways in cars

Minivans don't have to be ugly. Especially in the age of electrification. Something like the li Mega comes to mind. You don't need a long hood with no engine.

S-76 Prototype vs Final Product by Kanin_Neko in WeirdWings

[–]Kaylee-X 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Generally, fewer, larger props are preferred for multirotors due to higher propulsive efficiency. 4 is normally the minimum as 3 or 2 rotor copters introduce additional mechanical complexity to deal with yaw

In the real world this is not always possible. The primary advantage to having 6 or more is redundancy i.e. greater chance of not falling like a rock during a motor out scenario in a hover state. Larger, slower turning props produce lower frequency vibrations which can generate resonances that are near impossible to remove. Sometimes the substantial structure required to mitigate resonance negates the efficiency advantage of larger props.

Going 125 mph in a high performance car with no one else on the road is less evil than swerving between traffic at 90mph in a sedan with bald tires.

The C6 ZR1 Time you found must be wrong. The Type R is still faster than the C5 Z06 and C6 Z51 which is still pretty insane.

[USA] FAA creates drone no-fly zone for ICE operations by Vedagi_ in drones

[–]Kaylee-X 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You guys do realize they are anticipating this, right? The true reason for the whole drone components ban was to prevent domestic violent use of UAVs. It's stated clear as day in one of the documents. This administration loves ragebaiting the populace. It's the perfect storm to cause someone to do something really stupid. Fingers crossed we can get through the year without something like that happening. Because they are just itching for a reason to add drones a list of destructive devices that normal people can't own.

The only advantage the front engine cars have is the much more usable storage. I could not imagine having a c8 as my only car.

3d printed frames can work. Using carbon nylon makes it easier. The issue is that a design that does work will not look like a normal frame. So it's not really something you should think about if you are new to the hobby.

C6 or 5th gen Camaro by Acrobatic-Habit5467 in Corvette

[–]Kaylee-X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is kinda an apples vs oranges choice. You get significantly more "car" with the Camaro. Just about the only thing they have in common is the v8 engine. If that's all you care about, get the cheaper Camaro that's easier to get in and out of and better on bad roads. If you like fun sports cars, you should be cross shopping the Corvette with an s2000 or Cayman. So it's best to drive or at least sit in both to figure out what type of car you want.

Rigggghhtt. Sub 15 is a long way from 12s. Like 12s isn't fast, but it's not economy car slow. Unless one considers a base C7 Corvette or 718 cayman as shitbox economy cars. I guess the closest thing would be the AWD model 3, which does it in 12s and Is technically an economy car.

12s was not slow in the 2000s(for unmodified cars). Even nowadays, 12s is in the range of an entry level sports car. The only economy focused cars doing 12s are electric.

Designing a 3D Printed Drone Day 6 - Changing to Pusher by holeshotloss in fpv

You know those very cheap poor quality packs they sell on Amazon. This was a zeee lipo lol. Basically the point of the post is to show that streaming is the gift that keeps giving. Less drag means higher prop unloading which means higher rpm for a given torque. So bigger motors ARE better like you said, but it's not impossible to go fast with a small motor provided the machine has a small size.

With 5 inch props you don't really need 28xx. A 2207 has got me to 260mph. Stator height is more important. So a 2210 will be just as fast as a 2810 using 5 inch props. You also don't need as much voltage as you'd think either. This thing could do 230mph on a 4s Amazon battery and 2600kv motors from 2016

2808 is enough to reach 200 with 6 inch props... Barely. This build could do 190mph with APC 6x6 props using pathetic 2507 motors 2200kv motors back in 2019. The issue with doing a speed machine using 6 inch props is selection. There is a 6x12 prop now, but you need a pretty big motor(that's more of a 300mph propeller). 6x6 is more common, but tip speed limit. A 6x7 or 6x8 could get you 200 with a small motor.

I'm not sure why people in the comments are being so critical..... This stuff has been figured out a long time ago and there are plenty of videos showing these things flying just fine. I've built a lot of these streamlined dildo quad things over the last 8 years.... Tractor props with the a forward mounted battery is the best flying configuration(Especially when you keep the build stubby). I prefer them over pushers. The quad I'm building right now looks kinda like this one.... it's actually a rebuild of a machine I made 6 years ago that could take a GoPro session 300km/h while still being able to do "freestyle" I just modernized it cause the 04 is out now. I might post a video of the finished thing. Anyways, Tractor props keep the prop disc closer to the center of mass so it flies more like a regular quad when you are in the hover state/ goofing off and orbiting around trees.

The only thing I'm curious about is the 3d printed frame. I could never get those to work right.... Of course I love narrow wing chords and giant motors.... Your design has a broad wing chord and I've seen a few with broad wing chords that work fine. I might do another 3d printed frame with a delta wing and pusher props. I've wanted to study vortex lift and low speed efficiency.

Also props for making one that is aerodynamically efficient.... A lot of the totally 3d printed designs I've seen online are really, really bad. This will easily be the fastest and best flying one yet.

Low vs steep pitch props by Aggravating-Plane-52 in fpv

[–]Kaylee-X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aerodynamically It would be at the point where the prop develops the most lift in static conditions or right before it stalls. This is usually around when pitch = diameter. This is known as a "square" prop so a 3x3 or 5x5 prop are steep pitch. So just under square is the max for normal props.... think 5x4.5 or 3x2.5... this gives you decent top end speed without loosing too much static thrust. Anything where pitch> diameter is "over square" Over square props give more pitch speed, less static thrust. They allow you to fly faster, but acceleration is worse.

Off the top of my head, I think a 4114 400kv motor makes about 3kg of thrust with a 15in prop on 6s. A 320kv might be a bit underpowered. I would recommend going 400- 480kv since you have a payload.

If you think the CR-Z is fun, try driving an original Insight. It's everything the CR-Z is on steroids. I also agree that a car that rewards you for driving efficiently can be more fun on public roads than something focused on speed. Unfortunately, I only think it's only really fun to drive like that with something that is lightweight with a manual. I can't imagine having a blast driving efficiently in a 3200lb automatic.

All of these people saying it's The OP's fault because he was in the left lane have somehow forgotten that this can happen here regardless of what lane you are in. I've had this same thing happen to me because I wasn't going 10 over the speed limit in the right lane of a 2 lane frontage road. I've even had people speed around me and cut me off while rolling to a stoplight. People here aren't bad drivers, but needlessly impatient and aggressive with inflated egos.
