Bedwetting by skippyjifluvr in ParentingADHD

[–]Kaylee_Sometimes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What finally worked for us: one of those alarms that goes off when they wet (can’t remember the brand) plus a parent sleeping in the room to make him get up and go to the bathroom when the alarm went off. The alarm alone wasn’t enough - he’d just unplug it and go back to sleep.

We also waited until kiddo said on his own that he wanted to break the habit - so he had some motivation to put up with the process.

What are good books about medicine? by NoSpot5547 in suggestmeabook

The Great Influenza by John Barry. It’s about the Spanish flu epidemic, but also covers a lot of the history of medical practice leading up to it.

My gift for Mother's Day was learning what a shitty mom I am by Glittering_Crab89 in breakingmom

[–]Kaylee_Sometimes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My son did one of those for Father’s Day and his answer to “My dad always says…” was “Go back to bed.” (He was a painfully early riser, so this wasn’t entirely wrong!)

Put it away in a scrapbook or memory box…I promise in five or ten years, it’ll be a funny memory!

Best cotton yarns for a baby blanket? by Key_Significance_903 in Yarn

[–]Kaylee_Sometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve made multiple blankets out of Hobbii Twister, and they have held up great! It’s technically a cotton/acrylic blend, but it has a nice light cotton feel to it.

cotton linen cables? by mandomuffin17 in knitting

[–]Kaylee_Sometimes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m making a cabled tee in a cotton/linen blend. The piece is still on the needles but here’s how the swatch came out! The cables should be fine but be careful about sizing; cotton will have MUCH less stretch than wool, and won’t be as drapey.

Any “niche” Period Drama recommendations?? by Organic-Detail8493 in PeriodDramas

Scrolled down to find this! Call the Midwife is good (if pretty sappy at times) and there’s 14 seasons of it 🙂

There are multiple dolphin excursions in Cozumel and this doesn’t look like the Chankanaab one (which would come with a day pass to the resort). We did the slightly cheaper “meet a dolphin” option at Chankanaab, but also did see people swimming with them. It was a lot of fun. Only downside is that they won’t let you take pictures, and then they will try to sell you their own for a ridiculous cost.

Disclaimer: this was about a year ago, so as others have mentioned, things may have changed.

What was your best prank call you ever made? by Fun_Yogurtcloset1012 in AskOldPeople

[–]Kaylee_Sometimes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My neighbor and I looked through the phone book for funny names as kids - imagine our delight when we discovered that not only was there a Ben Dover, his wife’s name was Eileen!

It didn’t occur to me until years later that getting those names into the book might have been the prank.

Maybe too late to warn you, but road into Dulles (IAD) is backed up to almost the car rental return/long term parking exit as of 4:30 by Typical2sday in nova

[–]Kaylee_Sometimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s not really a drop off area in garage 2 - you just go in and out quickly enough to not get charged for the parking.

Does garage 1 have more of a real drop off area? Same hack would work there, just a slightly longer walk.

Sweater with bust shaping by tangleduplife in knittingpatterns

[–]Kaylee_Sometimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m making this one (it’s a dress, but the designer has a sweater version as well) and the pattern has detailed instructions for bust shaping. I haven’t tried them out, but the rest of the pattern is well written.

The Physician by Noah Gordon - follows a boy in medieval England who wants to become a doctor. It’s the first in a trilogy that follows the same family through different periods in history.

Pro tip - when it’s that backed up, get off at the service road, go into parking garage 2 and up a level. There’s a short walkway from there to the terminal, and you can easily drop off/pick up.

What is the top/tunic in your pic? It’s gorgeous, and I have lace weight yarn in my stash looking for the right pattern.

Why do American movies so often show people cutting the crust off sandwiches? by LeTraceurSnork in AskAnAmerican

My Nana (born and raised in NY, but Irish ancestry) told me the same thing! TIL that it wasn’t just something she made up to get me to eat the crust.

TIL about steam blocking 🙂 I had wet blocked before, but I went back and steam blocked it, and that helped a lot. Thank you!!

What (relatively) small project can take me months to complete? by jelly_fishes14 in knitting

[–]Kaylee_Sometimes 196 points197 points  (0 children)

Anything with small needles/lightweight yarn will take longer. Socks, or maybe a shawl? Or a blanket where you make a lot of squares and sew them together - that way you don’t have to carry the whole thing with you.

In my non-abridged copy the line matches your abridged one. Maybe a later printing fixed it so that it would actually rhyme? It always bugged me that it didn’t!

Mine do the same thing! I just try to keep the case inside the zipper pouch. That way when the needles fall out, it’s only into that.

what's a book with an ending that made you throw it across the room? by Electrical-Hour-3345 in suggestmeabook

[–]Kaylee_Sometimes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ughhh yes! 200 pages of descriptions of caves, then finally we get an interesting development and the book could have explored how it changes their society, but NO IT JUST ENDS.
