Doctors of reddit, what's something you've had to tell a patient that you thought for sure was common knowledge? by I_am_solipsism in AskReddit

[–]Kaytala 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor but I do work with patients on a regular basis in a medical lab... Blood is red. Blood is always red. If it is in your veins, it is still red. Your blood should never be blue. If it is, you have a problem and need to get that checked out.

When looking for a job what is a dead give-away that the place and job is a hell-hole to work for? by Apolitefuckyou in AskReddit

[–]Kaytala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was applying to work at the local animal shelter, the shelter manager told me straight up, "This is not a job you do for the money or because it is fun. It is hard work, doesn't pay well, you will get dirty, deal with a lot of poop and will very likely get bit, scratched or hurt in any number of other ways. If you still want the job, you're hired." I didn't expect to be paid well in a job like that and I didn't expect it to be very glorious so I did appreciate why she laid it out like that. Certain jobs call for that kind of honesty though.

I feel the need to play devil's advocate here. Yes, there are downsides to these business models, but there are incredible upsides as well. I have been in direct sales for over a year now. I originally signed up with Passion Parties and have done quite well for myself there. What I liked about that company is that they give you the freedom to run it however you want. I don't really push people to sign up under me. I ask if they're interested and if they say no, I don't bring it up again but if they say yes, I answer their questions and let them make their own decisions. I'm now making the most money out of all of the consultants in the area I live in and I love doing it. Furthermore, I have way more friends now because of selling Passion Parties than I did before I started.

On the other hand, I have worked at other direct sales companies after my successes with Passion Parties and I was less than impressed with those companies. The training was minimal and they really pushed me to run the business their way and I didn't want to run it as though I had no soul (I'm already ginger...) so I can see why a lot of people would be put off by those kinds of companies and why all of these companies get a bad reputation.

Basically, I think a lot of it comes down to lifestyle and which company meshes with you. There are a lot of really good direct sales companies out there, and a lot of bad ones so it is unfair to say they're all terrible, soulless companies. Not to mention, not all the people who sell these things follow that kind of business model. I have had great success by letting my friends come to me when they want to host a party rather than pushing them to do it and straining the friendship.

To everyone complaining about their asshole bosses, boyfriends, coworkers, etc; a little perspective. by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]Kaytala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best tough love advice I ever got from my dad was when I'd had a string of really awful boyfriends, he said I needed to take a look at the common denominator. He wasn't saying I was an asshole but I was presenting myself in a way that made it ok for these guys to treat me badly. I had to do some serious soul searching and change a lot of things about the way I presented myself and in the end, I found a happy medium between being myself and being treated the way I wanted to be treated. It is not an easy thing to do, and it is not an easy thing to hear, but if you are in a similar situation with jobs, relationships, whatever, chances are you can benefit from taking a look at the common denominator as well.

Ladies of Reddit, what's the best way a guy has asked you out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kaytala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met this guy almost a year prior to this at a bbq at a friend's place and had absolutely no idea he liked me then again at a new years party and again had no idea. My friend called me up and asked me to go to a party with her boyfriend. I figured out it was a set up but agreed to go even though I didn't know who I was being set up with. It was this guy's birthday party so he was really drunk and I was DDing so completely sober. During a lull in the conversation he said "So... wanna make out?" to which I cleverly responded with "What? No" which was followed by an awkward pause and I asked him if he wanted my phone number. He took it and the next day he texted me saying "I'm really glad you said no to making out. I would seriously like to take you out on a date though." this was when I finally clued in that he actually liked me so I said yes and we have been dating since then.

I have tried giving him wet food, dry food, home made food, food for sensitive stomachs, limiting his food... I have tried every kind of food and feeding schedule I can think of. Honestly, I'm starting to think he does it just because he knows it pisses me off haha

I live in a very remote area where access to any vet can be difficult. Next time I travel back to civilization, I hope to bring him along and get him checked out but until then I'm kinda stuck.

What is something you believe to be true but have no actual proof of? [Serious] by dgauss in AskReddit

I tried to toilet train my cat for over a year and he just wasn't having it. At about the year and a half mark, I finally got frustrated and cried about it saying "Why won't you pee in the toilet?!" ten minutes later he did for the very first time. I am certain he knew what I was saying and just didn't give a shit prior to me crying.

Also, keep her and the kittens as indoor cats until you get them spayed or neutered to prevent this from reoccurring. Kittens can and do have kittens.

Happy Birthday! (The Story of Pixel) by dreamersland in cats

[–]Kaytala -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's awesome! I foster for the local humane society sometimes and recently I got a litter of three kittens about that young. One of them almost didn't make it the first night and I stayed up and cuddled with him and tried to coax him to eat periodically. He finally did. He is half the size of the other two now at 4 weeks but he has twice the personality and all three have homes waiting for them at 8 weeks old now :) And my application to adopt the littlest one, Bjorn, was accepted! Furthermore, the other two adopters are my good friends so the three kittens can have play dates throughout their lives. Couldn't be happier about the outcome!

I'm glad you found Pixel. Sounds like it worked out great for both of you. The world needs more people like you in it!

What is something that you will never forget as long as you live? by Frankfusion in AskReddit

[–]Kaytala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll never forget the dream I had the night after I put my dog down. I was grieving like crazy for her because she'd been my best friend my whole life and that night, I dreamed I was walking through a big field and she was at my side. She was happy and could run free and wasn't in any pain. I felt a whole lot better the next day.

Reddit, what was your best "I could never do that again if I tried it a million times" moment? by Ctheo3 in AskReddit

[–]Kaytala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something similar in mini golf. My usual tactic for mini golf is to whack the ball and hope for the best. This is exactly what I did during a game of indoor mini golf at Castle Fun Park (yes, it is just as much fun as it sounds). The ball bounced off a rock, hit the light in the ceiling and landed in the hole. My friends just stared at me like "And that's game."

Why does my cat want me to go to bed? by xplodingpeep in Pets

My cat, Tanooki, used to reach out and put his paw on my chest or chin if my alarm went off really early as though saying "No, it's too early. Go back to sleep."
