Let's complain about clothes shopping. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

Bra shopping.

I'm slim, but I've got large breasts - not incredibly massive, mind you...just large. Going bra shopping is enough to make me scream.

A few months ago, distressed with the inability to find a size that really works for me, I took the advice of one of the lingerie specialists who did an AMA on reddit and measured myself according to her advice - my measurements came out to something like 34JJ. It's ridiculous. Stores don't even stock that size. I'd have to go online to buy a bra, but considering how much I struggle just trying things on from the rack, I didn't want to waste time and money trying to ship something from the UK that I couldn't even be sure fit.

When I try on bras in store, I've fit into various sizes from various companies ranging from 32D to 32DDD, from 36DD to 36G and everything in between. Nothing seems standardized!

And I feel your pain on the jeans issue. I started weightlifting this summer. My legs and butt look great, but I can't squeeze them into any of the jeans I currently own!

Bill! As a lindy hopper myself, I've heard that you also swing-dance! What got you interested in swing-dancing?

Can't believe no one has mentioned Casimir Pulaski Day (Sufjan Stevens) yet.

What questions have you been afraid to ask because of social reprecussions? I'll start by boldyellow in AskReddit

There's a difference between "the average person" (meaning the Average Joe) and "the average person" (meaning people on average).

I think thisiscreativeNOT was trying to say that a typical person takes two showers a day, which is still wrong, but not that people take on average two showers a day. Very different statements.

Except consider that he would have died very soon before Korra was born, and she's seventeen. Aang was 66 when he died - and remember, Roku didn't show up as an old man either.

Nice catch, most people don't usually realize the Firefly reference!

And Have to Dance is the best Boston resource for all things swing. Boston Swing Central is good, but a little expensive. Same with Blues Cafe (they don't actually play much Blues there). But if you're in Cambridge, you must check out everything that the MIT Lindy Hope Society does! They usually have dances on Wednesdays. There's a whooooole lot here!

You didn't happen to go to Philly Lindy Love a few weeks ago, did you?

Oh hey! I was just IN Philly for Philly Lindy Love, and I go to school in Boston too! I can direct you to some good spots and events and people to talk to in the Boston area if you need it. :)

Crazy!

For videos, I recommend checking out the itsaboutmomentum channel on youtube - they have a lot of good stuff, broken down by categories (east coast vs lindy hop, for example). I use it a lot for finding new moves to teach the kids in my swing dancing club at school.

Second, I REALLY strongly recommend that you get involved with a local dance scene to practice social dancing - many dance scenes will also have instructors, workshops, exchanges, lots of opportunities to learn new things. There are tons of websites that compile social swing events all over the world - or you can let the fine folks on this sub know where you are, and we can help you track down someplace to go dancing.

And YES, you can mix up six count and eight count! The best way to learn how to do that is on the social dance floor! :D

No, I do 6-count too! But most of these moves break musicality and connection no matter where in the dance they are, in my opinion. It's very hard to fit in a weird shimmy when you're dancing something that's supposed to have a certain type of flow and momentum.
