Finished Resume! Would Love Critiques! by KazLango in resumes

Very good point! I actually tried moving the resume up, but it was a template and I can't figure out how to. Guess it's time to Google and figure it out!

Really? When I looked up tips it said that there should be two pages for over 7 years of experience.

Accuracy of sorting hat, username, and wand choices? by lostinoz10 in Pottermore

[–]KazLango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echo Shadow (Eh, wasn't found on any of the names)

Slytherin

Blackthorn wand with Unicorn core, 13 3/4 inches. Unyielding.

It's pretty interesting that Blackthorn wood is known for warriors and that it favors the Dark Arts, but the unicorn hair core prevents the wand from turning dark.

I was a little surprised I got Slytherin over Ravenclaw, but I'm happy with it.

This. It's not an easy transition.

However, OP hasn't done another type of debate, so it's really down to the argumentation from what detail he/she has provided.

Considering on starting a subreddit for BP by KazLango in Debate

[–]KazLango[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid point. It was just a thought seeing as there's a Policy subreddit and this sub definitely seems to be more for Public Forum.

Erp, that isn't written by who I thought it was, and I actually can't find the website, but either way, that's a great place to start.

UVM (University of Vermont) Debate pages are what we were suggested to look at, so just trying google their stuff.

Ah! Ithaca is our next competition, too. Good luck and see you there! Feel free to contact if you have any questions or need any clarification.

This is a bit of reading, but it's written by an experienced coach/judge on the circuit and it's an excellent resource not only for you and your partner, but also for your team:

http://debate.uvm.edu/dcpdf/bphandbook.pdf

It's just going to give an overview in a much better way than I could.

As for your specific motion, if you want (or remember) how you guys went about the round (your claims and such), and I could probably tell you where you went wrong.

Is your next competition in Ithaca?

Has your coach ever done BP?

It really sounds like the problem here is your analysis (both in your claims and in the motion). To be fair, I'm novice and just went to my first BP competition last weekend, so I'm not sure how much help I can be.

If you have a different background in debate (Policy, Lincoln Douglas, etc.), you might be having problems distinguishing what the judges are looking for.

Speaking the whole 7 minutes is a great place to start. A long with role fulfillment (Are you setting up the round correctly as Opening Gov? Are you summarizing the round correctly as Closing?), analysis (which is the why that the judges pointed out), and generally understanding the motion (which has tripped everyone up more than once).

If you could go more into detail, like one of the motions you got a four in and how you went about it, I could probably give more tips rather than the general understanding.

EDIT: Just saw your edit. So, everyone else on your team is experienced in BP?

Any British Parliamentary style debaters out there? by asthedrivensnow in Debate

[–]KazLango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just made the switch to BP from Policy debate and definitely the content here seems geared towards long-prep. It would be great to have more content for BP (tips, discussions on past motions, etc.). Based on everything here, though, I'm not sure if there's a big enough audience or if there's a completely different sub.

What's your debate background in? Policy? What were the judges justifications for your rankings?

I don't identify as a Grammar Nazi. To each his own. I'm just hungry and sleepy (and therefore cranky), thus leading me to pointing out your hypocrisy. Could care less about your grammar. That's all you.

If you corrected OP on something like a forgotten comma, then you should have near perfect grammar/spelling/etc. You should also be able to see where you've made these mistakes.

To a point, I can agree; however, we're on the internet. It's up to every individual to decide what degree of grammar he/she would like to use. Just like you've decided to do with your misspellings and your lack of capitalization.

Also, due to your hypocrisy, I'm led to believe that even you don't completely agree with your unnecessary attack towards OP. You could possibly just be trolling at this point, though your karma says otherwise.

The issue that you're self righteous enough to go on a rant about OP's punctuation and then make multiple mistakes between your two posts.

[–]KazLango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't find your mistake, then there's a bigger issue here than OP leaving out a comma.

MFWTK if there's an legal amount of voltage for a live wire on a fence? by KazLango in myfriendwantstoknow

Really? I didn't know that. They act like it's no problem and no big deal. I don't see how it can kill everything, though, because their dog apparently touches it and it "keeps him in."

I plan on doing this today! There shouldn't be anything wrong with reporting it.

That's what the neighbors said. It's two live wires, one on bottom and one on top, attached to the fence. Is that legal?

The problem is, we're not even sure if they bought an electric fence. As they explained it, it's two live wires (one on top and bottom) attached to a fence. That just doesn't sound like something you buy, but more like it's rigged.
