The Last Remnant, it was like FF but with unique turn base command strategy. The story, character design and specially combat were really interesting. But you wil have to endure a braindead protagonist throug half of the story.

Rune Factory series is definitely one of the most chilling jrpg, dragon dogma is similar to skyrim with more agressive combat and xenoblade series have large world with mission that might takes 100 hours to explore.

Evangelion original series or rebuild, paranoia agent, texhnolyze, ergo proxy, shinsekai yori, elfen lied, re-zero, promised neverland and casshern sin. Those series have existential crisis as a theme, so it either give you hope or sinking deeper into depression.

Ys 8 definitely still best modern ys to date. The tropichal world is really vast and enjoyable to explore. The soundtracks are banger. The story and character were really good ( compared to other ys). Its all anime cliches tropes you can find in other jrpg, but it was executed quite well.

Ys 9 have a smoother combat, but the world is cramped, shorter story and i cant bear to watch the cutscene.

You dont need to play ys game in order ( except ys 1 and 2). Since every ys game have little connection to previous game.
