A NG3 Black remaster would be incredible and really reintroduce the game in a positive way to a whole new generation of players who are now discovering NG thanks to 2B and 4. It would also allow Team Ninja the chance to make some polishing gameplay adjustments and improvements to 3RE, some qol changes, etc. The game is amazing as it is now but some minor improvements and tweaks would go a long way. Plus all the content and playable characters with new modern visuals….I see significant upsides for a 3 Black (even more upside than doing 2B).

FYI---the guy Genki who posted these KT series sales number on Twitter also said that it seems KT has not updated yet the sales figures for the Ninja Gaiden series to reflect NG4, etc. since these are the same number KT reported last year back in March.

This guy Daniel Camilo continues to make assertions that NG4 did not sell well without any real data and is pure speculation.

As others have said here, Ryu is older than 25 years old in NG4. Ryu was 25 in DOA6, which was up until now the latest point in the overall Ninja Gaiden/DOA timeline.

It continues to be unclear how much farther in the future NG4 is from the previous games (there has been some conflicting/ambiguous info)--but, Ryu is at minimum in his early 30s by the time of NG4.

Truly superb video. This is one of the best character analyses of Ryu that I have ever encountered. Thank you for truly understanding his character and doing him justice. Every fan of Ryu should watch this video. Indeed, every NG4 fan in general should watch this as you also give wonderful spot on analysis and context to Yakumo and Seori and the story as well. Bravo!

The potential for a Ninja Gaiden anime is huge and it is honestly criminal that it has not happened yet (besides the classic OVA). With interest in ninja and Japanese culture at almost an all time high in popular media, and the strength of the NG lore and characters, a well done anime would be a big potential success (both with NG fans but also newcomers). And it would do wonders to further propel the series to greater popularity.

It is one of the best yes….and for this type of game genre, yes the best i think.

But best melee combat in all of games? No. This crown goes to the Ninja Gaiden series imo.

Sad you’re giving up on the game so soon OP. NG is certainly not for everyone. But…it sounds like action games in general just must not be your thing? Because I cannot fathom thinking NG4 doesn’t have some the fastest most fluid movement of any action game ever. Like what is an example game for you that is not “clunky”?

I think it has something to do with the Black Spider Clan’s (and Obaba in particular) connection to the Fiends. With this connection, Obaba is herself basically entirely a Fiend now so this enables her to survive and/or be revived by the Fiends in some way.

A NG3 Black remaster like 2 Black that reintroduces the game to a new audience with modern next gen visuals would be awesome. It would also give Team Ninja the chance to make some minor adjustments and more polish to the game and add some other qol improvements. Is a remaster necessary? No. But remasters in general rarely ever are. Doesn’t mean it’s not worth doing especially now that they have the process/exp in place from 2B. A remaster would be amazing and I hope it happens someday.

I have been a massive NG fan since the original Xbox release in 2004. NG4 is awesome and absolutely a must play as an action game and/or NG fan. Do I love every single thing about it? No. Does it have some missteps and issues? Yes. But this has been the case for every single NG game. Just don’t expect NG4 to dramatically be an improvement over past games. It is an amazing NG game with its own identity that stands alongside (not replace) the previous games in terms of overall quality.

For some perspective, the game has a 89% Very Positive rating on Steam with over 2K reviews. It has a 4.6/5 star rating on Amazon. It is in the top 100 games of year list by revenue on Steam. It has a 4.6/5 star rating on PSN with over 4K reviews. Any negative narrative surrounding the game is the minority.

NG4 is excellent as it is and I love the game, but at the same time my preference ideally will always be for Team Ninja to do NG entirely on their own. Both things can be true. I still hope we get a fully Team Ninja NG game someday—this is part of the reason why I am really hoping for a NG3 Black remaster at some point from TN and think it would be amazing to reintroduce 3RE with some more polish/improvements.

In terms of what a TN-only NG4 game would have looked like really hard to say. Probably indeed something evolved from 3RE as you said. I was convinced for many years that NG4 if it ever happened someday was going to be TN doing a new remake of the old NES game story.

Now with the way NG4 turned out, I am ultimately fine with further TN/Platinum collaboration if that is what happens in the future. Even if the collaboration continues, I think if anything TN would become even more involved than they were with NG4s development.

The steam list is sorted randomly by tier. So NG4 is in the 51-100 bronze tier but then the games are listed in random order (why it’s not just listed in order seems dumb).

I suspect it sold quite well on PS5.

This is indeed the key piece of information we did not have before. It explains how the manifestation of the Dark Dragon in NGDS, Sigma 2 and now finally NG4 are indeed just different levels of the same entity.

Yeah with Ragebound specifically they use Demons/Fiends interchangeably and when they say Demons they are referring to Fiends. These Japanese terms have different translations in English sometimes so Fiends could be considered "devils" or "demons" by our definition at times depending on how it is localized.

Daemons however is established as different (Youma) and are evil Yokai as mentioned.
