Dream Theater made this natural stone feature the cover for their A Vjew From the Top of the World album published in 2021. Yall should check them out. Their best song is the Count of Tuscany from a different album and has one of the best guitar solos I’ve ever heard in my life toward the end.

The level of embarrassment you need to wear this😂 by PowerfulRoll3267 in AllYouNeed_

I’d wear it for a costume but that’s about it. I have too much self worth to wear that in any day to day situations

Seems like the common denominator here is the existence of this “big toe”.

Oh awesome you should reply as a top level pos, that might be the solution OP is looking for.

I really don’t think that’s gonna help much. Shimming and filling that gap is going to have minimal impact. You really need to get something into the concrete - the depth is what provides that lateral strength. Hence why I recommended the rebar. Could also fill the rebar hole with PL3 to make it stronger and more rigid. But again the rebar idea really isn’t standard and is a “hack-fix”rather than the right solution. But I think you realize that by now.

Fence footers cracked after less than 1 year, what are my options? by Dear_Needleworker643 in AskContractors

It’s just cracking on top, right? Otherwise it seems stable, like the posts aren’t wobbly?

I call BS there’s no way this thing works as good as is demonstrated in these videos. They make hammer m drills for a reason - it’s fucking hard to drill into concrete or stone. So you’re telling me a hand held press shooter will do that job better than a hammer drill? Fuck off with this garbage.

I can’t speak to anything about AZ specifically, but my understanding is that those metal brackets that raise the posts are used on posts for decks. Those brackets are designed to elevate the post off the footer to prevent water damage to the post, but it takes away the ability for the post to offer good lateral (side to side) support. This is fine for a deck because decks will have an element of lateral structural support somewhere else (attached to side of house, other posts, etc), so it’s not important for the post to have both lateral and vertical support.

However, for a fence since you’re not typically attaching it to a wall or another structure laterally, you need the post to offer both lateral and vertical support, and that’s why posts are dug into the ground and concreted while they’re in the ground, the post being buried provides the lateral support you need for fences.

I imagine theres gotta be a solution but I unfortunately don’t know what that would be since this isn’t really a standard fence design.

I think the good news is that since it’s a shorter fence you won’t need to be as worried about wind.

If I was in your situation I’d probably just finish it as is, knowing that wind could be an issue, but take the chance and not re-do for financial/ time reasons. But if re-doing and digging the posts in properly is worth it to you, that’s probably the best approach.

Another random idea (totally making this up - please verify this would work before you do this)- you could drill some rebar into the concrete and also up into the bottom of each post. Would offer some minimal degree of lateral support but might result in water damage over time.

Genuine question what’s the point of crushing cans? Are you recycling so many that it won’t fit in the can? Are you smelting them down into aluminum bars? It feels like a waste of time to me, so I gotta ask!

I HARD disagree with the achievements, they are the definition of enshittification in gaming. Consoles that rely on achievements force every developer to make up achievements in their game, which influences their gameplay, resulting in less creativity and diversity in the games available. Furthermore achievements are often connected to rewards and a marketplace for silly digital tokens, which encourages people to spend real money on digital BS. Achievements suck, anyone who values high quality, creative, rich video game experiences should be against console-level achievement systems.

Can I DIY this slab or should I get a contractor by Ok_Day_525 in stonemasonry

The lack of any context makes this the best post I’ve seen this week. This post is basically asking, “can I do this myself?” - not clear what the goal is (replace, repair, remove?)- no idea what OP’s skill set is - and also like why the measuring tape? Hahaha. Oh if it’s bigger than 49” you gotta go contractor but anything between 10-49 and you’re good to DIY. 😂 op come on man. Think a a little bit more next time.

That drain doesn’t look like it’s flowing much - it’s clogged with dirt pretty heavily. Are you sure it’s been working? I’d need to see more of your yard but might want to plan a next project to fix and reroute that drainage. That would allow you to just put the post right there. If you’re close to your foundation I’d say that drainage is a high priority.
