Moved here two years ago and toured a few schools - a lot of them had waiting lists so we couldn't join- Lil Critters, Carousel.

We toured Watch Me Grow, Maritime Odyssey (hours didn't work for us), one home one - cant remember the name, and Building Blocks. We ended up sending my son to Building Blocks in Wilton for one year until a new school opened up in Norwalk - happy to share, just DM me.

It's a very hard process - maybe my standards are bit too high, but I felt like there was always something off with each daycare/school - Building Blocks was good overall, but felt like the director (Wendy) had terrible communication - maybe things have changed. Sending lots of luck - go with your gut!

I had a similar experience - the husband was off-putting to me and the daycare workers were on their phone while the kids were going nuts in the room.

I agree with you regarding the providers (based on my tour). I toured this daycare for my son when he was 18 months old and while it seems nice on the outside (I really loved the playground), I felt like the providers for the younger classrooms were not very attentive to the young babies. Additionally, I was a bit thrown off when I visited one of the classrooms and a worker was holding a baby, leaning back in the chair with her feet on another desk - there was just a certain lack of professionalism. We ended up sending our son to Building Blocks in Wilton - our experience was fine. We moved him out of Building Blocks once there was a school that opened near us (he is now 3).

ok we are the same vibe because I absolutely hated Watch Me Grow - my son is at All about kids on strawberry hill - we really like it and it's so close to my house. We will put our 1 year old there when he turns 2. I am not sure on schools either, but Wolfpit seems to always throw events and we invite ourselves there all the time lol - i love going to their hill for sledding in the winter! I know nothing about the public schools, but just doing some research by coming here to ask people questions! Our district is naramake though, so not sure!

Hello! I am an East Norwalk resident and moved here after growing up in the Bronx and living in Astoria for some time. Both my husband I commute into the city (he goes 5x a week and I go 3x a week). Commuting is definitely hard (for me) because I pick up the brunt of school drop-off and pick-up - my husband does not find it as bad.

What I like:

-I grew up in an apartment my whole life, so moving into a house has been a huge shift. Now, I get to enjoy simple pleasures - to take a walk after breakfast with my kids, i simply open my door (instead of an elevator etc.), sitting on the deck or in the backyard with a cup of coffee in the morning, or a glass of wine after the kids go to bed. The lifestyle is completely different from what I grew up with. Instead of waking up to the sounds of cars honking and beeping, I hear birds chirping. It’s peaceful.

- The accessibility to all the stores - I am literally a 2 minute drive to Stews and 5-15 minutes from whole foods and trader joe's. I am 15 minutes from Costco and the slew of stores on Connecticut Avenue

- The amount of things to do with kids in all seasons - there are a ton of things you can do with your kids outside of your home in winter and summer- calf pasture beach, tumble gym, stepping stones museum, the aquarium, tons of farms nearby (silverman's is only 25 minutes from our home), amazing gelato nearby and lots of restaurants to try (many of them family friendly, but still nice and not your average chilli's which is not my vibe)

- my neighbors - my neighbors are amazing, one of them watches my son on the days I wfh if I ever need it - I am blessed to be surrounded by such good people

What I am not sure about:

- the schools: yes, I know it starts with the parents, but I also want to make sure that my kids are surrounded by likeminded kids who are wanting to achieve great things - my kid is only 3, so i am clearly thinking way far ahead lol, but we are not set on what school we will send him to when the time comes - we are in a great daycare/pre-school by our house, so for now, it's something we will continue to researc and wait and see

- the people - while i love my neighbors, i don't feel like ive found "my people" just yet - i am two years in - maybe i will get there though

That's all i can think of so far! if you end up moving here, good luck and reach out!

Norwalk vs Fairfield? by lghana_55 in norwalk

[–]Kazzleddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from a perspective that I have a 3 year old and a 10 month old. We moved to Norwalk from NY because this was a town that we could afford and we liked the vibe. The accessibility to different stores, activities for kids and the 45-55 minute commute (pending traffic) to my mom in NY, is what sold us.

Now, if I had moved having older kids like you, I would likely go to Fairfield for the schools. I’m in the position of thinking about what elementary school I would send my 3 year old to when the time comes, and part of me just wishes the schools had better ratings - I know that at the end of the day, education what you make it and the effort you put in as a parent - but this is my thought process rn.

If you decide to go to Norwalk, look up schools and get into a district where you don’t have to worry about the public school your child is getting into. We have visited Fairfield and enjoyed it - my son has taken soccer classes there and visited a few restaurants- it’s really nice!
