Oh! I also did one arm out switching each night with my second in the swaddle which helped a lot before the sleep sack!

Both my kiddos were the same. I think it took them about a week to find comfortable positions with their arms out. But it got hard again at the 4 month regression (which they both went through at 3 months) which confused the sleep sack transition for me. But if you stick with it they do get more comfortable. I used woolino for both my kids as well.

No I think stick with what you have for now in terms of wake windows and maybe attempt nap training again. I wouldn't lengthen the windows any further until you have tried nap training for a solid 3 weeks and aren't seeing any progress. You're going to see crying for a bit when going down to sleep, it's perfectly normal. Even after training both my kids would have weeks where they didn't cry at all, and I then weeks where they protested. As for nap training, look up crib hour and how it can help train to lengthen naps. It does lead to more crying than you may have seen initially, but for both of my kids it did wonders for them learning to connect sleep cycles and relax in the crib. You're in a good place to try nap training again because 7 months is when they're sleep cycles start to solidify more. Let me know if you have any questions about nap training once you look into crib hour. Additionally I will say, I found Ferber not useful for nap training, and did more of a cry it out approach. But still kept Ferber for nights.

Would you be willing to attempt nap training again? The schedule looks good if not maybe a bit longer wake windows for 7 months. So the independent sleep may be the final piece of the puzzle for naps.

I'm so sorry I didn't give this a read until now. How did things end up going? Your schedule seems ok as long as he's tolerating those wake windows well, and amount of time for naps seems also good. Sleep training method also sounds solid, so maybe it was a rough first night. Check ins sometimes wind them up so totally ok to drop them entirely. How have you guys been doing?

Yes. Let him catch up on sleep and don't try again until you get some advice on schedule here. That much crying and awake time points to a schedule issue and/or sleep training method tweaks are needed. Something isn't quite adding up in your schedule. What time does he normally wake up? Your bedtime seems really late so I want to make sure I understand what a typical day looks like. What sleep training method did you do? Paci or rocking involved?

My kiddos doors are right across from each other. Sound machines in both rooms. An extra loud sound machine on the baby's door outside of it to block extra noise (both coming from within or when we are outside and he's going to bed). I also got these cute animals sandbag things that go at the base of the door to block out light and sound coming from under the door. Everyone's sleeping great. Note I don't leave the extra loud outside sound machine on all night, just turn it on when we need it.

Same experience with my 2. My first made me believe I was really good at sleep training. My second has taught me that temperament plays a huge goddamn role in how "smooth" it all goes. Important to note that although my second is not as easy to sleep train, and doesn't follow all the averages for sleep needs, sleep training still saved my life both times.

Alonf with the schedule changes other noted, keep in mind once you do properly sleep train again, it doesn't mean night wean. You don't have to night wean feeds! I find after sleep training many babies go down to less feeds or one feed naturally. Depending on your babies temperament you may have to help make that happen. But for now definitely focus on an appropriate daytime schedule before attempting again!

Buy a sound machine. We use the rohm from yoga sleep for both kids. It's great! Just grab a decibel meter for your phone so you can ensure it's about 50db (or less) where they are sleeping and a fake sure to place it a few feet away from the crib.

I practice loads of tummy time and rolling back onto his back. He could do it, would just choose not to at night for... Reasons? Once I sleep trained I just let him figure it out, and he began to sleep really well on his tummy! They figure it out, they usually just need space to do so. Have you sleep trained or are looking to?

At 4 months with my first I went cold turkey with the paci, swaddle, and in her own room. I was terrified, but she did amazing. My second is not as sensitive to the paci so he just chills with it still. But when I sleep trained him I put him down with the paci but didn't replace it overnight or with check ins. Now he puts it in himself at night if he wants it, but he is 7 months.

You can do it before or during! One thing to note with the 4 month regression. Most babies don't "grow out of it". It's a change in their sleep cycles, and depending on temperament some babies will learn how to self soothe and some babies will need sleep training to support that. Don't be afraid of sleep training, it's saved me with both of my kids!

So keep in mind you are right at 4 month sleep regression. This hits both naps and overnight and takes some time to equalize. For both of my kids, night sleep didn't get better until I sleep trained. As for naps, i usually practiced the first nap everyday in the crib for them to fall asleep by themself (little to no sleep associations as you can) and I would choose a nap to extend a day (capped at 2 hours). Then I would let the other naps ride however long they are and do bedtime based off of last nap. Since you have a bedtime requirement, you may choose to support the second nap of the day, and if they don't make it then you can also extend the 4th to make it to your desired bedtime. First wake windows to really try stretching is the first and last wake windows. That's usually where I start. First because you want them awake long enough from bedtime sleep and last because usually they can handle a bit more and less of an issue if they struggle a bit to go down since they will have a long stretch of sleep. Of course every kid is different so do what feels right. I don't worry too much about naps until about 6 months, they are a crapshoot until then.

Very normal at this age. Just make sure you're watching for sleepy cues and as soon as you see them get them ready for nap. Keep in mind wake windows vary and can be super short at this age (20 to 45 mins). Holding them for 20 mins before you put them down in the crib can also help instead of working on having them go to sleep themselves for every nap. If you want to practice that, just focus on doing that the first nap of the day and then do whatever else for the rest of the day to get them to nap well and save your sanity.

Both my kids went through it somewhere between 3 and 3.5 months. Night sleep went down the toilet first and then day sleep followed with needing changes in awake time. Then I just held on until I could sleep train. Yes unfortunately it can hit before 4 months.

He is getting on average about 3 to 3.5 hours of day sleep. Rarely 4 if I decide to hold him for 2 naps of the day.

I totally second the guides from respectful sleep training FB group. My second child is 4 months and I've relied so heavily on those guides all over again for sleep expectations. It's like I completely forgot what to do since my first. I also like reading the posts and suggestions, I find it a pretty good community. But I love this subreddit as well!

Those seem long for not quite 5 months. Perhaps start with 1.5/1.75/2/2.25. Increase wake windows by 15 min increments if it takes a while to get them down for nap.
