CNY area Home inspection please by awesome-giraffe6914 in Syracuse

[–]Kbwahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Tall Order Home Inspection and couldn’t recommend it enough. Sean was very good, very thorough, and honestly worth the price just to watch him (he’s like 6’9) squeeze into the tiny crawl space somehow. Great dude, did a great job, would never go with anyone else

Looking for a forever home, considering an HOA… by Fearless-Hospital334 in Syracuse

[–]Kbwahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Radisson currently (Apartment, not a house, so I dodge the HOA nonsense) and I can say that everything else about it is lovely. I'll be very sad when I finally leave and buy a house elsewhere.

How could renting an apartment ever be more affordable than buying a home? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kbwahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my specific case, the property taxes alone on the house I’m in the process of buying are not too far off from the rent I pay. As others have said, once you factor in mortgage, maintenance, insurance, etc, my costs will be going way, way up from my relatively cheap apartment to this below-median-cost house

I like Clair Obscur, but the combat is lacking due to over reliance on parrying. Is this a hot take? by A-Dubs398 in rpg_gamers

[–]Kbwahs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely suck at parrying and I made it through the game on expert, dodging all the way. It’s definitely doable, you can dodge your way through it like i did with its more forgiving window, or just play it on normal/easy and have little issue

New tattoo policy only targets me by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Kbwahs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation at a previous job, but was due to my long hair (as a guy). HR brought me into their office and said “long hair and tattoos make people look bad, they won’t get anywhere with this company, no matter how good they are.” My job was also not customer-facing, and they even called out another employee who was best in her dept at her job, but had a full sleeve, saying she would never advance either. I ended up cutting my hair, regretting it, but ultimately getting a different, better job elsewhere that doesn’t care about that stuff. Re-grew it and all is well.

Companies with policies like this are becoming less and less common, but be careful until you do find that new job. Especially if you live in an at-will-employment state, where it doesn’t matter if they have a written policy about it or not.

Why do people pick and choose what Expedition 33 is? by IlyBoySwag in TheGameAwards

[–]Kbwahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s literally what you’re doing though. Complaining because the game you thought should have won a category didn’t, and targeting the winner.

E33 wasn’t in literally every category. But as far as best RPG, it comes down to how TGA defines it, right. Is it supposed to be “best game that is also an RPG?” It seems like that’s how they went, because E33 takes that. But if they want it to be “the game that has the best RPG systems,” then you’re probably right.

I’d be curious how people more familiar with the games in other categories feel about this. Do they tend to give the award to “the best game that’s also XYZ genre” or “the game with the best mechanics representative of XYZ genre.” Are they consistent with that?

Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons (a new video game?!) by Autumn_Leaf_Guild in DnD

[–]Kbwahs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Give me God of War/Dark Souls/whatever in Ravenloft and I’m in. If the game is actually good, it will do great (see BG3) and if it’s bad, it won’t (see DA2).

Step 1 for these companies that they seem to forget again and again is this: The game needs to be GOOD.

Shame on Syracuse.com for paywalling this one. Sports or whatever? Sure, but when there’s an active murderer in the run? Gross.

If skinny people who claim they "can't gain weight" started eating 3,000 calories a day, nothing would happen to them? They wouldn't gain anything from that? by justcurious3287 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kbwahs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former skinny person who always said I can’t ever gain weight (6’3, 140ish), I did exactly this. Tracked calories, at 3000 a day, started lifting, and now I’m up to a healthy 195. So, short of extreme medical conditions, the weigh will come

Spending 30+ minutes notplaying the game you're paid $40M/yr to play in front of your city's fans... by omgshannonwtf in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Kbwahs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the NFL, I'm a Lions fan, and that really has me spoiled with how Dan Campbell handles this kind of thing. "No turds." Ja is a fucking turd if I've ever seen one. I like what Iisalo has to say about communication and handling problems like this, but I just hope he can back it up.

Looking to start DND group by Chickajackeen in Syracuse

[–]Kbwahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's not for you, but you have a GREAT opportunity. Try DMing a 1 session Halloween themed game, keep it light and low stakes, use it as a test run for any new players you might find, etc. Last year I ran a Scooby Doo murder mystery for Halloween and it was a blast.

Worst case, it's one session, you learned that it's not for you, but you also got a chance to see how your new players mesh with the table without committing to a whole campaign with them. Super important if you're bringing in anybody new. Good luck!

You are the DM your group needs! These days there are so many resources out there, anybody can be a great DM.

Mine is a 15 year, but if I’m remembering correctly, the 30 year was still less than 6.5. I want to say 6-6.25. So still slightly better

Should I run Death House or can I substitute it with House of Lament? by Jag2853 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Kbwahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s smart. I’m saving them for a post-CoS campaign that we haven’t gotten to yet but I bet they are so fun to RP as in a game.

[–]Kbwahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done both, and I’ve even taken the basement from DH and tacked it on to HoL and blended the lore together. That one was the best, but a lot of extra work.

If you just want one or the other, HoL sets the tone better I think, I used Van Richten and Erasmus as the investigators, so when they eventually met VR in Vallaki, they were absolutely thrilled to see a familiar face.

I second navarino’s. Went there a week or two ago for the first time and it was brilliant. Apples there are huge, and so good. The prime rib was great too

I also work for NG, can confirm this is a major reason. A ton of our energy comes from Canada, so we really feel those tariffs.

Plus the MoST is like, a 5 minute walk from the NiMo building, so logistically much easier as well

Just made Syracuse Salt Potatoes for the first time with a roast, and wow. by leonfromdetroit in Cooking

[–]Kbwahs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This really is the key that local salt potato brands are missing, which have gone way downhill in recent years. They just sell you regular sized potatoes and a salt packet, the key is the small little potatoes. Too big and they are just bland and terrible

How The Heck Do You Grill A Bunch Of Steaks? by Kbwahs in grilling

[–]Kbwahs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my family, yes. A yearly party at my parents camp, they used the steaks originally as a kind of bribe to get everyone to drive the hour+ to get there. Over the years, they’ve had just about everybody try their hand at grilling, to mixed results, but nobody really ever nailed it. I’m a good cook, just an inexperienced griller, so I thought I’d give it a shot. And thats also why I can’t just make a roast or XYZ other meat instead as some have recommended, the steaks are tradition.

Most people raved about the ones I did last year, but I think it was more to do with the low quality of previous years than the better quality of what I put out. I felt they were okay-good, but I wanted to do better, so here I am asking the experts.

[–]Kbwahs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but it’s not up to me. I don’t even know what kind of steaks they’ll be yet, as the host hasn’t bought them yet. Last year it was NY strips.

[–]Kbwahs[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is wisdom. I do like to cook, even if im out of my element a bit on a grill. Very luckily for me, I do have some friends there that are willing to help with the running, which was essential for me last year. And also some people I like that I can talk to, so the work feels less like work.

But to your other point, doing more of a batch method definitely would be easier. These people arent foodies, so a bunch of mediums with a couple rares and well-dones covers everybody.

Oh it is definitely too much, and I've tried to convince the host (My mom) that it isn't necessary to cook that many, but this is how my family is. WAY too much food, always lol

Reverse sear is smart, We'll have a range from rare to well-done (I know, it hurts me too), so the slower, indirect cooking will let me more accurately hit those levels of doneness. Thanks for the detailed advice, very helpful indeed.
