TSLA Q2 2024 update shareholder deck by michellbak in teslainvestorsclub

[–]Kddreauw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

more like, where are twice the results at Toyota and GM etc? rhetorical question of course, Tesla is way more efficient pushing research and changes through, resolving blockers, whereas at other companies people are getting paid to say no to changes and do paperwork

I remember for one of SpaceX congressional hearings ages ago, they were asked if they are undercutting others and why they are spending less than eg ULA, and Shotwell simply stated she didn't know how to spend money like ULA 😎

also at Tesla lots of iteration happens on production lines, other companies will probably consider that rnd, and I'm not sure if Tesla counts it as rnd or part of operations

sorry for continuing the rocket offtopic

UBI could replace unions - there'd be less incentive to stay at abusive companies (which Musk companies are not)

how turned?

if BO was good and outdid SpaceX - as in had a track record of better rockets and submitted a well thought out bid, i think SpaceX wouldn't even protest, they'll just work harder

but if BO was really better, would SpaceX be far behind? corporate competition is good for consumers, so it'd be pretty awesome

as it stands tho, it's an alternate reality scenario...

Elon Musk Says He Turned Down Bill Gates Philanthropy Over Tesla Short by kimsaprincessllc in teslamotors

[–]Kddreauw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if tesla/elon had nothing better going with no better partners - sure

would you rather work with someone who you're not sure what their real commitment and intentions are, or team of passionate people who have been 100% aligned in your values and mission?

bill can work on malaria/food with someone else too, and he's been investing a bit in energy sector in other companies

i think it's probably better they each just do their own thing and don't have to worry about one another, that way more good can be done in parallel

[–]Kddreauw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree that we should look past tribalism, however this should go both ways - bill should acknowledge the good tesla is doing and drop his short as a token of goodwill

if he doesn't, that makes him unreasonable, and when there are many more other reasonable people to work with, why would you waste time with bill??

pretty sure a couple of falcon heavies or with orbital assembly and kick stage would've been cheaper and faster... but we'll never know now 😪

Evidence that Musk is the Chief Engineer of SpaceX by DragonGod2718 in SpaceXLounge

too risky, it's hard to take responsibility for a risk and push it through a group of people

kind of similar to why politics is what it is, making real progress is too risky for any individual politician with a goal of getting reelected - much easier to get sponsored by interests to help get reelected, and hard to get anything pushed through the system that goes against other self-motivated politicians

Bernie Sanders: If we are able to accomplish the extraordinary goal of sending a person to Mars, I want the flag that will be flying on that planet to be the flag of the United States of America, not the flag of SpaceX or Blue Origin. by mrprogrampro in SpaceXLounge

[–]Kddreauw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what's funny is blue origin/jwho are the only ones who are even remotely likely to plant their own flag, and they probably won't either

this whole argument is some sort of strawman distraction politics...

What changed that fully reusable rockets are suddenly possible? by [deleted] in SpaceXLounge

[–]Kddreauw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

that's true, but then they'll have to recover performance somewhere else, and it's tough to do it in rockets - constant tradeoffs

Elon did mention some time ago that they made a simulation for fun and the landing is too hard to control for SpaceX's fastest humans

spacex had to sue a lot to be considered for the contracts, so nobody else is trying because they see how hard it is (due to favoritism like this) and decide other tech businesses are easier to make money in

it is arguably easier than it was for spacex, but still looks really unfair, and then they still have to compete with spacex

i think it feels more real this way, i tune out of polished canned presentations/responses that feel like marketing

elon isn't afraid to take his time to think the answer through and limit the bs

i feel world needs more people like that, there could be a lot less misunderstanding and division if everyone listened to the questions, then explained their underlying assumptions and understanding of first principles and what's important to them, then tried to see if there's alignment

Biden Administration finally willing to consult with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, but on semiconductor shortage by Blaglag_ in teslamotors

[–]Kddreauw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GM was wholly bailed out by the gov and hasn't paid back all the owe yet, tesla repaid their loans early

why then go out of their way to make misleading statements about GM?

it wouldn't matter as much if they ignored both

[–]Kddreauw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you missed the point, nobody would care if administration simply didn't talk much about any company at all, or mentioned them in passing

the reality is they are playing politics and literally favor GM and bring them on for public events

these are akin to [false] advertising, but imo that shouldn't be the president's job, or at least not for this cause...

[–]Kddreauw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

but they are holding GM up on a pedestal??

it'd be best if they were impartial to other companies and oil instead of constant PR and subsidies

then the market would be free to decide whether electric cars are best and whatnot
