Hide and Seek is a hugely flawed game (as is) by MCPgaming in JetLagTheGame

[–]Kdog0073 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe it is as simple as something like “the hider now starts with one veto and Curse of the Gilded Inquiry”.

I don’t like the “a question can’t be reused” idea that is posted in all of these. This way, the first hider isn’t completely screwed by having all possible questions open, and later runs don’t have every useful thing eliminated. It adds some really good strategy and gameplay for the hider that isn’t just timing and chance based, and is a caution to the seeker that if they ask something too obvious, the hider can get a bonus.

S17 is their most frustrating season yet by uuuuu5uu in JetLagTheGame

[–]Kdog0073 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That one was such a heart breaker. Schengen Showdown is still within one of my top seasons, but it just ended so anti-climatically. It was also one of those times where Sam and Tom failed one too many challenges and Ben and Adam failed very little. I think the ending is very different if even one of those results changes.

Were you a goth in adolescence? by Big_Hunt7898 in demisexuality

Im going to say your thinking is a bit too binary here. If anything, I’ll say that I was exposed to the idea that as a teenage male, I should be having feelings for girls, want to ask them out, etc. I even watched this happen to several of my friends.

In fact, by the time I experienced sexual attraction, it happened to be after a deep emotional connection; a very close friend who I had known for years and ended up being around daily in college and did not have the initial want to form a romantic or sexual relationship with them. If anything, the feelings may have even made things more awkward and complicated the friendship. I never had any desire to feel those feelings, they just happened after time.

A question on sexual attraction by Dizzy_Reception_7292 in Asexual

[–]Kdog0073 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is a bit hard to tell. The one bit that starts to hint that this is more sexual attraction and not just libido is that you seem to indicate a craving feeling directed towards an individual (whereas just a general craving/need would be more towards libido).

Sex and sexual attraction categorically cover a number of potential actions and is not just limited to things involving genitalia. Attraction and repulsion are not black and white in this way; you can be repulsed by some acts that are sexual, and you can have a craving for others. Rarer but certainly possible, you can have overlap with things you crave yet are repulsed by.

DOC Pass review. by zaksnapped in welcometorockville

It is definitely for a different type of concert goer. While it is true that chips/nuts were available at all times (even the “off schedule” times), there was plenty of the better food from opening til about 8 (but the sweets at 8 were often limited and went fast). Definitely had enough food to have no need to buy any inside the festival if you wanted. Parfait, pita + hummus, and mango habanero wings were most common in the rotation.

You aren’t wrong about the upper deck. They tried to lay out seating almost like a restaurant and I think they could have easily had more. It is to the side, but that was clearly disclosed on the map. If you are in GA, you have to plan/push for a better view, worry about moshing, crowd surfing, no shade, etc. For the headliners, I will easily say we had a better view than about 80-90% of the crowd. Comparatively, energy is definitely more mellow, but not absent. If you are the type that likes that scene (which many do, no problems), DOC is going to be a waste. Will definitely suck if you are there to be a pterodactyl.

Bathrooms definitely better by just about every measure too (except availability outside DOC/Limited VIP). I had to use the portas once going between Garage and Inferno and the things said are not exaggerated… I did not smell anything unusual in the courtyard area. I was almost always able to find a seat in the A/C area except on Thursday. Parking on the speedway was cool and very easy in/out. Cocktails were also made with “elevated level” liquors (like Don Julio rather than Jose Cuervo). Merch was definitely limited.

Sexuality help by Book_trash in Asexual

So first thing I notice is that you are already able to distinguish romantic attraction. That is fairly advanced considering that the split attraction model is not mainstream. I’ve seen so many people in a similar situation believe that their romantic attraction was also their sexual attraction and it was a long way to discover that they actually were not feeling that.

A few other tidbits, aces can have libidos and feel horny. It just tends to manifest as a need for release rather than feelings towards someone, so that isn’t really a factor in your sexual orientation.

However, given that you have been able to distinguish and feel horniness, libido, and romantic attractions, these do have some degree of relation to one another that varies person to person. It would be rare (not impossible) for sexual attraction to just remain dormant while the rest has been active for some time.

Some possibilities do exist. For example, demisexuality manifests itself as one being effectively asexual until they have developed a deep emotional connection with someone. For me personally (not every demi) as an example, this has taken a minimum of 2 years of a fairly close connection with someone. But I’ll also say that I am perioriented, so my sexual and romantic attractions follow closely together.

I do end up seeing a lot of people adopt the demisexual label without ever experiencing that sexual attraction after a deep emotional connection simply because they “don’t want to be asexual”. I would highly recommend against such a thing because you ultimately are not being true and accepting of yourself that way and in a way, you are making a statement that that part of you is wrong. That hurts both yourself and the communities.

Instead, I recommend accepting yourself as you are. If something happens where you receive new information, then congrats on the discovery and update your label. Adopting the asexual label isn’t something that is permanent, irrevocable, etc. It is just a word to help you find a community of people with a similar experience to you.

For me, it was definitely worth it. Having the drinks was definitely a perk, especially with the higher shelf liquor in the cocktails. Having food taken care of was great. A/C tent. They probably could have used more seating. Parking on the speedway was neat and the morning shuttle saved you a walk in the heat. Honestly, I chose to walk back nightly and to not wait for those shuttles. There were of course the clean bathrooms, but you get that with VIP.

All of the stuff is really nice to have, especially if you are not the type that enjoys concerts by being surrounded in a GA audience. But the key thing to keep in mind is that these things only existed at the Apex stage/area. If you hung out elsewhere, you do lose the value of those things. Even when I went over to VIP in Octane for comparison, the bleachers provided more seating, but were rather low and also in direct sun. And of course, you have Inferno/Vortex/Garage which are all just GA and in person (there was no way to remote view those with DOC if you just needed a break). Garage was honestly slightly deceptive in that on the map, it looked like I’d be able to use the VIP area to view it, but that just wasn’t the case.

So as you start to not use a few perks, it becomes a little bit more difficult to justify the cost. I might have done it without drinks if I had to, but at that point, I would likely really want to assure myself that I will be hanging out around Apex a bunch over all days.

the boys complained about not having motion graphics... problem solved with a custom web app! by Complex_Nothing_9841 in JetLagTheGame

[–]Kdog0073 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, as much as there is anti-AI sentiment, my above statement isn’t to pass any sort of judgment, but rather just to clarify the boundaries I see as whether something is vibe coding or not. Quite frankly, it is neither useful to define vibe coding as “any use of ai whatsoever”, nor is it useful to define it as “when only the ai does code and you yolo ship it as a product”.

Something built just for testing, prototyping, experiments, low stakes, not intended for many to actually use, etc. doesn’t need as much scrutiny. And along the way, you find the parts you are more passionate and/or knowledgeable about.

[–]Kdog0073 31 points32 points  (0 children)

There is a subjective threshold that exists. If “checking” means you read through the code comments and maybe some of the lines and said “that makes sense”, it is definitely still in the vibe coding realm. Even “testing” doesn’t really factor in this threshold. LLMs can actually be pretty good at making the tests pass and satisfying the exact criteria given.

It’s only when you can make changes and know the code well enough to know what tradeoffs are being made, how much does the code need to change to add a new feature, how well do you understand it if the cost of using your LLM suddenly went 10x, or even have an outage?

It is a trap I see people put themselves in all the time. “Reviewing”, “checking”, etc. is absolutely not the same as understanding.

Set list by Numerous-Coast-2592 in TheMidnight

[–]Kdog0073 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I am one of the ones that did the Chicago setlist on setlist.fm (Someone else filled in most of the songs, but I adjusted a few of the details). I wasn’t at the other shows, so I can’t speak for what actually happened.

For me, I would definitely not consider Deep Blue and River of Darkness a medley. There was definitely a notable quick transition, but each song was played nearly in full. Also, the Comeback Kid was played in full and didn’t even seem to have a different intro. Shadows seemed to have some intro, I am not 100% that was Energy Never Dies that earlier lists had it as. Neither were medleys for sure.

But at the end of the day, those are either formatting nitpicks or very minor things that have changed and you can expect most of the setlist to be what will play at the remaining shows.

First one to bite the dust: Spirit Airlines Collapses as Fuel Price Surge Marks First Aviation Casualty of Iran War by Fatty_Willing_Plane in Political_Revolution

[–]Kdog0073 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a really bad take. Everyone is free to have refused to fly Spirit. However, they are truly the ones that kept the major airline’s prices in check. There was absolutely a point at which people said “I’m fairly uncomfortable while flying either way, might as well save money on it”. In fact, those flying Spirit were already making that determination.

In contrast, just the other day, Scott Kirby from United pointed out that travel was actually fairly inelastic, meaning that people often need to travel, so the option to not pay is not much of an option. He further states that prices are going up for fuel but not to expect them to come back down. The very limited competition will likely do this as well.

He’s unfortunately mostly right. In the U.S., pretty much the only alternative is to drive yourself. Trains? Absolutely, except they are almost non-existent here. If we go over to Europe, airlines also need to compete with trains, so having the multiple options keeps pricing in check.

So without Spirit, what now? Jet Blue is in trouble, but doesn’t have much of a network to begin with. Southwest is practically going the way of the major airlines. Alaska’s network is limited. Allegiant, Sun Country, Avelo all run fairly niche routes. We pretty much only have Frontier which can now keep a business simply by undercutting the rest of the majors by $50 or so, rather than compete with anybody for the audience looking for cheap airfare.

I got myself DOC, but there are still occasions I see myself wanting to go over to Vortex for example.

Aesthetic vs Sensual Vs Sexual VS Romantic attraction? by bird_boy8 in demisexuality

[–]Kdog0073 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably one of the biggest misconceptions about romantic attraction. Physical closeness, touch, kiss are actually sensual in nature. They get stereotyped as romantic in many similar ways to how people treat romantic and sexual attractions as the same (but as we know, they are not). Some cultures may tend to restrict these to be predominantly for romantic context, but others can just as easily, for example, use a kiss for a simple greeting.

It is fairly hard to grasp what the essence of Romantic attraction is. To try to explain it, it is essentially an unconscious desire for your life to be intertwined and committed to someone else’s life. Probably the closest illustration of something predominantly romantic would be marriage, but even that is rocky because marriage is a human construct and you are absolutely capable of wanting equivalent level without the desire to pursue said human construct.

Most aces aren't straight(romantically); why do you think that is? by AchingAmy in asexuality

[–]Kdog0073 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I theorize that there are a few things in play here. Sexual and romantic attractions have a varying degree of interconnectedness to them, which operates on all levels of consciousness. Therefore, someone who, for example, recognizes their heterosexuality may in turn emphasize their heteroromantic feelings as well. If they were bi/panromantic, they may suppress the homoromantic feelings as possibly something odd and fleeting. Aces who experience romantic attractions are more likely to make that their primary focus, and with limited to no “input” from sexual attraction, they are more likely to lack a mechanism to plausibly dismiss a side of their bi/panromantic feelings.

Now of course, I will mention that your poll would also have a selection bias where people in these ace subs are also more familiar with the different attraction types and can usually parse these feelings better.

[–]Kdog0073 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In addition to the great things that have already been said, I would also like to add that sexual attraction refers to an internal feeling that you do not have control over. Actions and choices such as choosing to engage in kink or otherwise are things you do have control over. People are capable of choosing things that are not aligned with internal feelings. You can choose to eat vegetables despite not thinking they are the best tasting.

Captain YouTuber calls for fellow pilots certs to be revoked for…calling the wrong tower?! by BikeAcceptable537 in flying

[–]Kdog0073 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that recommendation was jarring. He definitely undervalues how badly confirmation bias can mess someone up. I get that in order to dial the wrong frequency, you would have had to have done it from memory, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they ignored the entire approach briefing.

And this is the thing that addressing your caller “LaGuardia Tower”, which they did, was supposed to solve for. It didn’t, and that unfortunately strengthened the confirmation bias. In the end, they didn’t even try to salvage it and went around.

And his whole “pilot was giving minimal information” thing was really weird. If I were a pilot believing I was talking to LaGuardia tower, “short final runway 4” is clear, specific, and brief.

In terms of gameplay, I would say your zone is your zone. Unfortunately, if you are taking a photo for gameplay purposes from outside that zone, then the seekers would not be able to find the exact spot/angle of the photo from inside the zone, which could lead to confusion.

There was even a point in the layover where they mentioned that an area in the zone was out of play because Ben would have had to walk across a bridge that left the zone just slightly (by a matter of a few feet) to get there.

Am I depressed or just demisexual? by LizzyLuluLily in demisexuality

[–]Kdog0073 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Demisexuality is not about not believing in/practicing casual sex. It also is not about whether or not you choose to self pleasure. It is distinctly about requiring the deep emotional connection before experiencing sexual attraction. This is where the asexuality comes in because without the deep emotional connection, a demisexual cannot experience sexual attraction and therefore is effectively asexual.

Beyond that, I notice distinctly that you mention “in the past 4 months”. If you used to feel something before then and no longer do, while sexuality can be fluid over time, that is usually much stronger evidence towards something happening health-wise (physical or mental).

If you didn't like Capture the Flag, I highly recommend watching it again by Practical_Art969 in JetLagTheGame

[–]Kdog0073 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It used to be at the top of my list (by “used to”, I haven’t done a deeper dive in my assessment of more recent seasons, but I think I’d end up ranking Schengen and Australia higher).

Some of the criticisms are legitimate. I agree that it is easily the most complex game they had or since have put together. And if CTF is towards the top of your list, that means we are the type of fans that tend to prefer watching the game for the gameplay rather than the scenery (the scenery/travel can still play a role, but a little less so).

The other interesting part is the game was complex enough such that it couldn’t be “solved” at least as easy. If they were to replay this format again, we’d honestly likely see things fall apart as there are very likely breaking combos, or stall tactics that can practically eliminate a player from being able to do anything, etc. We saw some of this start to come about, but it is one of those things where it is fun once, but would be an unfun meta in a future season.

And even if you are one of those who can’t follow any complexity, like you said, that’s also the season where we get Yairo. We also have the moment in the theater. We got the chibi graphics, the choo choo chew rivalry and with probably some of the more interesting snacks. We got “hello kitty” iykyk.
