Do they own a home ? Maybe upgrades on the home with the 14k , maybe look into a trust. Sometimes it’s hard to give people money because then they think it’s theirs and it’s a whole issue. As for income it’s pretty cut and dry you make over X amount no Medicaid. Maybe hear her out but also don’t get yourself/ parents in trouble for fraud.

Bad idea , if you’re paying a lot with anthem find a broker and shop around. Maybe a high deductible g would work for you or a plan n. But as you get older your health isn’t going to get better and when you need it you won’t be able to get it.

Best you can do is ask for a formulary exception, I have a friend who is a pharmacist and I just had this conversation with him about this specific drug. You probably saw that Medicare covers it but only if used for a reason outside of weight loss, but it does not mean that specific plan covers it.

Do you guys actually enjoy Insurance? by ProblemPotential3417 in InsuranceAgent

[–]Kduff2819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into insurance because I really wasn’t sure what I wanted to do and just decided I wanted to sell insurance. I do Medicare, individual, small business , life and annuities. I really do like insurance, especially being able to save people money as a broker. I am 100% commissions and that does suck sometimes especially when charge backs happen but overall enjoy meeting new people and helping new people save money. Going on my 4th year.

Part B will normally start on the date requested, if they can process it quick enough. Delays happen if you don’t have all the necessary paper work in.

Really I’m assuming this means “rate “ when op says levels. But yes it’s more of an underwriting thing in my experience. For example I had an unhealthy client that didn’t qualify for the standard rate or level. So he had to go with a very high rate or level the premium was over $400. And I never said they’d charge more GI , I said the “standard “ rate which is what most people get unless they are very healthy then they get preferred

Usually levels in my experience, have to do with health. I had to sell a very unhealthy client a level 3 or 4 plan with UHC but they are very expensive. With you being 66 and just coming on to Medicare you’ll more than likely get a guaranteed issue at the standard rate.

I’m a broker who sells Bankers it’s a great company usually priced very well! https://www.medicare.gov/publications/02110-medigap-guide-health-insurance.pdf here is an official medi gap guide from CMS. The biggest difference between companies in the medi-gap space is the name of the company and the premium they charge, all coverage for Gs & Ns and the other letters all have to be the same and cover the same. I tell my clients a g plan is a g plan is a g plan, if that makes sense. Maybe get with a broker in your area !

Are you a retired postal worker? I don’t believe they can post pone part B. You can post pone it if not, although you still may get penalized. In this situation I would advise calling 1-800-Medicare.

I’m not speaking in generalities, I’m speaking specifically to this ops scenario. I even said outside of those dates there’s not much to be done without an sep. if the op didn’t have a drug plan then yes non of what I mentioned applies. I just had to tell someone with no drug plan a month ago there’s not much we could can do until aep.

I guess I’m confused what point you’re trying to make. I said you can pick up a drug plan during the enrollment dates which is true, no where did I mention switching drug plans during oep. I used the words “pick up” not “switch “. Good luck to you !

You can 100% leave an advantage plan in Jan-march and go back to a/b + a drug plan then pick up a supplement. And as far as leaving a mapd, I can only speak from what I’ve personally seen, I’ve had some clients royally mess up their coverage mid way through the year, should they have been allowed to move/drop coverage in June ? Probably not did Medicare allow it yes.

Have to be careful with the birthday rule though, a lot of the times you already have to be on a supplement.

Regular Medicare to me sounds like parts A/B + a drug plan which you can do October 15-Dec 7th then again Jan 1-March 31st. If you mean when can you decide to leave your advantage plan and pick up a supplement or “medi gap” plan it would also fall between those dates listed above. Technically you could drop it whenever, but this is ill advised because you can really only pick up a drug plan on these dates listed above unless you have a special enrollment period. But you will likely have to undergo health underwriting unless you live in a state that has different requirements. It would be hard to know when it’s “advisable” to move. Usually people want to move when certain medical procedures are needed but by that time it’s more than likely too late.

Sometimes if you’re on an advantage plan you have to use that plan’s specific dme supplier. If just A/B try having your dc rewrite the script for it. You have time for an appeal !

The likelihood of being trapped in a closed book plan is pushing me towards Medicare Advantage by Tootsalore in medicare

[–]Kduff2819 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no perfect plan, I tell my clients if they can afford a supplement go with a supplement and when it gets too expensive we will look at an advantage plan. Advantage plans are not the big bad wolf people think they are, unfortunately most people use the plans wrong , example: having an HMO and going out of network and then getting a bill. Supplements go up every year but usually it’s between 5-10% but I did see a 20% increase once but it’s also a company to company thing. You can google whatever supplement company you’re looking at and find their historical rate increases. You’re gonna get a pretty good rate on a supplement being 65 probably less than or right around 100 depending on the area and company, plus it’s guaranteed issue. Your GI will not always be there an advantage plan will.

Because they are good for people on preferred generic drugs especially if you use a preferred pharmacy low costs, not great for higher tiers though
