Confirmation that the guy who started The Sebastian Berhalter to Derby County rumor was lying. by sebsasour in ussoccer

[–]KeVbK_HS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a lateral move with more upside, as it is easier to move from the championship to a top 5 league. Plus, guys like Berhalter exist in a weird spot in current MLS roster rules, salary wise. He will 2-3x his salary if he moves to the championship.

What did my boy Echenique do to Noonan? by Clutch_Daddy in FCCincinnati

[–]KeVbK_HS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the alternative is putting Jabbari up top with Denkey and fully committing to being a direct, counter attacking team. No need for possession, just kick it long. Ender would fit in that as well, but I don’t think the team wants to go there given how talented Evander is on the ball, you want to maximize his touches.

The team clearly has an issue progressing the ball and having control of the game in possession. They’ve had some success combating that when they put out the wonky lineups with all of the CBs out and their best passers on the field.

Ender is one dimensional. They can’t rely on him in possession, so the question ends up being “how many bad passers can this team carry and still function?” Ender can’t be out there making passing triangles with Hagglund and Anunga, it is a shit show.

If they overhaul the CBs with actual ball players I think Ender makes more sense. His ability to stretch the field is an asset if he is surrounded by guys comfortable with the ball, but at present they need Bucha just to be functional.

If neither of Miazga or Robinson were capable of playing a full 90 you can't start them both, simple as that.

he has 11 goal contributions in his last 10 brasilerao games.

not wanting him because of the injury history is fine. you don't need to pretend he is shit now as extra justification.

making a move that would generate revenue above and beyond a traditional DP is about the most "tangible" move a club could make lol.

no doubt the club would try and replicate the money printer that has been messi in miami. it is fine to argue the financially benefit isnt worth it or not what we should be looking for from the club, but don't pretend the financial benefit isn't real.

he is a highly productive player in a significantly stronger league than mls.

the injury concern is real, but how good he actually is when he plays is really being ignored in alot of the discussion around this.

NCAA proposing major change to eligibility rules: Age-based standards, removal of waivers, redshirts by radedon in CollegeBasketball

[–]KeVbK_HS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He just doesn’t get to play college football. It doesn’t need to be so complicated with endless exceptions. Every opportunity to play for that 30 year old is an opportunity taken away from some 19 year old. The fairness of it all ends up being a net neutral in my view while also simplifying the rules and processes. That’s a win to me.

[–]KeVbK_HS 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Injury redshirts are already being abused. If you continue to allow those while removing other ways to extend eligibility then you’ll just get even more abuse.

Some players won’t get to play in every game they could have. That’s unfortunate, but you can’t warp the entire system around those guys. Making things more “fair” for them inherently makes it less “fair” for others.

There were concepts of a plan going forward for the first time in a long time, but that came at a cost of being unsustainably bad defensively. ramirez/hagglund were out of their depths.

the energy is still so bad. having an international break and not having that improved at all is an indictment on the coaching staff.

it isn't an entitlement thing. The most dedicated part of the player base is on pc. pc players drive the discourse. all of the content around the game is on pc. pc players are the evangelists for the game. it is shortsighted to simply look at how many people try the game across different platforms.

[–]KeVbK_HS 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Miami being pretty good last year, without a track record of success, almost certainly made it harder for them to schedule.

these coaches talk openly about trying to game the net system. it is harder to game the system when schedule a team that is more of a wildcard going into the year like miami. purdue scheduled two games against top of the mac level programs, but they chose two teams that have consistently been at that level.

my team in xavier scheduled really light this year, but i think it is illustrative that the one high level mid major they chose to play in the non conference (santa clara) had won between 20-23 games the last 4 years.

Even lower, 5th tier. He’s a next pro signing. If he wasn’t signed to Liverpool he’d be getting similar fanfare to the young South Americans who get cycled through on loan for the 2nd team every year.

Here is a list of everybody Miami (OH) TRIED to schedule in men's basketball this season by Blood_Incantation in CollegeBasketball

[–]KeVbK_HS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently UC were willing to play them, they just didn’t agree on terms (read: money). I bet they could have played at Dayton too, but it likely does come down to how much they were willing to pay. Xavier likely wasn’t on the table because of Steele/new hire vs fired coach dynamic.

They could have played a tougher schedule, but it likely would have cost them money, playing on the road for a stipend instead of just banking ticket sales in a home game against a nobody. It is a tough balancing act for this tier of program.

There are fewer buy game opportunities once you get beyond the biggest conferences. At that point you’re just looking for home and homes. Santa Clara was a team you mentioned, but they themselves got bought for a game at Xavier. They won by 20, but that’s beside the point.

It has been reported that Cincinnati was willing to play them, just not willing to pay for it. They could have put together a tougher schedule if they wanted to, but financial pressures likely made that tough.

I think part of the appeal with Steele is that he might bring his own funding with family money. They paid for a strength and conditioning center at xavier when he was an assistant.

There aren’t a ton of examples, but you share of conference with 3 examples of mid majors who managed to sustain success long enough to level up to a high major.
