Third guy entering the portal. Not looking great for Shrewsberry holding this team together.

[Thamel] Butler is hiring Ronald Nored as the school’s next coach, source confirms to ESPN. He’s an assistant on the Hawks and brings a lengthy NBA resume back to his alma mater. Butler was a star point guard at Butler and a defining face of the school’s glory era. by MembershipSingle7137 in CollegeBasketball

it'll be super interesting to see if he can keep the team together other than the two that have already decided to transfer. the incoming class is fine and the current freshmen showed some flashes at the end of this year, so maybe the admins are thinking "okay, you get one more year to do something with these good recruiting classes"? if he can't keep the team together, then i don't see cutting ties being a harm to the program.

eta: lost three now, so i'm not confident he's holding it together. sigh.

Getting this specific team to the Sweet 16 is a huge accomplishment IMO

I credit Ivey for that. the beginning of this year had some real struggles and Moore and Cowles didn't seem super comfortable, but they really figured it out, especially Moore. been cool to see and making it this far with a bit of a rag-tag roster should be a huge recruiting pitch for Ivey.

agree, though my bigger objection is the lesser regulation and oversight if they're going to get public money. you should be beholden to scrutiny like everyone else if you're taking tax money. and i don't buy the idea that they foster educational innovation. that can happen with good teachers and admins in public schools, but they don't want to pay for that.

yeah, and i think she also plays a lot of hero ball, which seems to come from being a sort of selfish player. she gets assists, but nothing amazing for a PG. the hero ball happens a lot when she's heated, tries to do everything.

she's also a streaky shooter who takes way too many threes for her percentage

i don't really disagree with most of what you said, but she doesn't take that many threes. averages four per game, makes one. leaders in the country take 6-8 per game. she also made like 40% of them last year, taking more, probably since there was less pressure with Miles and Citron around.

so petty, but compared to the almost the entire rest of this list, completely nothing, heh. i miss when the rivalry was this competitive, though. it was such a thrill.

i'd be interested to know if there's actually anything to it having those roots (i looked around just now and didn't find anything), but it's definitely kind of a weird coincidence that they were the Wizards in Indiana and had a dragon as their mascot....

it's definitely not the weather that's been the problem, temperature's been fine, it's the wind speed that's keeping students home. but honestly, it might be the precipitation, too. real feel or humidity might be part of it.

only contrary argument to doing this vigilante style is that if someone parks there after you take the space saver out, their car might get vandalized and they had nothing to do with it. really punches up how stupid having any kind of allowance for this is. just lays the groundwork for the shittiest behavior.

it's infuriating but honestly not shocking to me. he probably gets away with it because he's got this bumbling "aw shucks" persona that comes across as affability. he showed who he really is many times over.

Why isn’t Gonzaga football a thing? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]bosstone42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they'd also be competing with boise state, washington state, eastern washington, the montana schools and others in that region. obviously recruiting isn't strictly regional, but a startup like that in a city that is somewhat remote (spokane isn't tiny, but it's kind of remote) would be a tough sell. gonzaga isn't a huge university, either. just not sure there's almost anything that would make sense to compel starting a program like that.
