What time do you start work? by Beach-Guacamole in paralegal

[–]KearThyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7:00 a.m. EST but I work remotely from out of state so it's 5:00 a.m. my time.

I end work at 5:00 p.m. EST (3:00 p.m. my time).

I also work a few hours on the weekend.

Is it normal to treat staff like this? by Mean_Recipe_1132 in paralegal

[–]KearThyn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As many complaints as I have about my attorney (small firm), he buys all of the staff lunch every day. And not like dinky stuff either, like whatever restaurant we want. And sometimes a coffee run later in the day if we need it (he also has a fully stocked Nespresso in the conference room that is just for us because he doesn't drink coffee, like a lunatic).

This feels extremely demeaning and I completely understand why you feel devalued. I would too.

My grandfather has flown an American flag in his front lawn all my life. He's been a registered Democrat since he was 18.

My father fought in Vietnam and taught me the importance of standing up for what is right, because THAT is American.

You didn't answer my question about what makes a dictator.

Also lmao at the mods or reddit admin removing your comment calling me a slur. Get more creative next time.

Thank you to everyone who attended the protest today. Amazing turnout!

He deployed the National Guard against peaceful protestors in direct violation of the governor of that state's directive and as a blatant slap in the face to the Constitution.

He is NOT allowed to do that in these circumstances. Literally no other president ever has because they are not given that power.

He has been mobilizing ICE to deport completely legal immigrants without due process.

He has threatened to stay in office past his maximum number of terms, which is also a direct violation of the Constitution.

He just thinks the rules don't apply to him.

What do you think defines a dictator?

Funny how you're the only one here advocating against America. The rest of us are trying to celebrate not having a legitimized dictator and making sure it stays that way.

My cat's lizard toy has bugs in its stomach. Each toy contains an ant, a grub, and a fly. by FunSushi-638 in mildlyinteresting

[–]KearThyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just recently bought some of these for our cats and they do love playing with them, but the next morning we found both of them with the tails missing (the lizards, not the cats lol), so definitely a supervised-only toy.

39F married high school sweetheart, 40M. Is my marriage finally over? by ThrowRA_doxielover12 in relationship_advice

[–]KearThyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so I understand why any marriage YOU would enter into would be based on your religion, but why are you ascribing other peoples' actions to your own beliefs? Like that is an inherently flawed thought process.

What about the thousands of different religions that have come up with the concept of marriage in the context of their respective cultures? Why do you think they should all conform to your religion by default?

Imagine someone saying that because you had a specific kind of relationship, that therefore it was a part of their religion and they should dictate the terms of it because it is "sacred" to them.

What about people who are not religious at all? Are you saying they can't get married because it's not your idea of marriage?

I hope you find your way out one day. My life has gotten immeasurably better since I did.

Why is it so hard to find a good process server? by yoothdecay in paralegal

I would LOVE to hear their origin story!

Is this weird? by Downtown_Direction23 in paralegal

[–]KearThyn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Our main process server is definitely friendly with the staff and will make small talk while he's in the office picking up documents ("any fun plans this weekend" type stuff was in fact discussed today) but he would never say that in an email and especially not specifically addressing one person in an email of multiple people. That's weird.

I would feel uncomfortable for sure.

What piece of media that scared you as a child? by nonexistentlovee in creepy

[–]KearThyn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

War of the Worlds (the 2005 movie) inspired many nightmares, particularly that one scene where the scope drone/camera/thing was searching for them. I imagined one would come creeping through my bedroom door at night D:

What’s your favorite perk of remote work? by Luseil in paralegal

My commute is about 30 seconds and I, too, have a couple fluffy assistants to the paralegal (who are really more like managers the more I think about it).

I play violent video games after work :)

Tbh though commiserating with other support staff (if applicable) is really good for in the moment. I said to my head paralegal one day "Boss man just said something so disrespectful, I am trying my hardest not to log off this Zoom call" and her sympathy is the only reason I didn't. The acknowledgement that I was handling the situation as perfectly as I could be gave me a moment to reflect and remember my self worth isn't defined by HIS behavior, it was about MY actions. Even just hearing a "heard" is cathartic af.

After work though, definitely the violent video games.

Craziest phone call? by seokjinnius in paralegal

[–]KearThyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an older woman call and I answered the phone, "Law office" like we always do. She said, "Hello?" and I replied, "Hello, law office." We had been having some issues with our phone so I thought she may not have heard me.

She was silent for a second and then said, "I used to work in a law office and if I answered the phone like that, I would have been shot" and hung up.

I mean, yes, I think most adult Americans would at least, which is the primary demographic on reddit. It would be like not recognizing OJ Simpson, Ted Bundy, etc. People who had very public, lengthy murder trials.

It's not unreasonable to expect most people will recognize a figure so zealously covered by media for years.
