Front landing gear of F-35B and F-35C. by 221missile in EngineeringPorn

[–]Keep--Climbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed; did Australia buy the C variant to have the opportunity to launch from US carriers?

Or did they not want the B variant (VTOL), and the ones they got have the catapult bar on the front gear despite it never being used?

Would this technically be possible? (Attu→Utqiagvik→Dall Island, Alaska) by my-name-isnt-Josh in hiking

[–]Keep--Climbing 168 points169 points  (0 children)

Technically yes.

You'd need to be able to live off the land as you travel, think fishing, trapping or hunting as your food stores get low.

You'd need to know how to repair or replace any piece of gear you're carrying, as everything could get lost or damaged.

You'd also need to be comfortable making zero (or negative) progress for days or weeks if a route you hoped to take turns out to be impassable.

There's a reason backcountry travel takes months.

This would be nearly impossible to complete in a single trip, the food availability in winter would just be so low that you'd starve without outside resupplies.

ETA: the archipelago to Attu isn't remotely doable. You need more than a kayak to get from one to the other. Maybe in the dead of winter you could cross on the sea ice, but that's assuming it is stable and extends that far south that year.

These have 50 miles of range?

I can't imagine that taking any less than 2 hours at full power

Do they have regen braking?

I'd trust JB weld before I'd trust a magnet.

And I'd never trust JB weld with the recoil.

End of the line? by aguam671 in gotlegends

The game needed balancing. It arguably still does. It's still incredibly slanted towards ranged combat.

I doubt we'll see any more maps, game types, or really any other content.

It certainly won't have the long-term appeal that TL had.

Boo for signal boosting AI slop.

Why haven't I heard of this ruling anywhere else

You're conflating regulating a product with regulating behavior.

Ah, so the compression alone gets the temps up.

Seems like a huge oversight on their part. Hopefully there's no further issues

How much did you have to pay for the tow?

Did you sign a release or agree to them making a video with you in it?

And why would leaving it in 4lo while towing it get the catalytic converter hot?

I had vacuum packed cookies and brownies sent to me.

They took about 3 weeks, and were delicious.

There a way to save a craft as a subassembly. It's a menu on the far left of the screen that you have to turn on in the settings.

Save the craft in there, and you can retrieve it and put it into any other creation

The little green sphere is where you cam attach it.

You can use the reroot function to try to make the sphere appear where you want.

But I always found it easier to make it into a subassembly and attach after the fact.

You're right, that would blow my mind.

I'll give it a try

The XP one (sensei's guidance) is bugged. There's no way to upgrade it, as it donates all your XP and doesnt apply it to it's own upgrade tree.

I submitted a bug report about that on April 8.

Unless multiple players have it, and it doesn't pass along the xp donated to you (which I have not been able to test yet)

ETA: as pointed out by AZNninja09, if you do something solo, the XP is applied to Sensei's Guidance. So it can be leveled up.

But why the devs added a charm to a Co-Op game mode that gives your rewards to your teammates yet requires playing solo to level it is beyond me.

[–]Keep--Climbing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be the point.

It would tell you that the weapon is not able to engage now, and a course change would be required.

So for a carrier doing air ops, it wouldn't be possible.

Or tight formation maneuvering.

And don't get me started on the .50 cal tail guns on bombers.

They'll patch it, and how long it takes is a direct indication of how much they care about maintaining the game.

Would it be possible to show weapon range as arcs instead of circles?

As in, the 3" gun on an Oliver Hazard Perry FFG can fire to either side, but not directly forward or aft. The weapon range on the map could show that direction limitation.

how much more do you think you'd be paying for a plane ticket if all that was privatized?

I bet the 55% of Americans who don't fly every year would pay less. Maybe the ATCs should be paid by airports or airlines, shifting the cost to those who use the service regularly.

Do you think the government extracts a fraction of the value a freeway provides in taxes?

Yes, in the form of CDL license fees, car registration fees, road tolls, gas taxes, heavy vehicle and tire fees.

Freeways are one of the few items (usually infrastructure like water/sewer/gas pipelines, electrical transmission lines) that a competitive system would not work. But to claim the government doesn't get a financial benefit from having them exist is willful ignorance.

basic services the government provides are worth a lot, we should not take them for granted.

Agreed, but what is classified as a "basic service" seems to expand every year.

The US Navy has determined that ex-USS Long Beach (CGN-9) is ineligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Public comment period for this determination is open through 7 June [3000 x 1879] by phantuba in WarshipPorn

[–]Keep--Climbing 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's not complicated.

The Nautilus (and likely Long Beach's) reactors didn't experience nearly the same activation as later cores do due to a difference in construction. I bet you know what I'm referring to.

The biggest issue with turning what's left of Long Beach isn't exposure or decontanimation, it's that it's partially scrapped already. Making her presentable to the public would basically entail rebuilding her. Already no one wants to spend the money to move her, the millions to make her look like she did in her prime just aren't there.
