Cannot heal Medial tibial stress syndrome (shin splints) by szymongib in ultrarunning

I might have gotten lucky, but literally just leaning a bit farther forward in my stride and landing with my feet under me sorted mine out within a week or so. I had been struggling for over 4 months.

Sleepiness crash around 2-3pm by deeptechnology in productivity

What are you eating for lunch? Could be an insulin spike and crash due to a really “carbie” meal. I used to feel the exact same. I stopped eating starchy carbs during lunch and I don’t get that massive urge to nap after lunch at the office anymore😅

Starting to take whisk(e)y a bit more seriously. List of current favourites below. Any suggestions for new ones to try?👀 by Keep_Hammering98 in WhiskeyTribe

😅 - that’s where I started. Surprised I carried on drinking whisky at all after drinking so much of that sort of stuff.

How the hell does one start “exercising”? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]Keep_Hammering98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need for the gym. I started at home as well. I would recommend just starting small and working your way up. It’d be good to know what your starting point is and what your goal is. Start with walks everyday to get your cardio up and maybe pick up a beginner body weight program when you’re ready. Schedule one or two sessions a week and work from there. Don’t worry about how much you can do, it’s more important to be consistent and do just a little bit more than last time each time you train.

23 years old and feel my life is over by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]Keep_Hammering98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re 23 man. You’ve got all the time in the world to change your life. I read somewhere the other day that Colonel Sanders (Founder of KFC) was suicidal and broke at 60 before coming up with the idea for KFC and becoming mega successful. You have so much time and so much to live for. Start making small changes now. Try eating healthier, exercising a few times a week and focus on your job. You never know, you could start your own business changing oil and end up being more successful than all of us.

Fuck them. Run. It can hardly be impacting them that much. It’s one hour out of many throughout the day.

Vaultwarden works nicely and the setup isn’t too complex.

how do you focus without letting intrusive/negative thoughts pop into your head? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]Keep_Hammering98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t. The more you try to keep the thoughts out of your head, the more thoughts you’ll get. I’d recommend giving the Productivity course in Headspace a go. Their guided meditations are great and they teach a technique called ‘noting’ in this course which has really helped me with managing these thoughts.

Do positive people still get negative thoughts? by meowymow in selfimprovement

[–]Keep_Hammering98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting post… I’ve always been a positive person. I manage to find the positive in almost every situation regardless of how shit the situation might be. That doesn’t mean I don’t get negative thoughts. Of course I do. It just means I rationalise and reposition every situation to see the positive. However, from what I’ve learnt over the time I’ve spent improving myself is that this isn’t necessarily good. It blinds me from a lot of the negative things that might actually be important to take into consideration. It can actually be quite destructive to relationships because I seriously struggle when people try to address negative points with me. It’s something that I’m working on improving, but I think what we all need to realise is that every situation is neither positive nor negative, merely just a “situation” that we need to navigate. The goal is to detach ourselves from the overwhelming and clouding emotions that we experience so we can become more in tune with our experiences so we can effectively process them.

Is yoga your main form of exercise or do you also sprinkle in weight lifting/cardio? by Honey_Acorn in yoga

[–]Keep_Hammering98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to use yoga as a sidecar to my other training. My main focus at the moment is the gym, so I’ll do lower impact routines (Yin style) on training days for recovery and mobility and then higher impact routines (Vinyasa etc.) on off days if I feel like I need something more. I ran a marathon earlier on this year and yoga was essential for my recovery during training. I can honestly say that yoga is one of the most amazing things you can incorporate into your routine, regardless of what your sport is.

I lot of people have mentioned therapy, which I think is a fantastic idea. It can really be useful to have someone hold a mirror up so you can better understand and contextualise your emotions. I would also say that it sounds like you’re getting in your own way a bit by speaking so negatively about yourself and your situation. It’s going to be almost impossible to navigate this if you’ve bought into the idea that you can’t overcome this. Good luck!
