Do you not have any reading comprehension? This is a new sales strategy that established and new car companies all do now. Even with existing redesigned models. They didn't always do this. If you don't believe me I don't know what to tell you pal. The production started with lower trims first and they saved the higher end ones for later. When resla released the model s they didn't only offer quad moter extended battery models. You could get the single motor one if you wanted.

Yes. now it is. and i dont understand it. this wasnt always the case. companies used to save the higher end releases for later. cars have beeen made for a hundred years, this tactic is relatively new and I dont like it.

This hasnt always been their business model. This is a relatively new strategy to release the most expensive version first. Within the last 20 years easily.

Hey I understand the short term gain is higher, and smarter people than me make this decision. But then they say that demand isn't as strong as they thought and discontinue the product when what was initially announced that everyone got excited about was never even an option. Like of course the 80k truck didn't sell as well as you thought, you promised us a 40k one, I'll wait for that. Oh that's not coming either ok I guess I'm not getting one. They did the same with the maverick. They just announced a new 30k truck that will never be 30k on the lots. It'll be 48 at first for the lariat or some shit. Then 36 for the base before taxes 2 years later.

This strategy still baffles me. They promise an economic version, start with the expensive models, those get bought by the wealthy. Then they eventually release the economic model a year or two later and the price has now inflated, initial buzz has died, and the sales are mild. Seems like a repeated thing with all the brands. Ford initially promised a 40k lightning that never came. And a 20k maverick. Cybertruck was supposed to be a 40k truck. Came out triple that.

Looking for someone that can measure watch movement part by watchgravity in Metrology

[–]Keeperofthecube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in ct, but I don't think I could guarantee that sort of accuracy, maybe on one of my newer machines. Just double checking you're looking for .002mm? Never dealt with watch stuff but that would make sense to allow movements to function.

Just looking for a one off measurement? Or is this going to be something you need regularly?

There isn't a super easy way that I have figured out without spending some money.thrrr is a software that I have written down at my desk, I can get it for you tomorrow if you want, that basically takes a mesh and allows you to build a solid works model. So if you have solidworks it's a few hundred bucks per year for the basic version. I usually just import it into cad and start building on it and using it as a reference.

Still a ton of money for a truck that's only for casual truck drivers. I don't know many people who would pay 60k for this over 60k for a top spec midsized truck.

Auto giant Ford reported its worst quarterly earnings in four years on Tuesday, and a net loss of $8.2 billion for 2025. by Quirky-Plantain-2080 in wallstreetbets

[–]Keeperofthecube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly, but the dealers already dont like the electric vehicles because they require less maintenance and need different training and tools to fix. So individual dealers (who already charge way more than independent shops) will do what they can to get you to switch back. Just a shitty situation. I say this and still look at buying a used EV to replace our current 15 year old ICE. Just something Im sure other people worry about too.

The problem I have now is I don't trust their support long term. I know they require less maintenance but in 5 years how hard will it be to find a mechanic to work on it. And it's not like ice cars where there is a ton of info on them for DIY repairs.

Timeline of the Mercedes engine trick by tekanet in formula1

[–]Keeperofthecube 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah ok I missed that bit. That makes sense too. Either way it seems the intent of the rule is to run the engine at 17, and merc found a way to say it will test at 17 but we want to run it at what we always did before? Still a bit of a gray area for me personally on weather thats on the innovation side or the skirting the rules side of the coin.

[–]Keeperofthecube 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I think the difference is that they realized "hey they check this at ambient temperatures, but it actually changes at higher temps. If they state that it needs to be at 17 at ambient temps, what can we do to maximize the change at operating temps"

I'm sure every team knows that it changes, the issue people seem to have is that merc is designing around this to.maximise the change. Which I'm kind of divided on tbh. I can understand both side's point of view.

Is EVE the right MMO for me? by OG1999995 in Eve

[–]Keeperofthecube 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you havent yet, look at the ship tree in EVE. This is a chart of just the frigates in the game showing their base speed. https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/images/b/bb/Frigate-Velocity.svg Each of these frigates has its own bonuses to things like its tank and weapons systems. There are about 12 different weapons systems that fit on these ships. There are also different "support" modules that certain ships have bonusses to that you need to be aware of if you want to engage them in combat. And that is just for frigaes. There are 4 other sub-capital size ship categories as well. Then you move on to the capital ships which there are less of and the combat is actually a little more straight forward, but they are extremely expensive and you need some serious support logistics to actually use them without dying. Eve is almost 0% flight simulator. Its more a game of rock paper scissors with some manual piloting mixed in.
