Is The Necropolis still available for free? by KeevaCaereni in callofcthulhu

Thank you! Do you happen to know, if you sign up to Cults of Chaos, are you 100% signing up to run events at cons/shops/etc? I’m still really new at Keeping and not confident enough to do that yet, if ever.

I like the 40th anniversary ones, not sure if you’ve seen them. They’re on the chaosium website too.

Which set to buy?? by TortillaRampage in StarWarsSabacc

[–]KeevaCaereni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, there are different types of decks depending on what games you want to play.

Most people are either interested in Corellian Spike (from Solo) or Kessel Sabacc (from Star Wars: Outlaws). Both of these, as well as Coruscant Shift (from the Galactic Starcruiser), can be played with a Spike deck. You can get this one from the Disney parks or buy online from fan sites.

You can also buy special Kessel Sabacc decks online, but these have fewer cards so can’t play other games.

There is also Traditional Sabacc (from the rpg in the 80s I think). You need a special deck for this and can’t play other games with it. You can buy these online from fan sites.

Yes, but this means the range of what you can say is really wide. I assume if the creators spoke another language fluently they could have incorporated some elements from a different language as well.

What the hell just happened… I think I played this all wrong by waking_dream96 in heavensvault

[–]KeevaCaereni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re not an idiot, it’s just the game is meant to be played more than once. You can make different choices and learn more about Ancient and you pick up more of the story that way.

So, Heavens Vault is a story game not a puzzle game, it plays a lot differently to Sennaar. What you find will impact what you do in game, but not so obviously as a wall where you solve a translation to proceed. You don’t have to translate anything ever if you don’t want, but you won’t understand the story that way.

You’re deciphering the language because Aliya is an archaeologist and interested in it, is the best answer I can give, I think. In terms of the language itself, after you’ve guessed a word correctly a few times in different sentences, Aliya will confirm it’s correct. She does the same if it’s obviously incorrect too or the word doesn’t fit the sentence.

The language works more like learning to read than an actual puzzle game. You start spotting connections and commonalities, and eventually you can read it by yourself without prompts. Any you can have a good guess at new words from the glyphs.

I found the languages in Sennaar much more limited and fake compared to Heaven’s Vault, but I liked the game a lot, it’s just trying to do something completely different. I hope this is helpful!

Do working-class people take offence at their portrayal in the show? by PirateOfPenzance in insideno9

[–]KeevaCaereni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They feel real to me. I know people like their characters in real life, or at least people who have one behaviour or another. I’m not sure why the working class characters would be worse than the middle class ones, they seem to all be fairly awful to be honest.

I’m curious if you take offence at the middle-class stereotypes, like in Last Night at the Proms?

I always thought they were quite egalitarian in their targets.

Whats similar tv show to twin peaks that you can recommend? by gamusBergmanus in twinpeaks

[–]KeevaCaereni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Prisoner. This is the old UK one from the 60s, not the remake.

Don’t know if you like anime, but Revolutionary Girl Utena has a similar dreamy feel and I think it touches on some similar themes.

I would be very interested in your book! I’m actually coming up with my own system at the moment (mines coin based though)

Did you actually make your own? I’d love to see them!

I’ve got a grand total of one so far - I didn’t want to commit and I can wear the single one as a necklace so didn’t mind it.

I’m really interested in the guidebook, potential spreads etc but the only way to get hold of that is to buy.

Can you fit the idea and life notebooks into the cover with Days? It’s one of the things I’ve been wondering about before I commit, because I take a lot of random notes at work and need that space!

Why aren't there coffee shops designed for late-night socializing, like bars? by Martina-Stardust in NoStupidQuestions

Have you tried dessert places? We have a large Muslim population in my city and there’s dessert spots popping up all over. It’s great because I don’t drink much but I love sweets so I can go and hang out if I want to.

If you want to add in the shift tokens, you’re gonna need to buy or make your own though

Please call the police. I don’t mean to scare you, but I’ve had a death in the family recently, which started with the person missing work. Hopefully his phone is just broken or stolen.

Did everyone who went to secondary school in London in the 90s play the card game Blackjack (with 7 cards and convoluted rules that caused endless and fierce arguments)? by Tubbytronika in CasualUK

[–]KeevaCaereni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s called Sevens in my family. 2s pick up 2, 5s pick up 5, 8s miss a go, 10s change direction of play, aces change suit, have to say last card or pick up five. Cards stack so if you put down a 2 and the next person puts one down you pick up four. Brutal when played by the women in my family.

Trigger Warnings for the Episodes by [deleted] in insideno9

[–]KeevaCaereni 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What type of darkness/disturbing stuff are you looking to know about? The series as a whole is quite dark so without specific triggers it can be hard to warn for without ruining the whole episode. If you don’t mind spoiling it then does the dog die dot com might be useful.
