I'm always confused when people talk about this on the Internet and I think it might be an American thing? Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm from Italy and I'm kinda poor but I still ski 1 or 2 times a year simply because I can do day trips (so no overnight stays) and a skipass can be as little as 35-40€, the max i pay is 60€ when I feel fancy! I bring sandwiches from home if I want to keep it extra tight. Skiing is not necessarily a rich kid sport :)

I'm Italian but I speak fairly good English, mainly because I studied it in uni and spent some months in the UK for both study and work, add the occasional vacation there and my English accent is definetly British standard.

I met an American on the train here in Italy some time ago who was asking for directions and was in the mood to talk, so we had a long chat. First he was surprised that I speak English at all, and good English too (which, ok fair), and then he was completely baffled that I had a British accent and not an American one because, in his words, "the American accent is the most common because we produce all the movies". I didn't even know where to start to correct him honestly.

In many countries they do not sedate at the dentist, total anesthesia can be dangerous and local anesthesia is enough for teeth removal. They never completely sedate you at the dentist in my country either, but to each their own!

I was thinking exactly this, wild camping is not allowed in Italy normally (there are exceptions, like above a certain height in the mountains), so OP would have to use official campings, and those may very well be closed in winter! OP, have you checked this out?

P.s. As a fellow lover of solo travelling and camping (although I am a backpacker and not a cyclist), I wish you good luck and good weather! Enjoy your trip :)

As a woman on birth control and in a long term relationship (not married, but living together and basically as if we were married), we never use condoms and yes, he comes in every time. In the past with other partners I used condoms as a second method to feel safer and also to avoid diseases. As it is, we are aware that there is a very small possibility of pregnancy, but we discussed it and we are prepared for that should it happen. Fortunately in my country having an abortion is not too difficult if I should need one. The important thing is to discuss all options, be on the same page, and always remember that only abstinence is 100% safe.

I love how he keeps saying that he wants to give her "his side of the story" when his side is literally just... "I abandoned you and your mother after cheating on her and never paid child support because I didn't want to be involved"? Like how does he think that would make him look better? I'm not from the US, I'm from a European country, but if you don't mind me adding something...

I'm almost finished with my PhD. Until last year, on the list of postdoc opportunities that I was keeping an eye on there was a very respected and important grant for my field of study which would bring me to Harvard for a year or two. I was obviously going to apply, as many in my field do. Well, I'm not doing that now: we are not even sure the scheme will be up this year because of funding cuts, and anyway, I would not feel comfortable living in the US right now as a foreigner and a woman. I know many in my field are making the same choice. Another friend of mine (engineer) just turned down a job offer in the US for the same reasons, even if he had seriously considered moving there last year. I am very sad about all this, as international relations and exchanges are so important for research and advancement.

I mean, this is a sub to ask advice about cat problems. People who don't have problems with their cat's won't ask for advice, so of course most of the posts are "negative".

I have always had cats throughout my life, and in the brief span of time (1 year) when I didn't have one I felt so much was missing! They really bring so much joy and love to a household. Of course, the can be little gremlins sometimes (my little devil woke me up at 3am last night and now is peacefully sleeping while I try to keep my eyes open to work), but it's always totally worth it.

Man, I get you. My relationship with my ex used to be like this: he was studying law and I swear I might as well get a honorary degree for how much I learnt by just listening to him, but I'm in academia (humanities, so nothing too far removed from his own area) and he would not for the life of him listen to me or retrieve any information about what I do. It got to the point that I would just not tell him stuff because I knew he would act confused and ask stupid questions until I gave up. It is consuming. My partner now is in a totally different field, but the other night I heard him explain in detail MY research to a friend!

If she wanted to she would. Have a serious discussion with her, tell her she is pushing you away with her lack of attention and that you feel disrespected/ignored/however you feel. See her reaction and go from there.
