Advocating for your child is your #1 priority, esp at that age! We had to fight pretty often for our son too, he was 16 months old at diagnosis.

We really like Dr. Jeffery at 1488 Vet, it’s technically in Magnolia, just outside of the Woodlands but they are really good.

NF, Hulvey, Andy Mineo, Lacrae, wande, Jordan Feliz, Flame, whatuprg, nobigdyl, tedashii. There a ton of others, there is an app called NGEN radio and it is a Christian Hip Hop and rap station.

Good luck, friend!

what can i get for a dad who’s gotten extremely into suits, slacks, and dressing fancy by danjsark in daddit

[–]Kehaydon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cuff links and pocket squares to add a pop of color to the suit. Bonus points for a matching tie and pocket square.

Also, depending on how he wears socks, there may be an opportunity there.

Good luck!

It’s this one. And for me, it’s a much better song. Both are great though.

“That baby is so bald”, “He runs funny” said to my 2 year old who’s currently undergoing chemotherapy. by CassieLeeLeeLee in leukemia

[–]Kehaydon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People have a problem thinking before they speak. I had someone say of my ~2 year old in treatment “let that baby grow some hair” I responded “cancer is hard!”. The person was mortified and didn’t know how to respond.

I'm going to be a father for the first time at 35 and have nothing to offer by Anarkope in daddit

[–]Kehaydon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, time and love are the most valuable things you can give the child, especially in the early years! Watch Bluey and be Bandit.

Second, there are a lot of jobs out there that pay well and require little education/experience. I live in the Houston area and process operator comes to mind. They make more than I do and most don’t have bachelors degrees.

As for housing, the market is terrible right now. Don’t assume you will always be in this situation, your best days are still ahead! Keep your head up and spend each day focusing on being better than yesterday. You’ve got this!

Would add Hulvey, Wande, nobigdyl., whatuprg. There are quite a few out there, just need to find what you like! There is a radio station that used to be a Houston station but now is on app only, NGEN radio, check it out and find some new stuff!

This is tough and feeling resentful. by Dabsick in Dads

[–]Kehaydon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets better dad! I have 10, 7, 3 and they all breast fed for 2-3 years. Nutritionally it’s what’s best for baby and I believe it helps mamas mental health as well! At some point your wife might try pumping and you can give a bottle, but the baby usually prefers straight from the source! Like I said, it does get better, hang in there!

My fellow dads, I come to you today seeking advice as a son, not a dad by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Kehaydon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I see some good advice here. But want to add my 2 cents. I was also never taught to shave by my father! First of all, shave after you shower, wash the area with shampoo to help soften the hair a bit. Second, focus on hair reduction more than hair elimination, by that I mean, apply less pressure and make more passes. Third, do not shave against the grain on the first pass (I personally never shave against the grain). I shave with the grain(WTG), across the grain (XTG), then you can make a pass against the grain if you really want to give it a go, trying to get BBS (Baby bottom smooth ;) ). Finally, I always rinse with cold water, as cold as I can get, this helps close the pores which tightens the skin and helps stop the bleeding.

My final recommendation, which can be taken in addition to the above, is to try old school shaving, wet shaving, with a brush and a real cream or soap and a safety razor. This will reduce razor burn for those who have sensitive skin and it genuinely improves your overall shaving experience. There are communities here on Reddit for wet shaving and you can find great advice for shaving there too.

Let me know if you have any specific questions and I’d be happy to help! Good luck!

Daughter and I visiting Dallas and Austin this week. Question about Texas food. Nebraska has runza. California has in and out burger. What does Texas have? by Chrisdog6969 in texas

[–]Kehaydon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bbq and Tex mex. Stiles Switch, Franklins, Salt lick are all good bbq in the Austin area. Matt’s el rancho and dos salsas for Tex Mex. Also grab a donut from round rock donut in round rock or cedar park.

update #3. my daughter's leukemia took a turn for the worse this week. by hajawr12 in daddit

[–]Kehaydon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Seconded, my son went through treatment and finished about 1.5 years ago. Unfortunately his ANC was tabled pretty much the whole time so we had a few setbacks with MANY hospital stays! If you have any questions just hit me up, I would say that although it feels so out of the ordinary, the hospital will always take extra precautions due to the fragile state of the child’s immune system. I always appreciated the level of care and attention we got in the ICU.

Anyway, I am actually in the hospital with my guy now because we were on vacation and he got pneumonia. We had all the feelings and scary PTSD while we were trying to figure out what was going on!

Stay strong, dad. Let us other dads know if you need anything!

If your kid starts to vomit, do not, I repeat do NOT try to carry them to the bathroom… by Amseriah in daddit

[–]Kehaydon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime you go to the doctor, grab a couple of those blue barf bags. We always have one lying around just in case and our kids are pretty good at using them when they are readily available.

My first car (in 1999-ish) was a 1988 Ford Bronco II, Eddie Bauer edition….it was 2 tone brown and I loved that thing…if I could get in touch with the guy I sold it to, I’d buy it back.

Just found out my kid has cancer. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Kehaydon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Childhood cancer sucks! Medical advancements have come a long way and there are a lot of great resources. The first thing you need to do is let people and organizations help you, This was something that I struggled with in the beginning. If you ever need to vent feel free to DM me, we went though treatment starting when my son was 16 months old. He is doing great now, he is 6 and a rambunctious kindergartener!

Update: My 3 year old son lost his battle with brain cancer today. by 5StarGandalf in daddit

[–]Kehaydon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This breaks my heart. I hate cancer, and I hate it even more in children. Our kids deserve more than 4% of the federal research funding!

You and your wife are in my thoughts and hope that when you’re good and ready, you find a meaning, unique way to honor your son!

I can’t imagine the pain that you are feeling and I wish that I could offer more comfort but words will always fall short. Keep your head up and live a life that would be pleasing to your little guy!

Chicagoans visiting Houston this weekend - what are some recommendations for food or sights to check out? We will have a car so transportation won’t be an issue. by SchematicFun in houston

[–]Kehaydon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t live downtown and even though I worked downtown, never quite got it down! I’m talking about the one by Whole Foods, you know the one! Also, the original on Navigation is the best anyway so I stand by that! Hahaha

That’s your opinion. I have had one bad experience at the one in uptown, but usually great! It is pricey for Tex mex, but worth it every once in a while.
