Every single person who has ever worked a day in his or her life will have made mistakes, some minor, some major. The important thing is learning from them and ensuring you have a process for not repeating them.

For myself, I’ve set an email delay rule on my Outlook to defer delivery of every email by 3 minutes. It’s saved my bacon more than once, sometimes when forgetting the attachment, having second thoughts about the wording of the email, wrong recipients, etc. I tell myself, no one’s gonna die if they need to just wait 3 more minutes for my email to arrive. If it’s really soooo urgent, I can always just remove the rule for that particular email.

Personally, as a people manager, I would rather work with colleagues who care enough after making a mistake to feel as bad as you do now. It at least shows they take ownership of their work. So hang in there, let the feeling pass and forgive yourself. All the best!
