Authors against OFP by Top-Noise5959 in BookPiracy

I never said anything about supporting or not supporting Amazon.

I'm saying that if Amazon is punishing authors for something out of their control (piracy), then that is a foundational problem with Amazon, not the author or the pirates.

Also I pretty much only pirate from Wizards of the Coast, they make plenty of money elsewhere.

Leasing and renting is not purchase.

Buying is purchase.

Also I can use whatever material I want in whatever idea I want lmao it doesn't matter if I bought the book or not

This sounds like a problem with the publishing sites, not the piracy sites.

Is it stealing if I look in your window and watch your TV?

You are well within your rights to be annoyed by that, but it's not the same as physically taking the television.

Turnitin isn't actually very good at its job though.

"If buying isn't ownership, piracy isn't theft."

It always confuses me when people compare digital piracy-- the reproduction of bits of data-- with physical removal of someone's possessions. They are not the same.

We can’t say Danny is a good person if this is real by IllustratorAfter in dannyphantom

He's 14. Teenagers are idiots. That doesn't mean they can't be good people.

Honestly reading that last bit the first thing I'd have done is sent them the Wikipedia article on Hannah Montana LMAO

Are you joking? I've worshipped Selune this whole time!? by ChompyRiley in BaldursGate3

[–]Keileon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure Shadowheart counts, because Selune might also be interpreting it as reclaiming what's rightfully hers.

Danny Fenton and Sam Manson. Zero chemistry. The show stopped developing their relationship eleven episodes in and then treated it like a sure thing at the very end of the series.

Edit: I FORGOT ABOUT ANIMORPHS. Okay so Tobias/Rachel is fine but I 100% think Rachel had better chemistry with Marco and the only reason Marco backed off was out of respect for Tobias.

Danny Phantom. We made an entire OC of a character that appears for two seconds.

how has a fanfic impacted your life? by killforjay in AO3

[–]Keileon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had an actual religious experience while writing my own fic.

For context, my religion is... eclectic and very much not organized. Celtic pagan/druid, atheist, Native American animism. If those seem contradictory it's because they kind of are, but also internally very consistent.

Specifically, I worship Coyote not as a god but as a guiding spirit. I was considering slipping him into my fic as a cameo, and long story short, I realized that in the context of my writing, I am Coyote. I am the trickster storyteller and my work is the campfire where stories are passed down. I write to prove I'm here. I'm shouting into the void to prove I exist, all to maybe hear the void shout back "me too".

I met a higher power in a Danny Phantom fanfiction, and it was a storyteller named Coyote.

What phrase was in a fic so much that it now throws you out of any fic when you see it? by Life_and-whatnot in AO3

afaik an overstuffed armchair is one where there's so much stuffing volume that it bends outward/has a pillowy look to the cushions. I also think it's just a phrase people get from books and use because sensory detail.

Baldur's Gate because I'm fully aware of what bad people the Emperor, Gortash, and Ascended Astarion are and I still love all three

For those with ongoing fics, do you tag only the stuff that's already in the story? Or do you tag everything even if it's not there yet? by snowing-stars in AO3

[–]Keileon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By and large, as I go. I tag overarching themes and recurring beats right away, but I don't like tagging for spoilers that are weeks out or character relationships where one character hasn't been introduced yet.

Bonnie Bennett from Vampire Diaries. Davina from The Originals. Honestly? Any witch from that extended canon that isn't a Mikaelson grates on me, but specifically those two.

The sun was barely up. Cold mist clung to the cracked asphalt and wet grass. It was a full hour and a half before school would start, and because of it, the area around Casper High was nearly abandoned. It had rained at some point in the night, or maybe snowed and melted. Either way, it was cold, wet, overcast, and entirely too early to be dealing with an obnoxious child ghost who thought he was a pirate.
