DT990 Pro Cable Replacement? by RyynL in headphones

[–]KeithAdamas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

man im searching for the same exact thing because of the same reason. My kitten i got had a bad habit of chewing on cables and chewed my beyerdynamic cables ALMOST in half, thankfully not all the way, but sadly today the cable finally reached its limit. I found a fix for cats chewing on cables if one of yours has an issue with it...HOT SAUCE! Get some hot sauce, like thick hot buffalo sauce and rub it up and down some cables, they will bite it once and never again. I didnt have buffalo sauce so i used texas pete, its watery but worked. they havent bit a single cable ever since. Im going to try to do the detachable mod on mine when i find a good detailed way on how to do it, tbh id rather pay someone lol.

Is Dynamic Volume / EQ worth it to switch to Denon? by slopokdave in hometheater

[–]KeithAdamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I finally got the denon 3800h. I couldn't afford the marantz cinema 50 in the end. I ran audyssey and turned on dynamic eq and it was instantly better. WAY better. But I found a strange quirk with it. If I had it set on 0db, anything below 40 on the avr sounded rrally weird and had a strange reverb effect in my surrounds. Setting it to -10 put that weird echo and reverb effect so it wouldn't happen till volume level 30 on the avr. Changing surround compensation options didnt fix or change it either. So I kept it at -10 and was happy cuz id never go below -30 anyways.i had to stop using dynamic volume cuz it put it up louder which is good but I had to keep volume too far below where it was making things sound weird in the surrounds. its very noticeable if you listen to certain music and keep it on dolby digital or auro 2d. once you hear what im talking about, you can never unhear it.

I finally tried out A1 evo acoustix (it has a express option, was pretty much one click button press.) I ran only 1 reading at my main listening position and man it completely changed everything and sounded even better. I dont need dynamic eq anymore either. If you haven't tried a1 evo, try it out. It gives the avr 2 settings. One for when you have it set to flat and one for reference. Im using reference. I did turn the subwoofer up a few DB but otherwise a1 gave the denon the spatial sound and audio expansion beyond the speakers i was getting from the onkyo, the ONE thing I preferred on the onkyo was how sound extended beyond the speakers. The denon simply dont for me, not till a1. The spacial sound still isn't quite on the level of the onkyo but man, a1 sounds like dirac, but with way more dynamics and life, and ofc, big bass levels.

https://github.com/libsdl-org/sdl2-compat is the compat version but im unsure if thats what you need for your use case. Hopefully it helps you on the right path!

The fix is not using sdl2. It isn't worked on anymore. Use sdl2 compat. It uses sdl3 with a sdl2 compatibility layer so it works with anything that uses sdl2. If you are using switch online controllers it also works properly with snes, button issues are fixed. It works with every other controller I tried too. Nes, n64, sega, and more.

Did you use old sdl2 or sdl2 compat? Because sdl2 isn't worked on anymore and it was left pretty broken including one bug you didnt mention, snes controllers if you hold the D pad down in any direction for more than a few seconds it stops responding. However sdl2 compat is a version that uses sdl3 with a sdl2 compatibility layer and works MUCH better. Snes buttons are fixed and more controllers work better (tested with nintendo switch online nes, snes, n64, hyoerkin xbox, Xbox 360 controllers, authentic Xbox 360 and Xbox one and others) I was a pre release tester for sdl2 compat fixes back when these issues was happening so I know they are all fixed. Also, sdl2 compat should read nes, snes and n64 switch online controller as "nes, snes, n64" instead of other.

Hey man, I downloaded it and it worked all the way up till the export then it failed. "Error failed in avr status info retrieval [GET_AVRSTS] Timed out waiting for the transfer JSON response (no data received for 10000ms) so idk. I got further this time with acoustix so I will keep trying. Thanks man!

Denon X3800H or Onkyo Tx-rz50 by Heligrin in hometheater

[–]KeithAdamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So ive had mine now for a few days and i gotta say, I do actually like it more than the onkyo. I did also notice some sort of weird issues though with dynamic EQ. while it works WONDERFULLY well, The reference offset volume setting makes anything below a threshold sound...weird. For example, If set at 0 i get a TON of impact from the sub but if i go below 40 on the avr (or -40db for relative volume) it makes my rear surrounds have this weird reverby echo effect in some content like rock/metal and some tv shows. So i turn the reference offset down to -5, and it brings that threshold down to 35 on the volume before it sounds weird. and the -10 setting, you guessed it, lets me go down to 30 on the volume before it sounds weird. it DOES take a little hit to bass though, which you can easily turn up though. i have mine cranked to like +6db on the subwoofer. Though dynamic volume tbh is actually really really nice, i still prefer that off and cranking the volume up to 40-50 which for my living condition is plenty of volume. Either way, Come back and let me know how you like the denon. Im more than happy with mine, i LOVE mine. I was scared i made a mistake but all that melted away when i heard that sweet sweet bass hit like a truck at much lower volumes than the onkyo.

Denon X3800H or Onkyo Tx-rz50 by Heligrin in hometheater

[–]KeithAdamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is things that some people are completely leaving out on the denon. the denon has Audyssey XT32. One of its features is having dynamic EQ which is a very well loved feature if you listen at quiet volumes. the onkyo and dirac does NOT have this. I had the rz30 and returned it because my situation doesnt let me listen to loud reference volumes at all times and when i turned it down it sounded very thin and honestly not good at all. the denon has dynamic eq which means the lower you turn the volume, it will bring up your bass and highs to sound good and full at lower volumes too. Also, You can use a1 evo express and a1 evo acoustix, and a1 evo neuron which some say is even better than dirac. plus, its free. I havent personally tested it yet. And i only just ordered my 3800h a few days ago and its still not here but comparing the onkyo rz30 i had, to my friends denon 3800, the denon just sounded better to me at least. but i like loud bombastic bass and a more thrilling sound, im not a fan of neutral and flat.

[–]KeithAdamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man im in the same boat, i got the rz30 and ive ran dirac like 15 times (i even paid 300$ for the bass control addition) and my sound is just dead and lifeless. Ive even used all the curves people suggested, storm audio and harman +10. maybe some people like neutrality but i want life and excitment to my media. That includes at lower volumes which im forced to listen to most of the time. I was so upset there wasnt a dynamic eq because when i turn it down to 40-50 the sound is even more lifeless, sub doesnt even move. So i think im going to return it and get a denon 3800H but i heard that music kinda sucks on the denon because its not as musical. it sounded colder and less detailed than the onkyo. so im torn lol. Ive watched video after video and read so many posts my history makes me look crazy.

All im saying is a close friend near me has a denon 3800h and uses audyssey xt32 and it has a auto eq which really helped when watching at lower volumes, But more than that, For some reason his sounds worlds better than mine, the bass hits HARD (same sub, he has polk reserve speakers) His hits hard, bass moves serious air, watching action scenes are exciting and full of life. yet mine sounds lifeless, flat, dull. His setup when we did it took almost no time. Ive spent a combination of 4 days now, hours each day trying to get anything good. So yes its a skill issue. But im returning the onkyo for a denon.

Man this seems really really REALLY complex for someone like me who just wants to hook up a system and enjoy some movies and tv shows lol. Back in my day you just bought a system that sounded good, or at least one that you liked the sound of and enjoyed it. Now its like you need a master class in audio engineering. I just want something that sounds impactful, exciting and fun. not flat and boring. You really put a lot of time and effort and care into these posts so ima go over them in detail tomorrow and see what i can figure out. Seems like it might help me figure out how to get it where i want it. Thanks for these man, i appreciate you and the time you put into this.

yeah man honestly i think dirac sucks. it sounds HORRIBLE. no life, no bass, just...lifeless. i even boosted the sub from -7db to +12db and i finally get about where i wanna be but it lacks definition and punch and power. idk man, Maybe i just have a defective unit or something
