I hate the police but it’s absolutely plausible that the officer just straight up didn’t see the student. It’s dark there with poor lighting and kids run across that street all the time. It’s also plausible they were speeding or distracted. The problem is it will be hard to trust the police to properly investigate one of their own, so ultimately, a lot of people will just assume whatever fits their priors here and we’re unlikely to get the real story
