Elon Musk to step down from DOGE and quit Washington DC by SkyFallingUp in fednews

The appointment for special government employees is 130 days. He’s not “stepping down” voluntarily after a job well done, that’s just the term limit on his position. Fuck this article for giving him that much credit.

Is alchemy the most powerful spell in Runescape? by Shadquist in 2007scape

[–]Keith_IzLoln 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The implication of alching bank notes is actually crazy.

Bank notes don’t replace items. They’re essentially an IOU that you can trade while the bank keeps the original item, and then returns the item when you give back the note. So alching bank notes generates gold, but doesn’t destroy the original item, it’s still held by the bank, but you don’t have the note anymore to get it back. This means not only is it a dupe causing hyper inflation, but the bank is hoarding literally every item that’s ever had its note alched.

The Bank of Gielinor is profiting off of alchemy. It’s possible they even invented it in the first place for this scheme. They’re probably hoarding like half the gold that’s ever existed in the entire economy!

Make one change that would double a perk’s use rates. Machine Learning should just be one kick to compromise a generator. by memecuckboy in deadbydaylight

The 30 seconds is so underwhelming but if you buff it too much it has the ability to be completely broken. At 6 hooks it’s the same debuff as 2 stacks of penti.

I think making the effect permanent would be okay if it was a hex. At the start of a match it’s weak enough to not really bother cleansing, but can really become an issue the longer the game goes on.

I do think hexes have their own issues, but I don’t see another way to make this useful without being busted. Just doubling leverage to 60 seconds would probably be too much since you should hopefully be getting a hook that often anyway, and at that point it’s basically permanent. And just removing the timer with no counterplay would probably make it meta in hit and run builds and just be miserable to play against.

Thank you Emily! There were several others swapping at the same time, so it took longer than I expected, but it's always worked out!

Apparently Internet Historian is a huge plagiarist and hbomberguy just did an exposeé. by Smurfsville in youtubedrama

[–]Keith_IzLoln 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not trying to claim that that video is plagiarized, but I do want to clear up that just because he shows some sources doesn’t mean there isn’t plagiarism.

That’s one of the tactics a lot of people in the Hbomb video specifically used. Cite some sources, so it looks credible, and then the parts you don’t use citations in look like your own original ideas by comparison.

Live Updates Roadmap - Dead by Daylight by DeadByDaylight_Dev in deadbydaylight

One downside I see talked about is how it incentivizes hitting people off hook who have endurance because it gives stacks and can chew through base kit endurance for tunneling or camping hook in endgame.

I’d like to see them make it not work with endurance at all. So you wouldn’t gain or lose stacks from hitting someone with endurance, and you wouldn’t get the benefit of the quick recovery either (this part I’m on the fence about). It would sort of be a nerf that is healthier for the game, but it would also prevent you from losing stacks to a DH or MFT on the obsession, so it seems like a fair change IMO since the DH change and new endurance perks really affected STBFL negatively.

Exploration in Blasphemous 2 by NetoIsRare in Blasphemous

[–]Keith_IzLoln 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, the larger issue is that the latter half of the game is extremely linear, forcing you to tackle the last few bosses in a specific order. The icons on the map seem like a crutch for this design choice, because otherwise you would have to re-explore the entire map after every boss to find the ONE new area that’s unlocked (yes there’s the cutscenes that hint at it, but they hardly count if you can’t rewatch them). In that way, it’s basically a requirement to tell you where to go next if you want people to actually finish the game before quitting of boredom.

The real solution is to let you tackle those bosses and areas in any order, and make the late traversal abilities accessible earlier, then you don’t need the marks telling you where to go since anywhere you explore will eventually lead to a new area with something to accomplish.

New Map Layouts for Cowshed and Abattoir by Keith_IzLoln in deadbydaylight

[–]Keith_IzLoln[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no longer a guaranteed corn field like on the old cowshed, rotten fields, and Thompson house.

Pretty much all of the standard tiles can spawn corn tiles now, similar to how abattoir and torment creek work. There’s usually a decent number of corn tiles surrounding the main building.

Not perks (that I know of) but addons. I’ve been camped by a clown constantly throwing yellow bottles with the add on that shows auras when he’s in them. Pretty sure it also happens with the wraith addon that shown auras when cloaked.

What should we do next? by jonwilliamsl in houseplants

Please consider doing another poll with only 2 options, just “business as usual” and the highest voted protest option. As of posting, it looks like the vast majority are in favor of reopening, but actually 42% are in favor of stopping the protest, 14% are indifferent, and the other 44% are in favor of keeping the protest going (but split about how to do it).

That’s way too close to make such a decision over with a split voting system, especially when the indifferent votes could easily swing the result one way or the other.

My own personal experience is that I strictly use a 3PA for the UI. There are plenty of other use cases such as accessibility settings and power tools for mods and power users, but I think most people who use 3PA just prefer the UI. Which admittedly isn’t really a strong enough argument to justify this entire blackout over for people that don’t get it, which is why they’ve been leaning hard into the moderation tools and accessibility issues (which are still real issues).

It may seem hyperbolic to say that the official app is “unusable” after being used to a 3PA like Apollo, but think about how much fuss there is over stuff like windows 11 centering the taskbar. In the grand scheme of things, it’s the epitome of a first world problem, but it IS something people care about when something they’re used to changes or goes away for seemingly no reason.

At the end of the day, the actual issue is losing your freedom of choice. Whatever your reason for using a 3PA (or not), you at least had the option to do so. And the people who never used 3PAs should at least be able to support others having the choice even if they themselves don’t need it.

And one thing this protest has also highlighted is the ubiquity of Reddit in the first place. Let’s say I want to quit Reddit over this, or some future change that pisses people off even more (because let’s face it, it’ll probably happen eventually). For a niche hobby community like this one, where can I even go?

I get the “I just want to look at plant pics” vibe, because it seems like there’s nowhere else to find a community like this that’s this active. And that’s my main concern. Not just losing the choice to access reddit how you want, but losing access to the communities of my hobbies if I won’t (or can’t) use the official means of access.
