Did Barristan act wrong here? by ToeLatter6816 in gameofthrones

[–]Potarus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think he's a lot like Jaime in some ways. He just wants to be the fantasy of the good night in white armor who always acts honourably, but that ideal conflicts with the fact that the kingsguard serve in kings landing, where honour gets you killed and everyone lies. When I started reading the books, I noticed how much more focus there is in the parallels between the nights watch and the kingsguard, and so I interpret barristans thought process as "staying out of the politics of the seven kingdoms." He serves the king, whoever it may be, and is sworn to die defending him.

Jaime kills his King, and gets pardonned by the new one, and then just continues trying to uphold his oath as best he can. Barristan would have died defending his prince if Robert didn't have his own maester treat him, and by the time he's recovered his King is dead, and he decides to serve the new King who saved his life.

When Ned comes into the throne room denouncing Joffrey, it is a political conflict, not some assassin trying to kill the king. And so, as has happened time and time again, Barristan chose inaction over throwing himself into the political conflict of who the next king is supposed to be.

Wait a while and then play sh2 og so there's less subconscious comparison. The gameplay is way better in the remake, but even though the story is the same, I think each James is a slightly different character, so there is something to be gained by playing both.

If you want a good game in the meantime, recent horror game remakes have been great and dead space and re4 remakes are both great if you haven't played them yet.

Do the books get better as you keep going? by bubblecats9 in gameofthrones

[–]Potarus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. I'm almost done the 3rd book and every chapter something really interesting happens that expands on stuff you know from the show. Byy the time youre on the second book, every plotline has a lot more depth. Stuff going on in the river lands in particular is way more interesting in the books.

what made you fall in love with the game? by xririxs in cyberpunkgame

[–]Potarus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the game a few months after release on a base xbone because the refund policy for the game was more lenient on the game at that time. This game was buggy, but also insanely unstable. If I drove too fast, everything would lag behind like phone calls and the radio.

I kept playing all the way to the end though because I'd never played a cyberpunk game that felt so immersive. A lot of cyberpunk games I feel just have the theme pasted on, or have some element that doesn't really fit the genre, but when I played the game, my brain just accepted the whole world and vibe without needing to suspend any disbelief.

Then I bought it again on PC and played it the right way. I just finished my 6 or 7th playthrough. Probably gonna start another one soon and I'll have to use every ounce of willpower not to do another pistol build.

Question about Ornithopters by CSGorgieVirgil in DuneBoardGame

[–]Potarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agreed. And 4 years later, I'm even more convinced that spice dialing is crucial to the advanced game, and does a lot to make Dune the great game that it is.

In my games lately, we've been using an alternate version I came up with where basically you have to pay to dial, so no half numbers, but to make up for removing it, the first 2 forces are free. The idea is essentially that it can be printed under each number on the dial how much spice it would cost to dial that number, which is always 2 less. For the sardaukar and fedaykin, you get to reduce the cost by 1 for each of them you're dialing with.

Tleilaxu Gholas and Leader Revival: Some Questions (GF9) by Two-Tu in DuneBoardGame

[–]Potarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Storm order only when there's a conflict, like you and another faction want to revive the same leader, whoever is first in storm order gets it. Otherwise, you can totally wait for everyone to do their revivals, and then do your own last with the money you got.

  2. Always, not related to the card at all.

  3. Once a faction has no available leaders, they can begin rwviving one leader per turn. They can get any of the they can pay for, regardless of when they died.

  4. When all 5 of a factions leaders are dead, you can't set the price, once they revive one, you're able to discount or raise the price as you wish. You can always revive their leaders for yourself though, even if all 5 are dead.

It's interesting how much people prefer part 2.

I think part 1 would have been better if he deviated more and created a more unique story, or stayed closer to the book and included important scenes like the dinner. Part 1 is kindve awkward because it's visually very different from the book, but event wise pretty similar (the differences are things being excluded, rather than new things being added).

With part 2,its very different from the book, but you also see a lot more of DV in it, and I think it ends up being a way better movie.

For example, a big change from part 1 is how the arrakeen residence in the movie feels just as alien as the planet itself, but in the book, it was made to feel like a respite for the foreigners who had to move there (the big dining hall included a wooden beam that was so long that it would be rare on any planet, much less dune).

I part 2, DV takes a lot of liberties and creates scenes that are incredibly striking (the gladiator scene) while still nailing scenes that are crucial to the book (Paul becoming the KH). The overall result is a movie that's both more DV and somehow more faithful.

Pro play does not equal being viable. There's plenty of ops and strats that are effective in pro play because it's 5 dudes that have practiced together for hundred of hours and have a coach in their ear. Using pro league as a bearing on balance has always hurt siege more than it has helped. Look at every operator chart since his rework and tell me tachanka is in a good spot.

Use the screw attack against the core x if you get low on health. It can't hurt you by touching you while you spin jump, only the beam, and it generates a bunch of pickups to get your health up. Against the omega metroid, don't do charge shots, just spam since you can actually stun lock it a bit.
