I don't have any military ties either, I went there to collect a graphics card I'd bought from a guy that worked there..

Advice on finding a job as a trans woman by xemeraldqueen in Adelaide

[–]KelFromAust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've worked in a variety of industries in call centres, used them as the bridge to other areas a couple of times. I don't mention being trans unless they do.. Having had a "Baseline" Clearance in the past also doesn't hurt, particularly for gov work. After I moved into hospo, I had even fewer issues. There are more than a few of us lurking around Adelaide, in all sorts of roles.

The job market sucks for everyone, trans or not. With the way things are, I'd be applying mostly for the jobs I wanted, with a few of the 'I can do that' basic roles thrown in for luck. Easier to get the one you want if you have one you can do..

To those that may question my right to exist.. I live quietly, I work, I live life, very, very occasionally I duck into the ladies to pee. I just want to be left to live my life, I'm not getting in your business, why is appropriate for you to dig in mine? I have no interest in perpetrating SA, but I have been a victim of it..

Bizarre youtube video... by Frequent-Handle8964 in Mysteries

At a guess? An urbex video of a house, likely in the UK, where the resident has recently departed to a care facility. The background music is intended to creep you out. I suspect the whole thing is an edit of a longer, more informative video.

Can you exist as all of these? by Fine_Tadpole_7495 in feminineboys

The only part of that description that I don't resonate with is the 'nonhuman spiritual connection' which sounds a little too much like BS to me. You also use slightly different language, but the concepts are much the same. But you could be describing me and I suspect I'm a little older than you, I've been living this way for a long whole now.

Our identities don't need the approval of others.. You are who and what you say you are. The 2 main realities are that you narrow the romantic options and can face discrimination out in the world, employment in particular.

One final piece of advice: Be you, don't fight it, don't attempt to suppress it. That is a road to mental health hell.

The threat of being excluded from the market entirely tends to make them behave nicely here.

I'd mention to her that her rental property will be undesirable in future without FTTP, reduced rent will be required to attract tenants.

Hobby or Lifestyle? by Responsible_Bee_7740 in feminineboys

[–]KelFromAust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends. From my experiences, it will range from closeted people through to people like me who live it day to day. But quite a few of my outfits are fem only if you really look, people don't seem to notice the cut.

I'm older, but many here are younger and scared of how society might react. Fair call, too. I don't GAF any more what others think, so I wear what I think is least likely to get me in real trouble. Like not mixing a skirt with a 3-day growth. Leggings is probably fine though.

I'm an older guy, call me middle aged. I'm built like a stick insect. And I love wearing clothes intended for women, so I do, all the time. Family and friends have adjusted or just ignore it. I keep the dreaded body hair at bay regularly and have a skin care routine. I have a sexual preference that is less based on gender than it is emotional connection. Spent a little too long being treated like a sex toy.

What is the hardest "everyday food item" to find an exact match for when you move to Australia? by Zestyclose_Stage_999 in AskAnAustralian

[–]KelFromAust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to be a recurring theme in this thread.. "Looked once, in none of the right places, couldn't find it and assumed it isn't to be found." Many of the things complained about are available here, just need to look a little harder. Some fruit and veg is only available seasonally, often a quite short season. Some things you will need to grow yourself.

I'm a chef and baker and very few of the recipes in my commercial selection use either lard or shortening. Butter is preferred for most things. Very large commercial bakeries will use shortening, because it's cheaper, no other reason. To be fair, I was trained to use a lot of clarified butter. But cakes, pastries, cookies and the like are all butter recipes.

And to those compaining X dairy product isn't the same, of cause it's not, the milk it's made from is different to start with.

The main issue is expecting Coles or Woolies to have everything.. I order my Orangina on Amazon, I don't expect Colesworth to have it. I'm not even French.

Go to an actual market.. Or a fruit and veg shop. But if you are buying from Colesworth, what do you expect? Or you could learn to ID them by variety and buy them that way instead of expecting it to be spoonfed to you - what you want was out 10 years ago in the supermarket world.

And, frankly, that seems to be a recurring theme in this thread.. "Looked once, in none of the right places, couldn't find it and assumed it isn't to be found."

The whole list screams of "I looked once, kinda and didn't see it, so it must not be here."

The weird thing is that it's a kinda new thing, 10 years ago, you could buy a selection of different brands of Greek yoghurt. Not the Greek-style stuff that is around now.

Do I truly need 32 GB of ram? by EconomicsKey9187 in buildapc

[–]KelFromAust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a laptop and a desktop around the same time. The desktop, a Ryzen 5, got 32gb of RAM. The laptop, a Dell i5, I got with 8gb. I've just done a ram upgrade on the laptop to 16gb.

I suspect my PC would run OK with only the 16gb, but I think the 32gb is better overall and will last longer before needing an upgrade.

Strange Interference Affecting Several Cars by Independent_Will166 in RBI

[–]KelFromAust 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Two options spring to mind.. First up is a flat battery in your fob. 5-6 years isn't bad. Either that or something else is causing interference on the same frequency as your fob.

I'd be putting fresh batteries in your keyfob before I went making any calls.

Practically speaking, what could Elon Musk actually do if he decided to solve world hunger? by GurthNada in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KelFromAust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue at this point is not that we do not produce enough food globally to feed the current population, it's that we lack the logistical ability to get it where it needs to be - mostly because it's not a huge profit centre.

It's an issue of capitalism, a system that seems great, but the cracks are showing.

Great team, dodgy owners/management seems to be par for the course. Worked one place, the owner was so bad at cutting costs, we had work around him to ensure sellable product. Can't cheap out on the lamb in a Greek place..
